[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1256561] Re: starting mathematica 9 crashes xserver
interesting detail: on certain machines with fglrx launching of the mathematica frontend does not crash x11 immediately, also not upon exit. but, after the frontend has been left opened for several hours, a simple disturbance, like starting firefox, crashes the x11 and lightdm comes up with the login request. what is even more interesting, logging in after such a crash and starting the firefox again (no mathematica frontend around anymore after the crash), this again, repeatedly crashes the x11. logging in and starting firefox crashes x11 again and so long in infinity. the only thing that clears this mess up is rebooting. i have never before encountered such a bug in my life with linux. it seems that mathematica does not break the x11 directly, but somehow corrupts some system library, probably libc or even kernel itself... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1256561 Title: starting mathematica 9 crashes xserver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1256561/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 952401] Re: Shutting the lid interrupts laptop suspend
Bryan Eastin, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xorg replace-with-bug-number Thank you for your understanding. Helpful bug reporting tips: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs ** Description changed: When I select Turn off the screen as the action to be performed when my laptop lid is closed I get the following behavior: If I direct the computer to suspend (sleep) and then close lid of the laptop before it's finished going to sleep then the suspend process never completes. I think the laptop ought to go to sleep regardless of how quickly I close the lid. I believe this issue is related to the bugs reported at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acpi/+bug/859178 and https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/387553, though I was unable to reproduce these bugs. (It is presumably also related to the fact that when I had Sleep selected as the action to be performed when my laptop lid was closed putting the laptop to sleep and then closing the lid too fast would result in two suspends. That is, the laptop would suspend, but when I woke it it, it would suspend a second time.) This is not a pressing issue for me since I have discovered that selecting Do nothing as the action to be performed when my laptop lid is closed results in the correct behavior and turning my screen off when the lid is closed but the computer is still on is not a huge priority. Nevertheless, it would be nice to fix this. - Bryan + WORKAROUND: Wait until suspend initiated via command line or GUI to + finish before closing the lid. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 423940] Re: Vsync not working with nvidia dual monitors
I'll add some informations I think could be useful. My conf : Kubuntu 13.10, KDE+Openbox (no compiz), Geforce 8400 GS, Nvidia driver 304.88. Two screens : Primary : Idek Iiyama PL2206W on DVI, 1680x1050@59.95Hz Secondary : Samsung SyncMaster on VGA, 1280x1024@60.02Hz I can see clearly tearing in VLC. But what's interesting is that I can see tearing in the primary monitor and not the secondary if the output of VLC is set to GLX, and I can see tearing on the secondary monitor but not the primary if the output is set to XVideo. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/423940 Title: Vsync not working with nvidia dual monitors To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/423940/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
