For your information:

> dkms status

Both modules were listed as being activated.

I used this command, and everything worked perfectly on reboot.

Thanks for posting a solution

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 840493] Re: Alps Touchpad Detected as Glide PS/2 mouse

2013-12-23 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Anirudh Ruia, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily
folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you
tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc5

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1181902] Re: Nouveau driver glitch on Ubuntu 13.04 will cause system to freeze under certain conditions

2013-12-23 Thread Allan Medeiros de Azevedo
Same "GeForce 6150SE nForce 430" and after installing Ubuntu 13.10, system
freezes after logon.
The "nomodeset" trick in first boot works. No more freezes at logon, but start
Firefox: BOOM! :)

Using "nvidia-current" (304, 173, updates, PPA SWAT or xorg-edgers), in
my case, the system don't freezes, but makes him very laggy.

"Please vmclark, can you copy here the .config settings for Kubuntu (an
tell me what .config file is)?" +1

Cheers

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1241595] Re: 10de:1056 [Dell Latitude E6520] System freezes when using nouveau driver with Nvidia NVS 4200M

2013-12-23 Thread Giordano Battilana
Hi Christopher,

today I tried out the Nouveau driver again (I upgraded the BIOS about 1
month ago), unfortunately the outcome is still the same :\

I booted up with the Nouveau driver, logged in and started browsing the
system: in less than one minute everything but the mouse froze up. Few
more seconds and the cursor stopped moving as well.

I rebooted, I wanted to re-install the NVidia Proprietary driver back.
I logged in, opened the "Software & Updates" dialog and clicked on the Nvidia
driver. Unfortunately, after about 45-60 seconds, the system froze up and
blocked again.

I should mention that the keyboard was not working either, probably the entire
system was blocked.
I tried to press Alt + F1 (but also F2, F3, etc...) and nothing happened.
I had an open console and tried to blindly type in "sudo reboot" and my
password to reboot the system, but that didn't work either.

The output of the command you passed me is:
$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
A18
06/28/2013

Thanks for your interest in this issue, let me know if I can help some more.
Regards,
Giordano

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1263248] Re: I don't know

2013-12-23 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. Just dumping a bunch of
logs and saying "I don't know u study them!" is not going to work.

We have instructions on debugging X.org problems at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Debugging

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015183] Re: Inconsistent mouse events for Acer T231H multitouch monitor

2013-12-23 Thread Shawn Rutledge
This is quite a severe bug. If you have a touchscreen connected, and
you have touched it at some point:

1) start gitk or tkinfo or a recent Qt Creator (or probably many other Qt 5
programs)
2) scroll some long text with the mouse wheel
3) move the mouse

It selects text as if the left mouse button was being pressed. So in
other words if you have a touchscreen your mouse wheel isn't very useful
anymore in certain applications.

I think it should be fixed in 12.04 too, not just in newer releases.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1238410] Re: Inconsistent cursor visibility with cursor plugin enabled

2013-12-23 Thread Philip
SInce no one else has chimed in, here's my situation... I had the mouse
cursor disappears problem on a fresh install of 13.10. Drove me nuts.
Changing the gnome settings to false (as reported elsewhere I think) did
not bring the cursor back, however, going to a full-screen terminal
(CTL-ALT-F6/F7 for me) brought the cursor back. The cursor would
disappear at random times, however there were two things that I could do
to guarantee to make it happen. Open a video in VLC or run SSVNC.

I'm not sure I did it correctly, but I added the saucy-proposed
repository and I added the /etc/apt/preference file to not force other
updates. Then I opened synaptic and could not find the xorg-server
package that had been updated. Couldn't find anything like that, but I
did find several packages with the similar version (2:1.14.3) so I
blindly upgraded xserver-xorg-core, which also upgraded xserver-xorg-
common (I think, because I can't find it in synaptic). I am now running
xserver-xorg-core 2:1.14.5-1ubuntu2~saucy1.

Anyway, all that to say that since I did that yesterday, it has
completely fixed the bug for me. Haven't had the cursor disappear once.
It fixed the VLC issue as well as the SSVNC issue. Thank you very
much!!!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 442574] Re: mesa doesn't work when fglrx is installed

2013-12-23 Thread Gioele Barabucci
Here is a use case that I hope can change the status of this report from
Opinion to New/Confirmed.

The fglrx package is needed if one wants to use the AMD CodeXL tool, an
OpenGL/OpenCL development tool from AMD. The CodeXL tool can work with
"offline devices", i.e. without having an AMD GPU in the computer from
where it is run, but it requires the Catalyst/fglrx libraries to be
installed anyway.

Here is the problem: when CodeXL sees that the host is using an AMD
libGL.so library, it disables its "offline" features and tries to use
the available AMD GPU. But there are no available AMD GPUs, so it fails.

To use CodeXL one has to

1. start on a system where fglrx is not installed
2. install fglrx (this install libGL.so and many other libraries)
3. use CodeXL (the fglrx's libGL.so is present but not loaded, so CodeXL does
not know it is available and "offline devices" can be used)
4. remove fglrx

If one reboots without removing the fglrx package, then its libGL will
be loaded and CodeXL will stop to work.

This problem would be solved if it were possible to install fglrx
without activating its version of libGL.so.

Couldn't dpkg-divert be used to make the current libGL.so selectable in
a sane way until a more complete solution is found?

For the records, this is still a problem in precise 12.04 LTS.

Setting max_flush_vertices to 1 fixes the problem here, with the
mentioned noticeable performance loss. IIRC, hibernating/resuming can
accelerate the appearance of the bug, but I'm not quite sure about this,
it might also be coincidence.

I will now try to decrease the value from the default one to find the
sweet spot.
