Till Kamppeter, the next step would be to bisect the kernel from 3.8.0-7
to 3.8.0-19 in order to identify the offending regression commit. Could
you please do this following

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1220629] [NEW] xmir_screen_for_each_damaged_window iterates through all outputs on every frame (including unused ones)

2013-09-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:

xmir_screen_for_each_damaged_window iterates through all outputs
(including unused ones), on every frame.

I thought it was a bit odd when debugging
xmir_screen_for_each_damaged_window that it iterated through 6-8
different xmir_window's. I only have two outputs plugged in. The number
actually grew over time (with display config changes?).

I think we should avoid iterating (or even creating) unused
xmir_windows. In the very least it's inefficient to process all the
damage reports more times than necessary.

Furthermore, I suspect the unused xmir_windows are accumulating damage
that never gets emptied, which is probably bad.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1220658] [NEW] DP monitor turns off now and then

2013-09-04 Thread e8johan
Public bug reported:

I run a MBP8.1 with Intel graphics and a Dell monitor attached via
DisplayPort. Occassionally (several times a day) the external monitor
goes blank, but the internal monitor shows that X keeps the resolution
from the big screen. Unplugging and reattaching the external monitor
restores the signal.

dmsg tells me this:

manually like this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1220645] Re: Webcam view shows green screen

2013-09-04 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Ubiquity bugs are only tracked in Ubuntu ubiquity package.

This issue will not be fixed, in later releases webcam step has been
altogether removed, due to being buggy, creepy and not providing
significant benefit to the users. We may push a change in ubiquity to
also remove the webcam step in 12.04.4 release but I'm not sure that
qualifies under stable release updates policy.

** Changed in: xorg-lts-raring (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Won't Fix

** Project changed: ubiquity = ubiquity (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1220685] [NEW] Unity did not start on fresh install

2013-09-04 Thread Roope
Public bug reported:

I did a fresh install on my laptop. At first login the unity did not
start correctly, it was missing the upper and left bar. I managed to get
unity running by starting terminal with ctrl+alt+t and running ccsm.
There I needed to enable unity but it was buggy so I did that many times
and at some point it just start working.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 801229] Re: xorg GPU freezing

2013-09-04 Thread bmaupin
Is there any way I can request this bug to be closed? It's for a version
of Ubuntu that's no longer supported (10.10), and I didn't have this
problem in 10.04 LTS or 12.04 LTS.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1167301] Re: 8086:0166 [ThinkPad Twist S230u 3347] REGRESSION: Mirroring display works only with 1024x768 (4:3) whereas my laptop has 1366x768 (16:9) external monitor 1920x1080

2013-09-04 Thread Till Kamppeter
The last good kernel was 3.8.0-8.17 and the first bad kernel was
3.8.0-9.18. The changelog between the two releases is rather small but I
do not really have an idea which change could be the culprit.

See

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/3.8.0-9.18

I tried to bisect commits with git, but the two tags Ubuntu-3.8.0-9.18
and Ubuntu-3.8.0-8.17 are non-linear, so git bisect does not find the
path between them.

Perhaps the debdiff or the changes described by the changelog items need
to get investigated.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1066464] Re: SiS driver crashes Xserver with EXA acceleration

2013-09-04 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
If Ubuntu developers don't have time to fix xserver-xorg-video-sis
package, then this package should be removed from Ubuntu 12.10 and newer
releases (including Ubuntu 12.04.3), because then users can use Ubuntu
desktop at least - vesa driver works fine on SIS hardware, but xserver-
xorg-video-sis doesn't work at all since Ubuntu 12.10 :(

Another case is automatically create /etc/X11/xorg.conf file with Option
NoAccel true when SIS chipset is detected.

Section Device
Identifier Configured Video Device
Option NoAccel true
EndSection

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1066464] [NEW] SiS driver crashes Xserver with EXA acceleration

2013-09-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug by Daniel Letzeisen (dtl131):

[TRIAGE NOTE]
xserver-xorg-video-all metapackage should not depend on xserver-xorg-video-sis
because it makes Ubuntu = 12.10 unusable/uninstallable for SiS users, and
upstream X shows little interest in fixing/patching the SiS driver.

[WORKAROUND]:
For SiS users that already have Ubuntu installed, they can create an
/etc/X11/xorg.conf file with the following contents:

Section Device
Identifier Configured Video Device
Option NoAccel true
EndSection

Section Monitor
Identifier Configured Monitor
EndSection

Section Screen
Identifier Default Screen
Monitor Configured Monitor
Device Configured Video Device
EndSection

[ORIGINAL REPORT]:

After Upgrade to 12.10. The Xserver crashes.
I have tried lightdm und gdm.
Both of them load the Mouse and Background then they restart.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1167301] Re: 8086:0166 [ThinkPad Twist S230u 3347] REGRESSION: Mirroring display works only with 1024x768 (4:3) whereas my laptop has 1366x768 (16:9) external monitor 1920x1080

2013-09-04 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Till Kamppeter, as per
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#Why_did_the_folders_debian_and_debian.master_disappear.3F
one would want to switch to commit bisecting the mainline kernel as the
tags are linear.
