I have the very same problem.

When I connect the VGA connector, even if no monitor attached to it,
Ubuntu just freezes. Nothing to do, completely hanged. Not even Ctrl
Alt F1 or similar. Just restart works.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1193791] [NEW] crashes when reloading session

2013-06-23 Thread Ian Proudler
Public bug reported:

Whilst creating a video DVD using Bombono-DVD I saved the session to a
.bmd 'project' file using Project - Save. I did not complete the
session and quit Bombono-DVD but did not reboot the computer. On
restarting Bombono-DVD I opened the saved project file using Project -
Open. Instead of reloading the previous session Bombono-DVD crashed.

I tried the same procedure with the 'Save as ' command and got the same
result.

I tried the rebooting and loading both the 'same' and 'save as' file and
got the same result.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1155501] Re: system hangs when switching between TTY and X (12.10)

2013-06-23 Thread Igor Tarasov
Similar to bug #1069694.

I have found out that the bug is somehow related to vgaswitcheroo. Here
is a way to reproduce it (installing lm-sensors is welcome):

1. Let's say you have both integrated and discrete. Then, `cat
/sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch` should give you something like
{{{0:DIS: :Pwr::01:00.0
1:IGD:+:Pwr::00:02.0}}}

2. If you `pm-suspend` now and resume, and then repeat step 1, you
should see the same results.

3. If you now try to turn ON the discrete card it should work well,
since it is already on and vgaswitcheroo is aware of this.

4. Now, turn discrete card off: `echo OFF
/sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch`. If you read the status, it shoul render
{{{0:DIS: :Off::01:00.0
1:IGD:+:Pwr::00:02.0}}}

5. If you `pm-suspend` now and resume, you might get frozen screen.

6. If not, you can check vgaswitcheroo status, you'll see that discrete card is
switched off:
{{{0:DIS: :Off::01:00.0
1:IGD:+:Pwr::00:02.0}}}

However, if you do `sensors` you'll see that discrete card reports it's
temperature - that is, it is on.

7. Now, if you try to turn it on by `echo ON
/sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch` you'll probably get freeze.

And since we know all this, we can create a workaround. Just make our discrete
card turn on before suspend, and turn off in a few seconds after resume. In
order to achieve this, just create file `/etc/pm/sleep.d/77_amd_toggle` with
the following content:
{{{#!/bin/bash
# Script to disable and enable the discrete graphics card before suspend and
after resume

case ${1} in
suspend)
  # We turn it on before resume to prevent bugs
  echo ON  /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
  ;;

resume)
  # Your GFX would freeze if you turn off discrete card immediately, that's why
this delay:
  sleep 3
  # We turn it off after resume to save energy
  echo OFF  /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
  ;;
esac}}}

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 961124] Re: Choppy video playback

2013-06-23 Thread madbiologist
It's not going to help with the older ATI Radeon Xpress 200M, but video
decoding and playback on your ATI Radeon HD 6450 will benefit from the UVD
support in the imminent (due in approximately one week from now) 3.10 kernel.
This will be available at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
You will also need updated versions of libdrm, mesa and
xserver-xorg-video-radeon, all of which can be found in the xorg-edgers PPA at
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa

All of the above package versions are expected to find their way into
the upcoming Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander which is currently
scheduled for release on October 17th, 2013, as per
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SaucySalamander/ReleaseSchedule

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 896922] Re: Lenovo L520 - psmouse.c: touchpad at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost sync and stops working for seconds

2013-06-23 Thread Mathias Dietrich
@jakub-o: It seems that there was an regression in kernel 3.9 which
introduced this issue for certain users. Which kernel do you use at the
moment ?

Do you get a similar dmesg output ?

In kernel 3.10 a patch was applied which brings some improvement in this
situation according to a number of testers and myself. Maybe it brings
relief to you. If you want and have the knowledge you can test it
yourself [1].

Also the Chromium guys proposed a patch similar patch [2] which could
bring some improvement too. If you want you can build your own kernel
using the patch [3]. For me it brought no improvement, but I would be
good to get more test data for it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1193795] Re: Driver for Geforce gt 650m is detected

2013-06-23 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
The only thing I personally can suggest is making sure you're using the latest
driver (319.23).
Since you now have this fixed and Optimus support is a well-known pain in the
rear, I'd suggest marking this report 'Invalid' (unless you want to make it a
report about pixel corruption, though I don't know what Ubuntu could do about
that since it's closed source).

commit  780a6ec640a3fed671fc2c40e4dd30c03eca3ac3

ACPI / video: ignore BIOS initial backlight value for HP Pavilion g6

This patch addresses kernel bug 56661. BIOS reports an incorrect
backlight value, causing the driver to switch off the backlight
completely during startup. This patch ignores the incorrect value from
BIOS.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1193873] [NEW] GPU hang on mesa blorp operation

2013-06-23 Thread Martin D. Weinberg
Public bug reported:

This began happening with 13.04 upgrade. I tried xorg-edgers repository
but this made matters worse. I reported the GPU hang to the kernel
folks upstream. Based on the i915_error_text, they report that my hangs
are due to mesa blorp operations.

The bug causes a GPU hang which requires the windowing system to be
restarted.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1193873] Re: GPU hang on mesa blorp operation

2013-06-23 Thread Martin D. Weinberg
i915_error_state attached.

Additional note, the default 13.04 kernel causes so many GPU hangs, it
is unusable (or at least, to frustrating to use). 3.9.6 and 3.10.rc6
are much better.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1180881] Re: Touchscreen only works after suspend/resume on Lenovo ideapad P400 Touch

2013-06-23 Thread Brian Bradley
Doesn't seem to have anything to do with KVM. After turning on
virtualization in BIOS to get kvm working the problem persists. Also
updated to the latest kernel 3.9.7 and the problem persists. I don't
consistently get functionality after suspending, and sometimes the
touchscreen works immediately. Seems completely random.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1191334] Re: Xorg freeze

2013-06-23 Thread papukaija
Thank you for your reply. Ubuntu does not really have any viruses or
spyware so the probability that someone has cracked your system is very.
I tried googling the specifications of your laptop and it looks like
that your computer does not have an internal bluetooth device.
Therefore, it is much more probable that the system simply does not
detect your hardware correctly. I'm linking the previous Xorg report to
this report. Thanks.

** Description changed:

- This time i didn't use the wireless mouse
+ A wrong hardware detection seems to crash Xorg. This report is generated
+ without a wireless mouse, which was connected to the laptop in the
+ duplicate bug 1190987 but the mouse didn't make a difference to the
+ system's stability. Both the xorg.log and the attachment refer to a
+ Microsoft Microsoft® Nano Transceiver but the laptop is not connected
+ a a wireless keyboard.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1190987] Re: Microsoft Wireless Mouse crashes Xorg

2013-06-23 Thread papukaija
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1191334 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1191334

I'm marking this bug as a duplicating of bug 1191334 as the mouse does
not seem to cause the crash. That bug report has the logs without the
mouse being used.

For anyone reading this bug report: The answer to the question from the
comment above and some further troubleshooting is in the bug 1191334.
Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1192908] Re: Mir/Mesa packaging have a dependency cycle so neither can build

2013-06-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Actually I will leave this open for Mesa. A more elegant solution may be
possible in Mesa. For example: Make libEGL dynamically load its backend
at runtime rather than linking to all backends (X11/Mir/Wayland/...) at
build time.
