[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1042492] Re: Open source radeon driver causes laptop to heat up / run fan non-stop
Better power management for AMD/ATI Radeon R600 and newer hardware is finally available in the upstream 3.11 linux kernel. The first release candidate (3.11-rc1) of the 3.11 kernel is available at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ and instructions on how to install and uninstall it are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds To use this power management for the AMD/ATI Radeon you will need to select it at boot by adding radeon.dpm=1 to your GRUB kernel boot options as described at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Troubleshooting#Editing_the_GRUB_2_Menu_During_Boot See the blog post at http://www.botchco.com/agd5f/?p=57 for further information. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1191334] Re: 045e:0745 A wrong hardware detection seems to crash Xorg
Hi Mr Cristopher .M. Penalver I did update yesterday ,my BIOS (1.90) as you have told me to do , but i faced later at night problems again with the screen (was getting darker and i was not able to do anything on my computer even alt+f2 was not stable on the screen ,was coming out and disappearing right away before do anything on it,and when ,after a lot of pressing alt+f2 came out and stable ,during the collecting informations got even this window dark and stop collecting any information) I had to turn off the electricity. Today in the morning the computer was not connected to ubuntu and i had to turn off the electricity twice and start it again until i got connected. So i decided to open the terminal as you have told me and put the command sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date as you had told me to do in case that i face again after the BIOS (1.90) updated. I did so and i was ask in the terminal to put my ubuntu password !! I did PUT it ,i press enter after but i do not have anything in my home folder to attach on this ANSWER which i send you right now ,as it had happenned with the other command i had put in the terminal ,lsusb -v lsusb-v.log , i think 2 days ago. Is it ok that i gave my password to the terminal?? Is it normal that i have nothing in my home folder after that , so i can attach it to you ,as i did last time?? What is really happens in my laptop by these people?? What are proposing me to do?? Please i need your help even i know that i do have overtired you about my case. I WAS LOOKING ONE MORE TIME TO SEE IF ANYTHING HAS BEEN IN MY FOLDERS OUT OF THIS TERMINAL COMMAND AND I FOUND IN MY DOWNLOADS THE /home/ubuntu/Downloads/FTS_FLASHBIOSUPDATEMSIMS6178MVER19032301_19_23206.EXE but i cannot attach it says this kind of file so i got a screen photo of it and i attach it to you!!! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1197102] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in raise()
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1188123 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1188123 With recent updates i think the gpu doesn't hang anymore. checked the i915_error_state, no error state collected But however when the laptop is idle and screens blanks i still can't get my screen back. I can see my desktop for a fraction of a second when i swith VT after that i only get a black screen and my mouse pointer (which i can move). I have fiddled with my setup of my custom xrandr script but nothing helps. What i did is in lightdm.conf i use display-setup-script=/usr/share/test.sh and session-setup-script=/usr/share/test.sh and my test.sh contains the following: #!/bin/sh export DISPLAY=:0 xrandr --output LVDS1 --mode 1280x800 --scale 1.5x1.5 xrandr --output LVDS1 --mode 1280x800 --scale 1.5x1.5 --panning 1920x1200 --pos 0x0 --rotate normal --output TV1 --off --output VGA1 --off i have to issue the xrandr twice. The first time it scales the screen but there is right and under a black border. Also i need to add the panning otherwise i can't get with the pointer to the right bottom off the screen (even after issuing the same command without the panning i can't get there.) its get stuck in the corner in the corner of the border of the first scale action. i use the script to get a higher resolution of my screen than it actually is. normaly it is 1280x800 but i find that the icons etc are to large. if i kill compiz i get my screen back also with setsid unity i get my screen back. however some things are missing like the icons in the left corner. But maybe thats normal. If i restart lightdm i get my session back like normal. Now this always works as opposed to when i first reported the bug. Probably due to the gpu hang that is resolved. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1197102 Title: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in raise() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1197102/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 957298] Re: Mouse is very slow after starting a session on Precise
Mouse responsiveness looks OK so far, but there seems to be a regression concerning WiFi/Bluetooth. When the system comes up, both are disabled and cannot be enabled using the hardware switch (touch button above the keyboard on the HP 6930p). WiFi is reported disabled by hardware switch in Gnome Panel. I can enable Bluetooth from Gnome Panel and after that WiFi (also in Gnome Panel), and the LED will go from orange to blue. This started after I upgraded to the 3.10 kernel. Really a secondary theater of war and I can't rule out that it might be because the kernel was actually built for a later Ubuntu release, but I'd like that to be sorted out before I upgrade my kernel. I will keep testing until next weekend and then post final results on the mouse issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/957298 Title: Mouse is very slow after starting a session on Precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/957298/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

The command was not meant to create any files to your home folder, instead the output should appear in the terminal after you press the Enter key. Could you please copy and paste the output from the terminal as a comment to this report?
