DRM PRIME support and other changes needed to support NVIDIA Optimus are
included in Ubuntu 12.10 "Quantal Quetzal". This will allow your Intel

"Reverse PRIME" support is included in Ubuntu 13.04 "Raring Ringtail",
which should allow your NVIDIA GPU to scan-out what's being rendered by
the Intel graphics processor.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 579292] Re: Switch of user causes display problems

2013-10-02 Thread Pablo Estigarribia
Hello,

I don't have exactly same problem, but I found some problems with xorg
when I switch user between openned sessions:

PROBLEM: I have session with 1600x1050 and switch to another user's
session that was previously set with same 1600x1050 resolution. But when
I switch to this session, the screen gets 1280x1024 and for some reason
the size of the session is very very wrong (it is bigger than the screen
resolution and I can't move or click most of the things so I have to
restart all Xorg).

WORKAROUND: Fortunately I have found some way to resolv it in a tricky way:
Change resolution file name with your resolution file.

1-Install get-edid command: sudo apt-get install read-edid
2-Create a bin file with edid information: sudo get-edid > 1600x1050.bin
3-Create a folder to store this file: sudo mkdir /lib/firmware/edid
4-Copy the file: sudo cp 1600x1050.bin
4-Edit grub to edit linux command to load this file in kms:
 -sudo editor /etc/default/grub
 -Edit line:
RUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware=edid/1600x1050.bin
quiet"
 Change your name.bin file.
 -sudo update-grub
 5-Reboot and test.

For some reason it worked for me very well.
I have this card and driver:
fglrxinfo
display: :0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: AMD Radeon HD 6450
OpenGL version string: 4.2.12002 Compatibility Profile Context 9.012

My edid information file is:

command: #parse-edid < 1600x1050.bin

parse-edid: parse-edid version 2.0.0
parse-edid: EDID checksum passed.

I was looking for other bug report similar in launchpad, but still
looking for the correct one. I would like find a user with same problem
I had, because I think this problems affects many things in KMS (Kernel
mode switch), not just switching between user session, also games in
full screen with different resolution and others things.

It is very hard to find the correct way to report this issue, I would
like to have some help with some Xorg/Kernel team.

I think this could be fixed in some low level, but could be also fixed
with this kind of workaround in some easier way for users: For example
adding some script that test if edid is detected or not, and asking the
user if he liked to let script get the edid info and parse it to the
kernel command, then ask if it was working fine and if the user wants to
keep these settings.

Hope it could help your issue too.

Cheers,
Pablo.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1232426] Re: Saicy beta Lubuntu does not save monitor configuration

2013-10-02 Thread jerrylamos
apport-collect needed python-apport which needed to update the system.

apport-collect couldn't use chrome so I had to figure out how to make
firefox the default browser.

I couldn't tell what apport-collect was doing, nothing showed on
Firefox, so I tried to do it again. Looks like a whole lot of
repitition here on the bug report.

Sorry, I hadn't run apport-collect before.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1232426] Re: Saicy beta Lubuntu does not save monitor configuration

2013-10-02 Thread jerrylamos
apport information

** Description changed:

Monitor configuration in saucy beta Lubuntu is set to turn off built in
monitor and set external monitor to 1360 instead of default 1920
(squint, hard to read read 1920x1080 on a 15.5" monitor).

Save configuration. Reboot, saved configuration is ignored and boots up
with both monitors on, 1920x1080 instead of the configuration I saved,
  built in monitor off, 1360x768.

I haven't had this problem with ubuntu saucy beta 1 can't test it with
the latest saucy beta because ubiquity won't run (separate launchpad
  bug).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1232426] xserver.devices.txt

2013-10-02 Thread jerrylamos
apport information

** Attachment added: "xserver.devices.txt"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1232426/+attachment/3856475/+files/xserver.devices.txt

I haven't had this problem with ubuntu saucy beta 1 can't test it with
the latest saucy beta because ubiquity won't run (separate launchpad
  bug).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1232426] Re: Saicy beta Lubuntu does not save monitor configuration

2013-10-02 Thread jerrylamos
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected ubuntu

** Description changed:

Monitor configuration in saucy beta Lubuntu is set to turn off built in
monitor and set external monitor to 1360 instead of default 1920
(squint, hard to read read 1920x1080 on a 15.5" monitor).

Save configuration. Reboot, saved configuration is ignored and boots up
with both monitors on, 1920x1080 instead of the configuration I saved,
  built in monitor off, 1360x768.

I haven't had this problem with ubuntu saucy beta 1 can't test it with
the latest saucy beta because ubiquity won't run (separate launchpad
  bug).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1234450] [NEW] Laptop Screen doesn't return after suspend

2013-10-02 Thread Cefn
Public bug reported:

I've been using an external screen, (as an extended desktop). When I
travel home from the office, I turn it off (in Gnome Display manager,
so that only the laptop's primary screen is active), physically
disconnect it, and suspend the laptop to travel.

At home when resuming without an external screen, the Laptop screen
doesn't come back on, though plugging an external monitor to VGA1
reveals a part of the extended desktop. It seems that X is still seeing
the primary LVDS1 screen (attaching a projector seems to show only the
extended desktop, toolbars menus and programs only appear on the hidden
primary screen).

Sometimes the same issue also affects the laptop from a clean boot
(occasionally I have no screen, though the machine appears to be
booting). Doing a hard reboot once or twice triggers the screen to come
back on.

Still the problem on raring (didn't had time to test since a few months)
:

If I'm starting normally, nothing on screen
If I use recovery mode then resume, unity loads, very very slow, and with bad
resolution
Impossible to use unity-system-compositor : unity-system-compositor close the
communication and lightdm switch bask on X with the same olds bugs

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1234334] [NEW] windows on previously disconnected second monitor no longer responsive

2013-10-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I upgraded yesterday to 13.04 from Ubuntu Studio 12.10; running xfce4
and xfwm4. On a dual-monitor setup, I accidentally kicked out the DVI
cable from one of the monitors and plugged it back in (this may have
already happened once or twice without consequence; I can't remember if
that was before or after the upgrade). This second monitor displays all
windows correctly, and the mouse cursor is able to move between screens
as usual. But none of the windows or other UI elements on the second
monitor receive focus or respond in any way. Switching virtual desktops
only switches the first monitor. Trying to move a window from the first
monitor to the second monitor shows the mouse cursor on the second
monitor but not the window contents (and the window gets "stuck" on the
first monitor as though there is no second monitor).

Going to the console and back to X blanks out the second monitor, but
the mouse cursor can still travel to it. NVIDIA X Server Settings no
longer shows the second monitor, and Detect Displays does not fix that.
ARandR shows both displays in its layout and allows both to be
configured, until a new layout is applied, then the second display is
completely disabled (mouse now properly stuck on first monitor) and not
configurable.

** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Incomplete

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1234260] Re: Package and use 'intel_l3_parity' binary

2013-10-02 Thread Ben-chgtaa3qpp0
To possibly clear up any confusion - the i915 driver will generate
uevents (see the tool's udev listener for an example). These events are
signs of parity errors in a specific part of the GPU's L3 cache. The
tool itself allows remapping these bad locations.

At a high level, it could work like:
1. HW detects paritity error, generates interrupt.
2. Kernel reports the uevent
3. udev rule receives the uevent, and information about the bad location (row,
bank, subbank, slice).
4. udev either directly, or indirectly invokes intel_l3_parity to remap
(disable; poorly named, I am sorry) that part of the cache.

Please let me know if people still have confusion.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1234212] Re: [i965gm] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x79050003

2013-10-02 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1157458] Re: visual glitch in Evolution's importance button, etc.

2013-10-02 Thread Chris Wilson
Hmm, could this also be:

Author: Chris Wilson
Date: Wed Oct 2 14:59:11 2013 +0100

sna: Only delete unused io buffers

Before deleting the io buffer, we need to check that it is not active.
Currently we check that it is not pending use in the current batch, but
we also need to double check that it does not have outstanding use by
the GPU. Failing to do so could mean overwriting the data prior to it
being read by the GPU, a very small race but often hit!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1232123] Re: Xorg freeze

2013-10-02 Thread Christoph
OK, I tried the steps but I receive the following:

DISPLAY=:0 dconf reset -f /org/compiz/

error: Fehler beim Erzeugen der Befehlszeile »dbus-launch
--autolaunch=037ecabb7358f86a0a7511505123cce1 --binary-syntax --close-
stderr«: Der Kindprozess wurde mit Status 1 beendet

Usage:
  dconf reset [-f] PATH

Reset a key or dir. -f is required for dirs.

Arguments:
PATH Either a KEY or DIR
KEY A key path (starting, but not ending with '/')
DIR A directory path (starting and ending with '/')

The error message is german, but it means that command dbus-launch... returns
that a childprocess terminates with 1

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1234159] Re: Graphical corruption with recent xserver-xorg-video-intel update

2013-10-02 Thread link
Pretty sure, because currently I'm unable to build the OpenGL driver for
MythTV, Xv was the only video renderer I was able to build. In fact,
the previous version of MythTV I was using I believe did use OpenGL and
did not have the corruption, it was only visible on the desktop before
MythTV started.

I'll try to get you a screenshot tonight.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1234178] Re: Capturing screen only returns black when resumed before

2013-10-02 Thread Chris Wilson
Sounds like:

commit 3fd116782bb1c05a140f4783e92a8ee6a57143cd
Author: Chris Wilson
Date: Mon Sep 23 21:03:07 2013 +0100

sna/dri: Clear the clear hint upon applying DRI damage

Otherwise a later call to GetImage will not notice the DRI update if it
was already clear - and so return a blank image. One example is the use
of x11vnc replaying xbmc.
