if you have xdiagnose installed before filing the bug, it'll attach all
the info already so no need to run apport-collect separately..

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1235089] [NEW] LightDM Doesn't work properly on AMD

2013-10-04 Thread Jeb E.
Public bug reported:

The default display manager of most Ubuntu desktops, LightDM, refuses to
work properly and smoothly on *most* Ubuntu desktops using AMD
processors and graphics chips. The mouse will often jitter around,
visual effects will be extremely slow, it often won't show me any
preview wallpapers or change the user name scroller until I stop moving
the mouse, Very very annoying. Please fix.

2013-10-04 Thread noon
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 47958 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/47958

The cleanest workaround would be the comment #17 above (except maybe naming the
file 89preserve_ld_library_path instead of 90preserve...).
The fix would be to add that code into the 90x11-common_ssh-agent script with
an explanatory comment.

This just sounds like regular LVDS fail - nothing specific to
suspendresume, just that is the easiest way to provoke the bug. My
presumption would be failed sanitizing after the BIOS messes up state.

before and after sr?

2013-10-04 Thread Daniel-ffwll
(In reply to comment #104)
I'm not sure my problem is related to this bug.

Most likely it isn't - gpu hang is similar to an application crashing.
Please file a new bug report and don't forget to attach the error state
file. That's the first thing we need to triage the bug.

And of course list the versions of all the userspace driver parts (mesa,
ddx, ...) since like a normal application crash most often it's not a
kernel bug, but a bug in the render commands submitted by userspace to
the gpu.

The GPU is a full Turing complete computational engine (in fact, lots of

I can reproduce this crash at will.

I am using xMir (I think) and Ubuntu 13.10, I am also using the new
google maps, if I use the zoom in Google maps after a few seconds of
zooming the desktop will hang.

ctrl-alt + 1 to a terminal and sudo service lightdm restart allows me
back into the desktop without a reboot.

Monito is actually 1920x1080 which is pretty small on a5.5 screen so I
usually set it with settings displays to 1360x768 just fine, or use

I can run xandr and fix it, but issued ubuntu-bug as is.

2013-10-04 Thread jerrylamos
I did look at bug #123428 mine is not like that in that the vertical bar
is always there. Opening tabs doesn't fix it.

Launcher is hidden, when I mouse over the launcher appears where the
black bar is, however when launcher hides again the desktop is not
restored.

Also, as in #5, sometimes there is a vertical sliver of the desktop at
the extreme left then the vertical black bar then the desktop.

Never saw this in Beta 1 or any previous daily build of 13.10. BTW,
been running development ubuntu on this pc since 10.10.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1235201] Re: saucy beta 2 could not apply the stored configuration for monitors

2013-10-04 Thread Chris Wilson
I suspect one of the key commits is:

commit dc498b433f36af5d2de3065e7c64cdb575385d81
Author: Adam Jackson a...@redhat.com
Date: Mon Feb 8 15:23:04 2010 -0500

xfree86: If the driver found modes on an output, don't add more

Inferring modes from sync ranges is only valid if the monitor says it's
valid. If the monitor says it's valid, then we'll have already added
those modes during EDID block parse. If it doesn't, then we should
believe it.

If there's no EDID for an output, but sync ranges from the config, we'll
still add default modes as normal.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1228570] Re: Login often fails

2013-10-04 Thread Till Kamppeter
I am also logging into my Thinkpad Twist via SSH (with -X option to be
able to use X apps) and indeed this influences whether I can log in. If
I am able to log in directly on my laptop's screen, I am able to log in
again and again as long as I do not log in via SSH. If I log in via SSH
from another machine while I am logged in on the laptop's own screen and
then log out on the laptop's screen I cannot log in again on the
laptop's screen. To be able to log in again, I have to log out of the
SSH session and log in again via SSH, after that I can log in again on
the laptop's screen.

My .Xauthority file is most probably the culprit. The laptop's screen is
DISPLAY :0, the SSH session has DISPLAY :10 (see DISPLAY variable in
terminal). The .Xauthority file has up to three lines. Most is
unreadable binary data, all contain till-twist (the host name of the
laptop) near the beginning, some binary bytes, a number, some more
binary bytes, MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1, and more binary bytes. In a healthy
(I can log in from the laptop's native screen) .XAuthority all lines
have different numbers, usually 0, 10, 11 in arbitrary order, or there
are only two lines, also with different numbers out of 0, 10, and 11. A
broken (I cannot log in) .Xauthority contains two lines with the number
10 and one with 11.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1235105] [NEW] Wrong dead key on us-intl keyboard layout

2013-10-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Since first version of Ubuntu I used (6.06), when I press Apostrophe
key and then c the result was ç.

However, now when I use the same sequence in Saucy Salamander (up-to-
date) I get ć.

Keyboard Layout: USA (international with dead keys)
System Language: pt_BR.UTF-8

I know, looks like a simple deal, but this change of experience can be
problematic for some users.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877010] Re: Keyboard freezes at random

2013-10-04 Thread Mahdi
I confirm this. I disabled Repeat Keys or Bounce Keys which repeats
a key if you hold it, so I don't get stuck on that.

But sometimes my keyboard freezes while typing, it's really annoying.
Suspending system and waking it up fixes the freeze.

Saying that top bar / sidebar didn't work, sometimes it happens, too, I
remember once my keyboard was frozen, I tried to suspend, but I couldn't
use the top bar.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1235293] [NEW] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x0b160001 IPEHR: 0x13000001

2013-10-04 Thread Tony Espy
Public bug reported:

I finally was able to install a stock saucy kernel on my new macbook
air.

After waking it from suspend this morning, my external monitor turned on
first, and then finally the builtin monitor lit up. The password
prompt showed up on the builtin monitor, but it seemed super sluggish.
I finally was able to enter my password, the desktop displayed properly
( note, again the desktop had been displayed on the external monitor the
whole time I was trying to enter my password ). At this point, I
realized I had no Wi-Fi connection, nor as a matter of fact did it
appear Wi-Fi was even enabled ( no networks in the menu ). So I
rebooted, and everything seemed OK again, except for the fact that a
problem report dialog showed up and resulted in me entering this
bug.

Note, my system was fully up-to-date as of yesterday.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1235201] Re: saucy beta 2 could not apply the stored configuration for monitors

2013-10-04 Thread jerrylamos
Well, this setup doesn't have xorg.conf.g or xorg.conf. I used to use them all
the time but ubuntu deleted xorg.conf.
so I tried making an xorg.conf with the data which rebooted into into low
graphics mode.
Let me see if I can make a folder xorg.conf.g and put a member vga.conf into it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1235201] Re: saucy beta 2 could not apply the stored configuration for monitors

2013-10-04 Thread jerrylamos
Tried again with /etc/X11/xorg.g/vga.conf. No luck. What I do to get a
usable desktop is:

#!/bin/bash
xrandr --newmode 1366x768_60.00 85.25 1366 1440 1576 1784 768 771 781 798
-hsync +vsync
xrandr --addmode VGA1 1366x768_60.00
xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1366x768_60.00

Previously with ubuntu, did that once, works right away, then next boot
got me 1366x768 sometimes.

Sometimes in ubuntu development making a .xprofile with that would work
sometimes not.

Or else go into Settings Displays and set 1360x768 which has been pretty
reliable until last few days.

Yikes, mistyped. That should have been /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/vga.conf

If you grep Monitor0 /var/log/Xorg.*.log that should confirm whether or
not the config is picked up.

Does anyone here notice graphics slow down? After a couple minutes of
game play with CSS, my framerate would drop to about 20fps (status of
other activities on the computer will also slowdown).

This did not happen in 13.04 but is occuring with 13.10.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1235201] Re: saucy beta 2 could not apply the stored configuration for monitors

2013-10-04 Thread jerrylamos
Chris, with /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/vga.conf as you specified booted right
up with no problem on configuration.

No big window top to bottom full of lines complaining about could not
apply stored configuration. Yay.

 cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep onitor
[19.831] (**) | |--Monitor default monitor
[19.831] (==) No monitor specified for screen Default Screen Section.
Using a default monitor configuration.
[19.936] (II) intel(0): Output LVDS1 has no monitor section
[20.036] (II) intel(0): Output VGA1 has no monitor section
[20.036] (II) intel(0): Output VIRTUAL1 has no monitor section

Now I still have bug #1234839 which is as far as I can tell when the
launcher unhides it has a black background, and when the launcher hides
again the vertical black bar is left. The wallpaper is not restored for
that section.

Timo, I reported bug#1232426 on Lubuntu. I set the display configuration to
1360x768, built in monito orr, save it, working O.K., reboot and get back to
the default 1920x1080 (squint) built in monitor on. No big warning messages
about could not apply. stored configuration like I get with 1235201.. So on
every boot I have to set the configuration again. You people would know
whether this is a manifestation of the same problem.
Come to think of it, I could put this config.d/vga.conf on Lubuntu to see what
happens.

This bug 1235201 on Ubuntu/unity gets a huge window taking up 1/3 of the
center of the screen top to bottom many many lines and says it could
not apply the stored configuration for monitors. Comment #1 in this
bug has a screenshot of the picture.

Chris I can do some limited fix testing - I've never recompiled the
kernel.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1180646] Re: cairo-dock rendering issues using openGL backend on intel GPU

2013-10-04 Thread Oleksandr
I had the same problem on my Dell Inspiron 7720 with integrated Intell
HD 4000 with Ubuntu 13.04. Downloading and installing Intel graphics
installer from https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads/2013/intelr-linux-
graphics-installer-version-1.0.2 and then updating the drivers fixed the
problem. Now i enjoy Cairo. Please check for the most updated intell
drivers, this may fix it for you.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1235516] [NEW] [gm45] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x0a8da72e

2013-10-04 Thread Paul
Public bug reported:

NetworkManager stopped being able to connect to Wi-Fi access points, so
I attempted to restart it. There was no /etc/init.d/network-manager
script (presumably removed during the upgrade to Saucy), so I ran:

service networking restart

This caused all GUI programs to be killed (several left crash logs,
which I did not submit to Launchpad for obvious reasons), leaving me
with just a wallpaper and a mouse pointer, still moveable. Attempting to
switch to a VT displayed first a black screen with the classic X
pointer, then finally a VT, but the system became unresponsive to any
key. Pressing the power button caused the system to shut down.

This is how the end of syslog looks:

Tried it again, another crash, though this one had different symptoms:
application windows remained running but without decoration, and the
window manager appeared to be caught in a restart loop.
