normal.

Anyhow, this bug report was about making wide resolutions work on Geode-

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 199486]

2013-08-01 Thread Jeremy Huddleston
(In reply to comment #10)
Hrm. What about the comments from Loic?

I don't think our comments conflict. Loic was concerned about adding
dependencies, and I was suggesting making them soft rather than hard
dependencies.

The only real concern that I see is Michael's:

Typically xinit is not run as a root, so the user does not have enough
permissions to create a session with parameters.
I question weather or not we should try to move this call into X? X is setuid
 root.

I admit that I did not read that comment the first time through as it
was collapsed in my view of the bug. On darwin, we trigger a
LaunchDaemon in startx to do some privileged actions for xinit (like
creating /tmp/.X11-unix). How is this currently handled on other OSs?
Still as an init script?

configure.ac needs a bit more work. For example, if I pass --with-consolekit
and I don't actually have it, configure should error out, but it just
 silently
continues without consolekit. Other than that, it looks good. Mind updating
the patch? Feel free to email it to xorg-devel for review, or attach here
 and
I'll review it again. Bonus points if you use 'git format-patch' with a
 commit
message that I can use rather than just 'git diff'

At least on Debian, yes, /tmp/.X11-unix is created on boot by an init
script.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1207378] [NEW] Screen intermittently goes black

2013-08-01 Thread Joshua Orvis
Public bug reported:

This is a completely new build of 13.04 and after package updates the
nouveau driver caused the screen to be a checkerboard of white and black
squares after each reboot. Instead I installed the nvidia-current
drivers and Xorg displayed great, but now the screen often just goes
black while working.

This is happening when I had openSUSE installed as well as my current
Ubuntu 13.04. This laptop is 3 years old and it has worked wonderfully
until now. It's a Dell Precision M6500 and at first I thought it was a
hardware issue, and Dell has replaced the motherboard, daughterboard,
video card and hard drive, but the same issue is happening.

It has taken at least 10 reboots just to get far enough to file this
bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1098334]

2013-08-01 Thread aidar
It has been a long long time I am following this bug.

So, I built the 3.10.3 plain vanilla kernel, which went stable as of
today (Friday, July 26, 2013) and I can say that my crappy GM45 chip
works fine with the dreaded test.odg resizing test. Seems like things
are improving.

and if it is of any interest here are the versions of relevant sw stack:

x11-libs/libdrm-2.4.45
media-libs/mesa-9.1.2-r1
x11-base/xorg-server-1.13.4
x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.21.12 (sna is the Accel)

thanks for continous work on devices that were introduced in 2008.

ps: now, only if iwlwifi would get sorted out...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1199447] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in raise()

2013-08-01 Thread Christopher Barton
Hi

I got this bug on Xubuntu 13.04 and seems to be since doing a recent
update (Xubuntu base - kernel, I guess).

In my case however, having done the update and then restarting my pc
(as instructed), I was completely unable to arrive at the login screen.
My only option was to press the power button and try again but login
fails repeatedly and never succeeds. All I see is a black screen with a
blinking text cursor in the top left corner. Pressing ctrl+alt+f2 lets
me login and then by running sudo restart lightdm I get to the proper
login screen. I logged into xfce, and it was at this point that the
crash notification appeared with the same title as this bug.

The black screen and blinking cursor problem has plagued my system since
upgrading to 13.04. With 12.10, I never had such problems. Whilst it was
irritating, it happened randomly and I could more or less live with it.

Now though, it is EVERY TIME!

My only route into my system is doing the above, or, selecting the
previous kernel version in GRUB at bootup via advanced options.

Prior to working out a method to log in, the problem effectively
rendered my system unusable...and was rather alarming at first. I
really, really, need things to be more stable than this. I had hoped, in
fact, that the recent update would have fixed my original problem (since
upgrade to raring 13.04). I did not, however, expect it to make things
even worse!

If I can be of any assistance to help crush this flaming bug then please
let me know.

Also, seeing as my description seems somewhat different to the OP, then
perhaps my problem relates to something else. If so, kindly point me in
the right direction...

I hope the above helps.

Thanks
Christopher

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068404] Re: Low graphics mode in muxless hybrid ATI/Intel GPU systems after fglrx upgrade

2013-08-01 Thread Marco Vuano
I would like to point out that, since the bug was originally found on
Ubuntu Desktop 12.10 64 bit edition, I am still using this version of
Ubuntu to verify if it has been solved, so my report is about the state
of the bugs on Ubuntu Desktop 12.10. Users of Ubuntu 13.04 may still
find that some of the bugs similar to the ones I previously described
are still not solved..l

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1120245] Re: A program is still running: Unknown Not responding.

2013-08-01 Thread Alan Pater
Try to identify which application is still running through the process
of elimination.

Have you installed any extra applications, or are you using the ones
which came installed?

Does it happen all the time, or only after running a certain
application?

Do you close all applications before shutting down, or leave them
running and let the system shut them down?

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068404] Re: Low graphics mode in muxless hybrid ATI/Intel GPU systems after fglrx upgrade

2013-08-01 Thread Jonas Schwabe
I installed the new beta of fglrx without installing a non default intel
driver on 13.04 and it works, there are some other bugs in this driver
thought. On high performance mode can't use dual head for example but the
initial bug is fixed.
