One more data point:
When docking the laptop while running, the problem doesn not occur, apparently
even after a subsequent suspend and resume cycle.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 365300] Re: Randomly I get double clicks when I do a single click.

2013-06-07 Thread Yael
I have the same issue in Ubuntu 13.04 on a Lenovo W530. I replaced my
mouse 3 times already and each time I replace my mouse, it works fine
for a couple of weeks, and then starts to misbehave and generate
doubleclicks. In Windows, all of them work fine.

I wonder if people in this thread that said their problem got solved
with a new mouse still think the problem was solved after using the new
mouse for several weeks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1188605] [NEW] fglrx (not installed): fglrx kernel module failed to build

2013-06-07 Thread Jan Seidensticker
Public bug reported:

As the support for my GPU (Radeon HD 4870) with certain games requires the
closed-source
drivers, I installed it after downgreading Xserver to a previous version (as
the newest version
does not the driver version in combination with my GPU, just like some other
older models).
I have used this guide:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/124292/what-is-the-correct-way-to-install-ati-catalyst-video-drivers-fglrx/286775#286775

The bug is what I got after I had finished the install drivers step.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1121579] Re: Xorg freeze

2013-06-07 Thread Geoff Clements
In an attempt to try to find a work around I made the following change:
Settings Desktop Effects Advanced Composting type OpenGL Qt graphics
system Native
(it was Render).

I've now been running for nearly a week without seeing any freezes, it
was at least one a day. As this is a KDE setting (I'm using Kubuntu) I
guess it's not much help to the OP, sorry.

I will try that when I reboot the next time (i.e. after the next hard lockup
:)).

Have you tried with Option SwapbuffersWait false?
I have enabled that option now. I’ll update this report as soon as the lockup
occurs the next time, or if it doesn’t occur for a month or so.

With i915.i915_enable_rc6=0 _and_ Option SwapbuffersWait false I have not
had a single lockup since more than two weeks.

Unfortunately, I won’t have access to the box I have been testing this
with for the next 2 months, so any further testing will have to wait.

Presumably you still encountered a hard lockup with just Option
SwapbuffersWait or was a reboot forced in the meantime?

Sorry for not being more explicit about this: I have not tried just using
SwapbuffersWait extensively, a reboot was indeed forced.

You may need to use an older kernel too. You should really be using
Ubuntu 12.04.1 if you have to use fglrx and have an older card.
Downgrading your Xserver is not supported.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1188410] Re: branch fix

2013-06-07 Thread Seth Arnold
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System -
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1092968] Re: lost display configuration and unity by using the kernel 3.5.0-21 10 12.10

2013-06-07 Thread Rajiv
That sounds fine. It might not occur anymore in 12.04 or 13.04. I did
have issues before (and a helpful tip for 13.04 is that you should not
force shut down your computer otherwise Ubuntu will not boot, I learned
that the hard way) with 13.04 though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1188774] [NEW] 13.04 goes into hard lock mode randomly.

2013-06-07 Thread JaSauders
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit.
Lenovo E430 laptop.

My laptop will lock up at random times. When it locks up, there is no
mouse movement, no time change with the clock, just... nothing. The only
option is to hold the power button to force it off and restart. This
happens at any given time, it doesn't matter what I'm doing. There are
times it happens while web browsing. The other night I fell asleep and
woke up 1.5 hours later to my laptop still looking at me. I thought, it
should have suspended by now. Nope, it was hard locked. The time on the
clock confirmed it: 8:18 PM on the Lenovo when it was about 10:00 PM.
When I've experienced it, I've never been pushing the system hard. It's
always been under more light duty tasks. When this has happened I have
not had a 2nd monitor plugged in.

While I don't have a recent syslog (unless ubuntu-bug picked it up when
I filed), I did notice one entry in my syslog that was similar each time
I powered the system back up. It was the only thing that looked somewhat
off. It's this line here:

May 24 21:45:28 JS-UbuE430 signond[2949]:
../../../../src/signond/signondaemon.cpp 360 init Failed to SUID root.
Secure storage will not be available.

For what it's worth, I spoke to another user who said they were having
100% identical issues. I do believe they are on a Dell system, not a
Lenovo system like I am, however our graphics card came up identical
when we both ran lspci:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core
Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)

Thank you for your time.

Just to make sure I'm on the same page, which in particular do you
suggest changing? Currently I have:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash

Should it read:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash i915.i915_enable_rc6=0

???

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015183]

2013-06-07 Thread Jrenyard
I would like to be any help I can with this bug fix. I am able to test
on an 18.5 Winmate M185D as well as a 10 Winmate device (W10ID3S-
PCH1). I am currently running Unity 13.04 and can make any necessary
changes to the system. Please let me know what I can do to test and how
to do it. I feel a bit over my head, but am willing to learn in order to
be helpful.

Thanks for all your work on this. At OLPC we've been testing the branch
but have been a couple of commits behind the tip. Anyway, I think its
still worth contributing the test result: no problems seen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1188795] Re: xorg

2013-06-07 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 124406] Re: Keyboard keys get stuck and repeat

2013-06-07 Thread new4u
Dear developers, I really would like to stress this issue. Only tonight
I had to reboot my machine 3 times due to this issue. It is a MAJOR
impediment in working. The key-stucks happened in gedit, and Gummi
tonight. So it seems not attached to a specific application.

Despite I am not able to develop or program, I see myself as a kind of
evangelist, who converted a lot of people to Ubuntu. But, honestly, it
is a problem for continue recommending it of having basics such as a
keyboard causing problems. I have never seen this on any other
distribution.

So, please, please have a look at this issue, as I guess that many
people might use Asus and Ubuntu 64bit (as it combination seems to
correlate somehow).

Thank you for your time making Ubuntu that great - that also needs to be
said.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1176647] Re: [snb] random hard lockup whilst using Xv

2013-06-07 Thread Mark Pointing
I have also experienced this bug on 2 different machines running 13.04.
The first is an eeepc with an Atom 1.66GHz N455 CPU, and the second is a
macbook pro 8,1 with a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2415M CPU @ 2.30GHz.

The bug is most reproduceable when playing videos, but on rare occasions
(3) it has occured while browsing the web.

It caused me to downgrade to 12.04 on the eeepc.

Same symptoms (video lockup, except cursor, unable to switch to VT)
however in my experience, the soundtrack on video playback kept running.
A hard reset was required to use the system.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1188774] Re: [snb] 13.04 goes into hard lock mode randomly.

2013-06-07 Thread JaSauders
I did that earlier today, update-grub, etc. I booted back up and had no
issues for about an hour. I was here working on my Toshiba laptop and my
Lenovo laptop just now. I was on my Toshiba and went back to my Lenovo,
which had only been idle for about 30 seconds, and it had locked up. I
copied the syslog once I got it fired back up again into this pastebin:

http://paste.ubuntu.com/5743633/

It locked up at 8:38 PM.

Also, in /var/log/kern.log at each crash (host name obfuscated for privacy):
Jun 8 03:26:02 host name kernel: [ 830.834491] mtrr: no MTRR for
e800,100 found

This is reproducible at will (log onto my KDE desktop, open the K menu,
put the focus in the application Search box and hit a key. Konsole
also crashes X. The GUI is completely unusable. The odd part is that
Firefox accepts key strokes in the navigation bar just fine.

Possible that this is not an r128 driver bug?

Please advise what else I can provide.
