2013-08-15 Thread Simon K
The problem is still the same (as described in post #1 ) with the latest
upstream release-candidate of kernel 3.11 (r5).

octavian@octavian-tm2:~$ uname -r
3.11.0-031100rc5-generic

however there was no package linux-image-extra* or pae (like listed
in the wiki).

PS: I've tested some more, seems like the periode, my PC hangs is a bit random
but on average it's still the same amount of time as before doing BIOS and
kernel-mainline upgrades.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1174042] Re: System crashes with open-source radeon driver

2013-08-15 Thread krytek32
Same problem for me:

I have ubuntu 13.04 and kde 4.11.
I removed my fglrx drivers, so I'm using open mesa drivers.
After reboot my maximum display resolution was 1280x1024, but my real maximum
(that I correctly had with fglrx drivers) is 1920x1080.

I tried to do something from this wiki:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/Resolution to section Setting
resolution changes in xorg.conf -- resolution lower than expected but
it didn't solve my problem, infact I tried to edit xorg.conf with the
lines in the attached file but after reboot it says that my xorg.conf is
not correctly configured and I had to remove xorg.conf and use the old
one I had backed up before.

Besides I have plasma-desktop crash at startup (only without fglrx
drivers, that is with open drivers).

I'll give you some information:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1201403] Re: Unity performance issue on intel gpu

2013-08-15 Thread Chris Wilson
I haven't observed anything like this either.

When the system/unity starts to lag, can you use perf to profile to see
where the CPU is going? And also checking xrestop and
/sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_gem_objects would be useful to check video
memory consumption.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1201403] Re: Unity performance issue on intel gpu

2013-08-15 Thread manfreed
Hi!

Thanks for your answer. I'm not familiar with perf, could you give me a
few pointers how and when to use it?

I'been monitoring the cpu usage of the compiz and x processes during the
day (my coputer was running for days now). Compiz used 8-10%, X used
usually around 40, but sometimes it went up to 80%.

I killed the compiz process (it restarted), after that compiz and x
processes are hardly using any cpu.

here is i915_gem_objects before the compiz-killing:

3614 objects, 1480253440 bytes

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1201403] Re: Unity performance issue on intel gpu

2013-08-15 Thread Chris Wilson
Compiz is not expected to be using that memory... And neither should
chrome. I think you have a resource leak emanating from mesa (or at
least mesa on behalf of the client).

The easiest way to use perf (after installing it with apt-get install
linux-tools) is sudo perf top.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1212736] [NEW] Touch screen: Right click should be emulated by long press, like under Android

2013-08-15 Thread Till Kamppeter
Public bug reported:

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Twist convertible ultrabook (Intel Core i7).
The tablet mode (touchscreen-only operation, keyboard folded away) get
continuously working better.

One important missing feature is an easy-to-do right click. The right-
click emulation button in Onboard is a rather awkward solution, as
Onboard only shows up when selecting a text input field.

I suggest to emulate the right-click by a long press on the screen. It
is done in Android this way, too, and works very well for me.

Note that the long-press right-click functionality in Universal Access
in the Control Center only works with a mouse and not with the touch
screen (another bug).

I am using Saucy 64-bit and the standard Unity desktop.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1062077] Re: [HP TouchSmart tm2-2010eg] Linux hangs with: [drm:atom_op_jump] *ERROR* atombios stuck in loop for more than 5secs aborting

2013-08-15 Thread Simon K
Just a quick report:

I downloaded Ubuntu 12.04.2. I couldn't reproduce my bug on this system,
everything looks fine.
(However I installed it on an USB-Stick, not my actual hard drive but this
shouldn't make any difference, I hope)

However I used Kernel 3.5.0-23.
But this bug was reported under Ubuntu 12.10, Kernel Linux 3.5.0-17-generic
x86_64

It seems like something else is causing this bug? Since the bug isn't there on
a higher Version.
I'll now try Ubuntu 12.10 and look if the bug is reproduce able at the bare
installation (without updates).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1199959] Re: Xorg freeze

2013-08-15 Thread Benedict Holland
My initial prognosis of not working on UEFI is incorrect. I think it is
the upgrade to 13.10 or 13.04. My laptop sometimes has this same problem
and UEFI is not enabled on it. This is a very bad intermittent bug. My
computer cannot start up. I honestly do not understand why it has been
about a month and the bug has not even been given any priority. At one
point I had to reboot 20 times, rebooted into safe mode, rebooted again,
and it magically worked. Not being able to intermittently use a computer
seems to be about as serious a bug as you can get without having
something eat your hard drives or corrupt your file system. If you need
help fixing this bug, please let me know.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1212935] [NEW] Sync libxi 2:1.7.2-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2013-08-15 Thread Robert Hooker
Public bug reported:

Please sync libxi 2:1.7.2-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  [ Maarten Lankhorst ]
  * Merge from debian-unstable.
  * Add a breaks to xorg-server 1.13 and old unity.
  * SECURITY UPDATE: denial of service and possible code execution via
incorrect memory size calculations
- debian/patches/CVE-2013-1984.patch: fix multiple integer overflows.
- CVE-2013-1984
  * SECURITY UPDATE: denial of service and possible code execution via
incorrect memory size calculations from signedness issues
- debian/patches/CVE-2013-1995.patch: fix signedness issues in
  src/XListDev.c.
- CVE-2013-1995
  * SECURITY UPDATE: denial of service and possible code execution via
incorrect length and bounds checking
- debian/patches/CVE-2013-1998.patch: properly check lengths and
  indexes in src/XGetBMap.c, src/XIPassiveGrab.c, src/XQueryDv.c.
- CVE-2013-1998
  * revert-xi2.3.diff: Change .pc file to set version back to 1.6.1, to avoid
tricking module checks of reverse dependencies into thinking that the
installed libxi supports pointer barrier events. Fixes mutter FTBFS.
  * revert support for the new pointer barrier events for now, until
the rest of the stack is ready.
  * Sync from unreleased debian git.
- new upstream release
  * New upstream release.
  * control: Bump policy to 3.9.4, no changes.
  * add-missing-xi_rawtouch.diff: Upstream commit to add XI_RawTouch in
XInputCopyCookie.
  * control: Bump x11proto-input-dev build-dep to 2.2.99.1.
  * libxi6.symbols: Added new symbols.

The SECURITY UPDATES are all upstream in the newer version, the previous
updates were fixes because of the pointer barriers api changes that are no
longer needed. All of the rest of the changes are in debian now.

Changelog entries since current saucy version 2:1.7.1.901-1ubuntu1:

libxi (2:1.7.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.

Marking this invalid, * Add a breaks to xorg-server 1.13 and old
unity. is still needed until 14.04.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1212065] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in sna_crtc_set_mode_major()

2013-08-15 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
This should have been fixed in the last couple of xserver-xorg-video-
intel uploads. I'm not sure why the bug closing magic hasn't kicked in.
