[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1235516] Re: service networking restart causes Xorg crash

2013-10-11 Thread Chris Wilson
The original cause seems to be bad RAM - there is a single invalid byte
inside an uncached memory region, which is most likely due to a physical
error not software.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1100286] Re: [drm:radeon_cs_ib_chunk] *ERROR* Failed to schedule IB !

2013-10-11 Thread Klaus Reichl
Tried the thing with
 cat /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf
 options radeon modeset=0
  which was proposed in older versions as workaround.
but it is not acceptable. Works only with low resolution and no evidence that
the bug goes away.

Had it again, however!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1223332] Re: [snb mesa blorp] False GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x7a000002

2013-10-11 Thread Joseph Wakeling
I'm running plain X today and HTML5 video is playing fine. So, I
conclude that the likely explanation is some part of the Intel driver
that's being activated by XMir but not by plain X.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1238914] [NEW] Random stuck keys on Lenovo Yoga 13

2013-10-11 Thread Donn Morrison
Public bug reported:

Certain keyboard keys get stuck down seemingly randomly resulting in
spurious bursts of key repeats. I have mostly noticed this with the
arrow keys, PgUp, PgDn and Delete. I have tried to replicate the
behaviour in the console with no luck so I believe this to be specific
to xserver. Using xev to debug a bit I can see that upon releasing the
key no keyup event is received. The key is not physically stuck.
Pressing any key on the keyboard interrupts the keydown repeats.

The common scenario is either browsing photos with eog or slides with
evince. This can cause data loss because if the move to trash
confirmation is disabled in eog you may delete many images without even
noticing. A minor annoyance when presenting slides because you suddenly
end up at the last slide in the deck, midway through your talk.

No, that is not a cache coherency bug. It is very likely it is just the
lack of synchronisation on the dma-buf between the two drivers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1238937] [NEW] i7-3610QM processor turbo boost not working properly

2013-10-11 Thread cyberalex4life
Public bug reported:

The problem is simple: turbo boost works only from 230 to 2301000.
bios_limit is set to 2301000
My machine:
Asus K55VD (laptop) Intel® Core™ i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30GHz × 8
Intel® Ivybridge Mobile
NVidia GeForce 610M/PCIe/SSE2
64-bit Ubuntu Gnome 13.04 (same problem on 13.10)
750 GB Hard Disk Hitachi HTS547575A9E384 (JE4OA6A0)
8GB RAM
I tried some of the solutions online but didn't get anywhere. I found this
problem with indicato-cpufreq, but I also monitored the frequency without it
installed. The maximum frequency should be about 3,1GHz on all cores, 3.2GHz on
two cores and 3.3GHz on one core. Please give me a good solution or, if not
safe, warn me about the problems.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1235516] Re: service networking restart causes Xorg crash

In the crash dump, the instruction that blows up has a single byte
incorrect. That is a constant written by the kernel into uncached memory
to be read by the GPU, so the write should be fine. That leaves either
it gets overwritten by something else or there was a physical defect.
Since I could only see a single byte invalid inside the crash dump, it
didn't look likely to be a stray invalid write - leading me to suspect
hardware.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1239037] [NEW] circular build-dependency between mesa, mir

2013-10-11 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

While testing cross-building of mir, I noticed that mir and mesa have a
build-dependency loop: installing the build-dependencies of mir installs
libmirclient-dev.

This is because mir build-depends on libegl1-mesa-dev, and libegl1-mesa-
dev depends on libmirclient-dev.

The libegl1-mesa runtime package does *not* depend on libmirclient3, so
this dependency looks spurious to me. Is there a reason this dependency
loop shouldn't be broken by dropping the dep from libegl1-mesa-dev -
libmirclient-dev? As near as I can tell, the dependency on
libmirclient-dev is because of this section of
/usr/include/EGL/eglplatform.h:

#elif defined(MIR_EGL_PLATFORM)

#include mir_toolkit/mir_client_library.h
typedef MirEGLNativeDisplayType EGLNativeDisplayType;
typedef void   *EGLNativePixmapType;
typedef MirEGLNativeWindowType  EGLNativeWindowType;

[...]

But that's optional, and anybody defining MIR_EGL_PLATFORM would
presumably need to depend on mir themselves, no?
