[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1173400] Re: Garbled display: kernel 3.8.0-19-generic, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530/4570/545v
I really don't understand why there is no progress at all with this bug. It's critical. My brother just told me that he stopped using Ubuntu after years and installed Windows instead because after upgrading he wasn't able to use his machine (he's got a Dell Studio 1555, too). He isn't that much of an expert so he tried to do a fresh install which didn't work either. He couldn't reach anybody that could help him and he just uses his laptop for surfing the web and listening to music. He just wants it to work, so - since Ubuntu didn't work anymore - he installed Windows and as he says Now everything works just fine. I am not going back. I am sure he is not the only one. That could have been prevented if there had been a warning like Don't upgrade right now. This version of Ubuntu doesn't work with your machine at this time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1173400 Title: Garbled display: kernel 3.8.0-19-generic, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530/4570/545v To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/1173400/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1188774] Re: [snb] 13.04 goes into hard lock mode randomly.
Despite the STA issues with newer kernels, I decided to tough it out for the time being. Unfortunately I can not switch wireless cards (Lenovo BIOS on this unit does a hardware check and will halt if the wifi card was changed), and I also cannot get STA to install on any other kernel besides what comes downstream from Ubuntu. Currently I'm on 3.8.0-25. I am on Ubuntu GNOME 13.04 at this point. I had a lockup this morning. Here's that syslog: http://paste.ubuntu.com/5787379/ You can see in the 8 o'clock hour similar findings to the earlier syslog. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1188774 Title: [snb] 13.04 goes into hard lock mode randomly. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1193435] [NEW] right-click context menus behind window
Public bug reported: About once every-other week, the context menus from Chromium do not appear. This happens from left-clicking a bookmark folder in my toolbar, or right-clicking on a webpage. Nothing is displayed. If I un-maximize the window and right-click near the right edge, the menu is visible in the background. I can also see bookmark menus if they are at the extreme right of the application and hang off into the desktop background. When in this state, a right-click on the desktop also hides behind Chromium. But it overlays Firefox. Testing this is difficult since I can't interact with menus in the normal fashion. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1193489] [NEW] xbiff doesn't beep
Public bug reported: xbiff fails to beep, although xkbbell works fine I am new to both Ubuntu (12.04) and pulseaudio (1:1.1-0ubuntu15.3), but have used RH and SuSE for years. When trying to get the console beep working, I found extensive discussion of * failure to get a hardware beep; * failure to get an X beep; I don't believe either of those is the problem I am having (unless there are 2 kinds of X beeps). I am *not* trying to get a hardware beep (via pcspkr). I *have* already implemented the fix described (among other places) at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/486154 namely to run the commands: pactl upload-sample /usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo/bell.ogg bell.ogg pactl load-module module-x11-bell sample=bell.ogg This works fine, allowing xkbbell (and hence xterm and emacs) to beep properly. But xbiff still fails to beep. I don't know whether this is a bug in xbiff, pulseaudio-module-x11, or possibly elsewhere in pulseaudio, but I have been unable to find further information about the difference between xbiff and xkbbell, let alone a way to make xbiff beep. (Irrelevant aside: I've been using xbiff for some 20 years; failure to get it working properly in Ubuntu is a game- changer for me.) Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you might take include checking cable connections and using software tools to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to New. Thanks and good luck! [This is an automated message.
