[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1072343] Re: Sidewinder X4 Macro Keys not working

2013-06-22 Thread lemonade
This appears to be a regression with update to 13.04. The multimedia
keys were working fine with 12.10.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1161112] Re: Raring regression: SNA fails completely; UXA causes random hangs

2013-06-22 Thread Chris Wilson
My guess is that this is

commit fc1e0702b25e647cb423851fb7228989fec28bd6
Author: Daniel Vetter daniel.vet...@ffwll.ch
Date: Wed May 29 11:25:28 2013 +0100

sna: fixup up possible_clones kms-X impedance mismatch

We need to be a notch more careful with remapping the possible clones
mask from the kernel:
- SDVO and Haswell DDI have multiple connectors mapping to the same encoder.
- The connector list can be reordered compared to the encoder list.
This is used to move eDP/LVDS to the front.

Also add even more debug output.

Signed-off-by: Daniel Vetter daniel.vet...@ffwll.ch

fixed in 2.21.9

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1193686] [NEW] Sticky keys doesn't react to mouse buttons

2013-06-22 Thread Thomas Hansen
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:

1. Open Universal Access and activate Sticky keys under the Typing tab.
2. Open a terminal. Press and release shift, then press A twice. Observe that
the First A gets capitalized, and the second doesn't. In other words the shift
stuck until the first A was pressed, then disabled. That's the expected
behavior.
3. Press and release Alt. Observe that dragging inside the terminal moves the
window as Alt+mouse drag moves windows. Release the mouse button and drag
again...

What does happen:

It still moves the window.

What should happen:
It should drag out a selection in the terminal, just as is normal for dragging
in a terminal without any modifiers.

The first mouse button release should cancel the stickyness of the Alt
key, just as a keyrelease would do.

History:
I've seen the this bug in previous Ubuntu releases, and I'm not the only one as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/415685
attests. I'm sure it started out working correctly when I started using
stickykeys, then having the current faulty behavior, get fixed and then regress
again now. I'm not sure about the exact releases, but I'm absolutely positive
that it worked correctly in 12.04.

I have 2 different laptops that had it working in 12.04 and both have
the current bug in 13.04. Sadly I upgraded both directly from 12.04 to
12.10 to 13.04, so I didn't notice whether the problem exists in 12.10.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1083032] Re: Video driver not working for Savage chipset

2013-06-22 Thread Tormod Volden
** Description changed:

- [Impact]
- For xserver-xorg-video-savage: Display corruption in X on (at least) Thinkpad
T22 laptops, making the system unusable.
+ [Impact]
+ For xserver-xorg-video-savage: Display corruption in X on all Savage-equipped
laptops such as Thinkpad T22, making the system unusable.
For xorg-server: System lockup on boot.

  [Test Case]
Attempt to boot a system with one of the affected Savage cards; the Thinkpad
T22 is at least one such system.

The display will be corrupted beyond usability.

Install xserver-xorg-video-savage and xserver-xorg-core from proposed,
and you should have a usable X session.

- [Regression Potential]
- The X server patch touches only the DRI1 initialisation codepath; this is not
used for the vast majority of systems, so breakage is low-impact. Breakage here
would most likely manifest as an Xserver crash on startup.
+ [Regression Potential]
+ The X server patch touches only the DRI1 initialisation codepath; this is not
used for the vast majority of systems, so breakage is low-impact. Breakage here
would most likely manifest as an Xserver crash on startup. (Most likely any
driver using DRI1 is broken without this patch, but since DRI1 is mostly used
for mesa and our mesa does not support DRI1 any longer, this is not very
visible. However, the savage driver uses DRI1 for 2D acceleration as well.)

The savage patch switches the default acceleration method to EXA (from
- XAA) and adds some fixes to EXA support. Since we don't build XAA
- support into the X server any more, so switching away from it means
- enabling acceleration, which can cause pretty much arbitrary problems,
- but is unlikely to. In any case, problems would be restricted to users
- of xserver-xorg-video-savage.

+
+ *) The build-without-XAA fallback to no acceleration is broken, so EXA
+ is the best way out of this. EXA has been reported to work well, and is
+ now enabled by default upstream (the patches in this report are from
+ upstream). The user can still disable (EXA) acceleration in xorg.conf,
+ which should work out fine when done this way.

  [Original Report]

When installing 12.10 on our Thinkpad T22 laptops the display does not work.
12.04 works fine.
  xserver-xorg-video-s3 is version 1:0.6.5-0ubuntu1
  xserver-xorg-video-savage is version 1:2.3.6-0ubuntu1
I don't know if these are the packages involved but they are the ones that I
suspect may be involved.
This T22 model (and many other thinkpads from that era) use the S3 Savage
IX8 chipsets.

Using the info from this link makes the display work.
  =
  http://www.physics.wustl.edu/~alford/thinkpad/T23_F17.html

  Xorg :1 -configure
  # ignore Configuration Failed message
  cp xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file: uncomment Option DisableTile in the
Section Device that contains the Savage driver options.

This is actually a kernel bug (actually a firmware bug specific to your
machine) that is supposed to be fixed upstream by now (by just disabling the
interface for the firmware backlight driver). I think the fix will be
available starting from 3.10.

You can eliminate this problem for now, by putting this line in your
/etc/rc.local:

echo 0 /proc/sys/kernel/nmi_watchdog

This couldn't be caused by disabling nmi_watchdog; this is totally
unrelated.

My guess is that you've booted the system with acpi_backlight=vendor which
disabled the ACPI backlight interface (/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0), and
enabled the interface for the vendor backlight driver (e.g.,
/sys/class/backlight/dell_backlight) which won't be picked up by X, because
it's not hard-coded to use it. So, you ended up with no backlight interface for
X to use. That's why the hotkeys seem to be not working.

Try booting the kernel without acpi_backlight=vendor, while disabling
nmi_watchdog from /etc/rc.local as before, and let's see what would happen.

 will adding this

 Section Device
 Identifier Intel Graphics
 Driver intel
 Option AccelMethod sna
 Option Backlight intel_backlight
 Identifier Card0
 Driver intel
 BusID PCI:0:2:0
 EndSection

Yes, I think this would help, but I haven't tried it before.
