[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1173649] Re: incorrect color depth - intel graphics card

2013-08-19 Thread giox069
Same problem here on HP Compaq dx2000 MT with Intel 82865G video card: the
installation of xubuntu 13.04 defaults to 15bpp. The xubuntu desktop is better
at 32bpp, and also remmina remote destkop application has problems with 15bpp.
Flash player videos are completely unwatchable (totally wrong colors).
So I applied Craig's patch on post #51 to have 32bpp. The destkop looks nicer
and both flash player and remmina renders remote colors correctly. I still have
problems with playing my videos with other media players (parole and minitube):
colors are oversaturated. But this is not related to this bug.

I installed libx11-6 from precise-proposed but can't verify the included
bugfix. Apart from that, is there any other relevant package that has to
be updated? I have the following (latest) versions installed:

 gnome-settings-daemon: 3.4.2-0ubuntu0.6.2
 libx11-6: 2:1.4.99.1-0ubuntu2.2
 udev: 175-0ubuntu9.4
 xkb-data: 2.5-1ubuntu1.3

Of course the affected Precise system is up to date as of today.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1213236] Re: Problems with Touchpad and Keybord on some bootups

2013-08-19 Thread flusi100
The files attached at the initial post were generated when the error
occured. I now attach the last lines from the Xorg.0.log after a login,
where the error is present. The entries starting with 39.538 were logged
after toggling the console from #1 and back to #7. In the last line a
touchpad ist found...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1214148] [NEW] Intel video: Display backlight cannot be changed on Toshiba Portege Z935

2013-08-19 Thread JenniferHodgdon
Public bug reported:

On my Toshiba Portege Z935-ST4N03 laptop, the display hotkeys and
display brightness settings do not work at all.

Symptoms:
1. When I use Fn F6 or Fn F7, I get a pop-up window that shows a light bulb and
a slider, and the slider goes obediently up and down as I press F6/7. However,
the brightness of the screen does not change as the slider indicator changes.
2. If I go into the Power Manager and set the display brightness to dim after a
few seconds has passed, it doesn't dim.

So it seems to me that the hotkeys are being recognized as a method to
change the display brightness, but that the operating system is unable
to change the hardware's actual screen brightness... I don't think it's
a hotkey problem per se.

I read through https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging/Backlight and I
think I have the problem defined as:

Backlight control does not work, but there are entries in
/sys/class/backlight.

Although I do not seem to have the Brightness applet on my system (I am
running XFCE, so maybe that is why), but the Power Manager's brightness
control is definitely not working.

This is a recent install of Ubuntu, on a newly purchased laptop, so I
have no idea whether it was working in previous versions of Ubuntu,
kernels, etc. Sorry.

I used the ubuntu-bug utility to report this bug, so I am not sure
what else you need... but I am starting by attaching the Xorg log, and
will attach the lspci output and other information shortly. I am also
going to follow the rest of the debugging steps on the Backlight
debugging page and attach the output as separate comments on this
report.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1214148] Re: Intel video: Display backlight cannot be changed on Toshiba Portege Z935

2013-08-19 Thread JenniferHodgdon
I am now following the steps on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging/Backlight

The first step was to reboot with default Linux parameters. I had been
using acpi-backlight=vendor. When I took that out and rebooted, the
symptoms changed: the hotkeys no longer make the slider on the pop-up
brightness widget go up and down. And they still also don't change the
screen brightness.

Anyway, I'll be attaching the files requested on that page for
debugging.

1. ls /sys/class/backlight  backlight

7. sudo fwts method  fwts_method

Again, the fwts_method file has pretty much anything in it. You might
want to update the instructions so that they say to clear out the
results.log file and attach this instead of redirecting output to
fwts/fwts_method for these two commands.

2013-08-19 Thread JenniferHodgdon
14. As root, I tried

echo 8  /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness

Voila! Finally it is doing something. This made the screen almost too
dim to see.

echo 1000  /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness

This made the display usable again.

The next step involves rebooting again... I'll be back shortly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1214148] Re: Intel video: Display backlight cannot be changed on Toshiba Portege Z935

2013-08-19 Thread JenniferHodgdon
I have just rebooted with kernel parameter
video.use_bios_initial_backlight=0 and it does not behave differently
from the default boot parameters.

So... I think I've finished following all of the steps in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging/Backlight

- I don't have a Thinkpad.
- I checked and I am not using the thinkpad_acpi kernel module.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to debug.

In particular, I would like to test a brightness applet as mentioned on
that page but I cannot located it. Any idea what package it would be in
or where I would find it?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1211207] Re: Keyboard and Mouse stop working after undefined time

2013-08-19 Thread Quinn Balazs
Confirmed that something is seriously wrong here. Are you using any sort
of USB hub, or only the onboard USB ports? But for all intents and
purposes it seems to be an X problem, where evdev isn't loaded along
with the mouse and keyboard, leading to the them being ignored because
an input device was not specified. The next thing to look at would be
why it's doing this after a period of time. I am working on that and
will get back to you once I've figured out what particularly is to fault
with the devices are refreshing themselves and having to be reloaded.

I'm not using any USB hubs except for those built into the machine.

Hope to hear back from you soon with some positive feedback.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1198942] Re: Hybrid Graphics and general enablement for fglrx and nvidia in Precise for 12.04.3

2013-08-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package jockey - 0.9.7-0ubuntu7.10

---
jockey (0.9.7-0ubuntu7.10) precise-proposed; urgency=low

  * data/handlers/fglrx.py:
- Show the driver as enabled when pxpress is in use.
  Thanks to Doro Wu for the patch (LP: #1196848).
- Add handlers for -experimental-{12|13}.
- Only -experimental-13 supports hybrid graphics.
  * data/handlers/nvidia.py:
- Add handlers for 319/-updates 304/-updates.
- Only 319/-updates support hybrid graphics.
- Make sure to remove the correct nvidia-settings
  flavour.
  * data/handlers/{fglrx|nvidia}.py:
- Add support for Hybrid Graphics (LP: #1198942):
  + Driver handlers now need to state that they support
hybrid graphics and subclass either the
_NvidiaDriverHybridBase class or the FglrxDriverHybrid
class.
  + Drivers which don't claim to support hybrid graphics
will not show up on hybrid systems.
  + If the nvidia-prime or the fglrx-pxpress packages are
not available, the drivers won't be available on
hybrid systems. This avoids breaking systems which
require further configuration which only these two
packages provide.
  + Jockey doesn't touch the xorg.conf when dealing with
hybrid graphics (as either nvidia-prime or
fglrx-pxpress will take care of it).
  + Hybrid Graphics is only supported on systems which
use Raring's backported X and kernel.
  * jockey/xorg_driver.py:
- Add supports_hybrid_graphics class attribute.
- Add has_hybrid_graphics class attribute.
- Add better support for faking devices and packages.
- Ignore transitional packages.
  * jockey/oslib.py:
- Add package_transitional() method.
- Add package_available() method.
- Make current_xorg_video_abi take into account
  backported packages.
- Catch additional arguments in package_installed().
  This gives us some flexibility when using fake
  devices for testing.
- Add some checks for raring's backported xserver.
  * tests/hybridgraphics.py:
- Add coverage for hybrid graphics.
  * tests/oslib.py:
- Deal with the multiple video abis that drivers may
  support.
- Make sure that the kernel headers are available before
  failing.
  * tests/sandbox.py:
- Report a more compliant fake X ABI.
- Update package_installed() to match the one in oslib.py.

Forwarding this bug from Ubuntu reporter Alex Mayorga Adame:
http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/713781

[Problem]
Starting with 2.6.38-1, user reports X on -nouveau becomes corrupt (see
attached screenshot). This is a regression since 2.6.37-12

We had the reporter disable vesafb in case it was conflicting, but issue
persisted.

Our guess is it looks like nouveau is failing to find any acceptable
modes.

[Original Description]
Latest kernel update rendered X unusable.

I tried both 2.6.38-2 and 2.6.38-1 kernels but it didn't help. It still
shows the progressive line of pixels. gdm and the desktop actually load
as I can hear the Ubuntu tune if I type my password and hit enter but
the video is garbled and only a line of pixels towards the top of the
screen can be seen.

2.6.37-12 works fine with no parameters and even some degree of video
acceleration.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015183]

2013-08-19 Thread Till Kamppeter

that with the current X from the x-staging PPA and the current Onboard
from the onboard PPA the problem is solved.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015183]

2013-08-19 Thread Peter Hutterer
Thanks for testing. I'm going to close this one as fixed since we
definitely fixed quite a few bugs in this patch set. If there's
something left please file a new bug so we can narrow down the new (old?
:) issues.
