[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1205902] [NEW] nouveau drivers cause frequent lockups - "GPU Lockup"

2013-07-28 Thread Brian A
Public bug reported:

This is a brand-new machine with a new NVIDIA GT 630 card in it. The
system randomly locks up with 'GPU Lockup' displayed in dmesg.log. Keys
to kill the x-server do not work. Switching to a virtual terminal
(ALT+F1) does not work. System does not respond. Can SSH into the
machine, but even attempting to restart the X-server as root (or even
kill it) does no good. Only option is to force a reboot or hard reset.
This happens so frequently that this machine is nearly unusable.
Sometimes it will happen after 10 minutes, sometimes after an hour.

jockey-text does not show any restricted drivers available for this
system. I did try installing the NVIDIA drivers from apt-get, but I get
a segfault in Xorg with them. So I've reverted back to the nouveau
drivers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1205633] Re: Xorg stalls out the whole system when surfing with firefox

2013-07-28 Thread Dave Gilbert
hmm, a bit tricky to figure out from that.
Can you login from another machine over a network while it does that?
If so then it's worth seeing if the remote shell hangs while the display is
hung,
and use something like top to see what's happening.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1191563] Re: xserver-xorg-lts-raring cannot be installed due to unresolvable dependencies

2013-07-28 Thread Santiago.Batista
Thanks for yor quick comment. After playing a bit with apt-get I could
get a successful upgrade of the xserver too. Even though there is a
workaround, which simply consists on adding specific packages to the
'apt-get install' command, I don't know if this is something that should
be fixed in general... Again, thanks!

sudo apt-get install -V libglapi-mesa-lts-raring libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-
raring xserver-xorg-lts-raring xserver-xorg-input-all-lts-raring
xserver-xorg-video-all-lts-raring libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-raring x11
-xserver-utils-lts-raring libglapi-mesa-lts-raring:i386 libgl1-mesa-dri-
lts-raring:i386 libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-raring:i386

Make sure to carefully check the suggested changes before proceeding to
ensure that no essential packages are removed!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1205633] Re: Xorg stalls out the whole system when surfing with firefox

2013-07-28 Thread Mirko Gustony
Hi Dave,

one possible way to trigger this behaviour is to visit the web page

http://urfin.soup.io/post/328152007/Hans-Peter-Uhl-Fordert-zu-jeder-
Gelegenheit

with Firefox 22.0. I guess something on this webpage makes Firefox
trigger the problem.

Opening only the main image on that page

http://0.asset.soup.io/asset/4713/1040_f146_500.png

with Firefox does not cause any problems.

Also I found out that visiting

http://urfin.soup.io/post/328152007/Hans-Peter-Uhl-Fordert-zu-jeder-
Gelegenheit

with 28.0.1500.71 Ubuntu 13.04 (28.0.1500.71-0ubuntu1.13.04.1) shows the
same behaviour plus Chromium after some time shows a "He's dead Jim"
page. WTF?!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1205633] Re: Xorg stalls out the whole system when surfing with firefox

2013-07-28 Thread Mirko Gustony
Hi Dave,

I've just tested. Before I started Firefox Xorg.0.log's last line was "[
188.082]". After I experienced the stall the last line was still "[
188.082]". So nothing had been added to it. In today's log file there's
also no trace of those errors you've spotted. So they could be
unrelated.
