[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1273162] [NEW] Switching user brings black X screen //nouveau
Public bug reported: Environment Ubuntu 14.04, lightdm, unity The problem occurs while trying to switch to another running user session. It brings black X screen instead of password prompt window. Steps to reproduce: 1. Login as user1 //creates X on vt7 2. Switch to new user session for user2 //creates X on vt8 3. Try to switch to user1 session via indicator-session //creates X on vt9 with black screen This bug is similiar to a bunch of registered bugs related to incorrect file permissions. But none of advices helped. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
I am running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I am facing the full freeze issues too. So much that its froze for 12 times in 2 hours. Hard Reboot is the only way to revive the system. The configuration is, Intel Core i7 2630QM @ 2.00 GHz 4 GB RAM (2x2) + 2 GB Swap nVidia GT 540M During freezes trackpad doesn't work. Some have upgraded kernel from 3.2 to 3.4 and have solved their issues. I am running kernel 3.8 and still facing issues. The Xorg display drivers seemed to create problems so running Additional Drivers for nVidia recommended by Ubuntu. Any views on how to proceed further? Strangest thing is never once a bug report was generated after hard reset of the laptop. Any help is appreciated. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
Hi, I was running different Nvidia graphic cards with different proprietary Nvidia drivers (see my previous post). Changed the Nvidia graphic card to an old HD 5670 Radeon AMD and loaded the catalyst drivers. *Until now no more system hangups has appeared.* Will try e newer AMD R9 290 card later on. This explains why my kids PC did not hang at all, due to running it on the internal Intel CPU graphic. So for my system, it seems that the freezes was related to graphic card. I don't know if the bug is in the proprietary Nvidia drivers or in Ubuntu. Sad to change from the Nvidia, because it always worked like a dream in Linux. [ Alberto Milone ] * debian/substvars: - Add support for lts flavours up to saucy. * debian/templates/control.in: - Depend on lib32gcc1 [amd64], libc6-i386 [amd64] (LP: #1236945). - Drop lpia. * debian/templates/dkms.conf.in: - Drop patche for Linux 3.11. * debian/rules: - Blacklist the opposite flavour. - Blacklist kernel modules from the other flavours. * debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.dirs.in, debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.install.in, debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.override.in, debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.postinst.in, debian/nvidia-autostart.desktop.in, debian/ubuntu-nvidia-settings.desktop.in: - Remove nvidia-settings icon, desktop file, and autostart file. [ Andy Dick ] * debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.preinst.in: - Attempt uninstallation of any existing .run file installation before installing Debian-packaged driver. * debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.postinst.in: - Add libcuda.so symlinks in /usr/lib*. * debian/rules: - Conditionalize the copying of Makefile.kbuild to Makefile. This adds support for newer drivers, while maintaining support for packaging older drivers. - Avoid extracting unnecessary .run files. The 64-bit package needs both the 32- and 64-bit .run files, but the 32-bit package does not. Change the unpackaging rules to unpack only the native package by default, and only unpack the 32-bit x86 package on amd64. Also, instead of changing the .run file permissions to ensure that the .run file is executable, just call it as an argument to sh. - Don't assume that extracted files are writable. The package contents extracted from some .run file installers may not have write permissions enabled. To work around this, move files instead of copying them to a temporary location before running sed scripts, and add force flags to applicable commands. -- Alberto Milone alberto.mil...@canonical.com Wed, 11 Dec 2013 14:02:39 +0100 ** Changed in: screen-resolution-extra (Ubuntu Precise) Status: Fix Committed = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-settings in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1259237 Title: Hybrid graphics enablement in 12.04.4 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bbswitch/+bug/1259237/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

This would also break PRIME. * debian/control.in, debian/postinst.in, debian/postrm.in, debian/prerm.in, debian/rules: - Drop alternatives and remove templates, as we only have one nvidia-settings for all the driver flavours. * debian/dirs, debian/install, debian/nvidia-settings-autostart.desktop, debian/nvidia-settings.desktop: - Install the icon and the desktop files. * debian/control: - Add ${misc:Depends}. - Build depend on libvdpau-dev and depend on libvdpau1. - Create transitional packages for 319, 319-updates, 313-updates, 310, 310-updates, 304, 304-updates, experimental-304, updates. - Remove lpia. - Depend on screen-resolution-extra (= 0.14ubuntu2.1). * debian/rules: - Pass the destdir argument in uppercase to match the variable. - Add download-sources target. - Clean action in rules to target clean instead of distclean. - Do not compress .c and .mk files. -- Alberto Milone alberto.mil...@canonical.com Wed, 11 Dec 2013 15:23:40 +0100 ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-304-updates (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-settings in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1259237 Title: Hybrid graphics enablement in 12.04.4 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bbswitch/+bug/1259237/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1259237] Re: Hybrid graphics enablement in 12.04.4
This bug was fixed in the package nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 - 304.116-0ubuntu0.0.1 --- nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 (304.116-0ubuntu0.0.1) precise-proposed; urgency=low * New upstream release (LP: #1259237): - Improved compatibility with recent Linux kernels. - Updated the NVIDIA OpenGL driver to write temporary files to $TMPDIR if it is set, instead of unconditionally writing to /tmp (LP: #1212425). - Updated a fallback of writing temporary files to $HOME/.nvidia to use $HOME/.nv instead, as the latter path is already used for other NVIDIA driver related files. [ Alberto Milone ] * debian/substvars: - Add support for lts flavours up to saucy. * debian/templates/control.in: - Depend on lib32gcc1 [amd64], libc6-i386 [amd64] (LP: #1236945). - Drop lpia. * debian/templates/dkms.conf.in: - Drop patch for Linux 3.10. * debian/rules: - Blacklist the opposite flavour. - Blacklist kernel modules from the other flavours. - Add the download-sources target. * debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.dirs.in, debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.install.in, debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.override.in, debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.postinst.in, debian/nvidia-autostart.desktop.in, debian/ubuntu-nvidia-settings.desktop.in: - Remove nvidia-settings icon, desktop file, and autostart file. This is all provided by nvidia-settings now. * debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.prerm.in, debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.install.in, debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.postinst.in: - Disable glamoregl. - Do not update gmenucache any more. -- Alberto Milone alberto.mil...@canonical.com Wed, 11 Dec 2013 14:07:02 +0100 ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-331 (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-settings in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1259237 Title: Hybrid graphics enablement in 12.04.4 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bbswitch/+bug/1259237/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1273445] [NEW] Monitor does not wake on user input
Public bug reported: My display settings specify that the screen should be turned off after one hour (in Brightness Lock). When I return to the machine after the screen has been turned off and press keys on the keyboard, the screen won't come back on. I have tried moving the mouse, clicking the mouse, unplugging and replugging the USB devices, and attaching another USB device. The OS is simply ignoring user input. The only way to get a screen is to unplug and replug the monitor. At that point, all the input devices work normally, and I see all my keystrokes in the login dialog. So the OS is failing to do the turn on the screen now thing when it is most obviously aware of user input. asgard2, the fact HDMI doesn't work at all in Precise through Saucy would be a downstream (Ubuntu) only issue. However, the issue of low FPS and graphics artifacts in Trusty is an upstream one. Could you please report this problem through the appropriate channel by following the instructions _verbatim_ at http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/Bugs/ ? Please provide a direct URL to your bug report once you have made it so that it may be tracked. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1272781] Re: Often system freezes
I've uninstalled AMD's propriety drivers. I'm using the i915 intel driver now. This is very frustrating, I thought Linux would be much more stable and robust ! You can use xdiagnose to collect your logs and open an xorg bug like I did. I'm not sure if the developers will still care to fix this bug after I've removed the driver that was installed when I faced this issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1272781 Title: Often system freezes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1272781/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a regular (non-security) bug.
