2014-01-20 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Robert Grønning, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

that. Hence, I've tried and found the bug present on Ubuntu 12.10,
13.04, Trusty, and also Fedora 18, and Fedora 19 - i.e. everything every
put on this machine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1002224] Re: Please include gallium vdpau and xvmc driver support

2014-01-20 Thread Peter Frühberger
To bump that issue a bit. We are running self made packages by wsnipex
(https://launchpad.net/~wsnipex) since more than 6 months now. Trusty
would bring everything (kernel, mesa, etc.) to be in really good shape
for OSS radeon with vdpau.

If you need some background information or even want to see it in
action, have look here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=174854

It would be really nice to have that relevant package included in trusty
by default. Remember: Slow AMD E350 Fusion CPU are not able to play any
HD content on their CPU, therefore GPU decoding support is a must.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1205643] Re: VIA P4M800 graphics broken in Lubuntu/Xubuntu Saucy 12.04.4 candidate

2014-01-20 Thread Erick Brunzell
Hi Bartosz.

I assume you want those from Saucy and and the Saucy Hardware Enablement
Stack in the 12.04.4 candidates. Is that correct?

I'm just preparing for Trusty Alpha 2 testing for flavors so it could be
next week before I get back to this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 836876] Re: not checked permissions in /tmp

2014-01-20 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
It's not a common scenario so it's not really going to be fixed. It can
only happen if your system is already hosed, and it would fail in other
ways too.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1260513] Re: 045e:00f9 [Gateway DX4860] Horizontal scrolling is broken with 9-button Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 5000

2014-01-20 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Val, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily
folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you
tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc8

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1259237] Re: Hybrid graphics enablement in 12.04.4

2014-01-20 Thread Colin Watson
Hello Alberto, or anyone else affected,

Accepted nvidia-prime into precise-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-
prime/0.5~hybrid0.0.2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

warren, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
 /daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

 apport-collect -p xorg replace-with-bug-number

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1243557]

2014-01-20 Thread Rebecca Palmer
It still doesn't find the firmware after updating the initramfs (sudo
update-initramfs -u -k all), whether it is placed at
/lib/firmware/nouveau/nvd9_fuc*, /lib/firmware/nouveau/fuc*,
/lib/firmware/kernel_version/nouveau/nvd9_fuc* or
/lib/firmware/kernel_version/nouveau/fuc*. (The script uses nvd9_fuc*
but http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/NVC0_Firmware/ says just fuc*
for pre-NVE0 cards.)

My 3.13-rc7 test kernel was compiled with the procedure in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/GitKernelBuild; the .config lines containing
nouveau are
CONFIG_DRM_NOUVEAU=m
CONFIG_NOUVEAU_DEBUG=5
CONFIG_NOUVEAU_DEBUG_DEFAULT=3
CONFIG_DRM_NOUVEAU_BACKLIGHT=y
and kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/nouveau/nouveau.ko is on the modules.order list, not
the modules.builtin list.

What does not in the initrd mean? The files were in /lib/firmware/nouveau

But was this /lib/firmware/nouveau available when the nouveau module
loaded? E.g. if it loads from initrd, this needs to be in the initrd. If
nouveau is built-in, the firmware files need to be baked into the kernel
(I think).

You must have named the fuc files wrong or they were not in the initrd,
if nouveau fails to load the firmware like this it simply bails out and
the driver won't finish loading, hence the blank screen.

It still doesn't find the firmware after updating the initramfs (sudo

 http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/NVC0_Firmware/ says just fuc* for
 pre-NVE0 cards.)

Erm, that's a lie. I've been meaning to fix it. I'm like 99.999% sure it
always has to be nvXX_fucYYY[cd]. I'll double-check it again before
updating the wiki. Putting it in /lib/firmware/nouveau is sufficient --
adding in the kernel version also works, but you'd normally just do that
for firmware that was kernel version dependent, which this isn't.

My 3.13-rc7 test kernel was compiled with the procedure in
 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/GitKernelBuild; the .config lines
 containing nouveau are
 CONFIG_DRM_NOUVEAU=m
 CONFIG_NOUVEAU_DEBUG=5

 CONFIG_DRM_NOUVEAU_BACKLIGHT=y
and kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/nouveau/nouveau.ko is on the modules.order list,
 not the modules.builtin list.

Don't know what to say. It just uses request_firmware() so it's whatever
the kernel's normal mechanism for loading firmware.

Michael Faath, thank you updating your BIOS. As a WORKAROUND, would using
syclient via the following terminal command allow for the cursor to be less
jumpy:
syclient MinSpeed=1.2 MaxSpeed=2.4 AccelFactor=0.045

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 360724] Re: [RV515] Kubuntu: Corrupted mouse cursor after moving between screens

2014-01-20 Thread Marc
It's still an issue. I'm on the latest Kubuntu with a Radeon, and my
experience is almost exactly the same as described above. I'm using KDE
PPAs (so I should have the latest KDE packages as well). Also on the
latest standard kernel, etc.

On reboot, the mouse cursor is the same on both monitors. For some
reason that I can't determine, moving between them sometimes triggers
the cursor to split into a vertical line into about a dozen very small
cursors. (Sounds just like the report here:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33183 which is almost
certainly the same issue). Then moving back and forth causes the cursor
to become larger and completely garbled (in a square about 1 cm x 1 cm,
at least twice as large as the original cursor), and after a few more
times between each monitor, the cursor settles into the chopped cursor
posted in the images by those above until reboot.

Some other observations:

* The cursor still points at the same spot, so it seems to be a purely
rendering issue.

* The two monitors are not the same resolution.

* If I open a virtual machine on the corrupted monitor, the cursor is
still corrupted inside the virtual machine window, but changes color as
expected (from Kubuntu blue to Ubuntu white).

* Nothing else seems to be affected visually.

Marc, thank you for your comment. So your hardware and problem may be tracked,
could you please file a new report by executing the following in a terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg

For more on this, please see the official Ubuntu documentation:
Ubuntu X.Org Team, Ubuntu Bug Control, and Ubuntu Bug Squad:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/BestPractices#X.2BAC8-Reporting.Focus_on_One_Issue
Ubuntu Community:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette

When opening up the new report, please feel free to subscribe me to it.

Please note, not filing a new report will delay your problem being

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1270992] Re: Mouse cursor rendering issue

2014-01-20 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Marc, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could
you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu?
ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-
live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information. As well, please
note given that the information from the prior release is already
available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would
not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1001821] [NEW] [regression] MSI Wind U-100 hangs on resume from suspend

2014-01-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Worked fine in Oneiric. Upon upgrading to Precise, approximately 3/4
suspends will hang upon resume. Mouse is movable, and in fact the cursor
changes correctly to I-beam when mousing over text that was already on
the screen, however nothing responds to mouse or keyboard input.
Pressing alt-sysrq-k successfully kicks back to the login screen, and
everything is fine.

Filing against x.org because the following appears in kern.log on every failed
suspend:
[drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id

(If kernel or compiz are more appropriate, please reassign).

I'm willing to get my hands dirty tracking this down.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1001821] Re: [regression] MSI Wind U-100 hangs on resume from suspend

2014-01-20 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Evan Huus, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information. As well, please
note given that the information from the prior release is already
available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would
not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1242180] Re: saucy regression - three monitors no longer work

2014-01-20 Thread Matthew Braun
I usually upgrade my system a few months after a release so bugs like
this are identified and have plenty of time to be fixed before I
upgrade. I just upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10 and ran into this exact bug
(and currently stuck only being able to use two of my three monitors).
It is unfortunate that this bug was identified and mostly tracked down
then stalled without getting fixed.

As a user of Ubuntu, I would most certainly like to answer the question
from Christopher Would you need a backport to a release prior to
Trusty with a resounding YES! Please backport the fix in the kernel to
the current production release of Ubuntu, Saucy Salamander (13.10).

It seems like Roger was very willing to try other 3.12 kernels to narrow
down the bug fix and it would be great if Timo or whoever would continue
working with Roger to narrow down the problem so it is easier to
identify the bug fix and backport it to the current Ubuntu release.

I would much prefer to use the currently supported kernel instead of
running a pre-Ubuntu-release kernel. But in the mean time, Roger, please
share your notes in the comments with the workaround you are using to
run a newer kernel with the fix (that is also hopefully stable), thanks!

Christopher, can you please reclassify the status of this bug and put in
the request to have the fix backported?

Thanks for the explanation. It's a pity that it's no possible to solve
this bug, yet. It's the last feature I need after DPM and UVD have been
included in the oss radeon-driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1242180] Re: saucy regression - three monitors no longer work

2014-01-20 Thread Roger Binns
All I know is that whatever the cause was, it was fixed in 3.12 even in
the rcs. I have no idea what the actual fix was.

Kernel 3.11 end of lifed November last year. I also use btrfs for which
there have been maintenance patches in 3.12.

I followed the Kernel Build and Installation section at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/GitKernelBuild
