[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1273162] [NEW] Switching user brings black X screen //nouveau

2014-01-27 Thread kao
Public bug reported:

Environment
Ubuntu 14.04, lightdm, unity

The problem occurs while trying to switch to another running user session. It
brings black X screen instead of password prompt window.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Login as user1   //creates X on vt7
2. Switch to new user session for user2 //creates X on vt8
3. Try to switch to user1 session via indicator-session //creates X on vt9 with
black screen

This bug is similiar to a bunch of registered bugs related to incorrect file
permissions.
But none of advices helped.

I found out that only blacklisting of nouveau kernel module helps

I attached logs from /var/log/lightdm

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2014-01-27 Thread VaidhyM
I am running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I am facing the full freeze issues too.
So much that its froze for 12 times in 2 hours. Hard Reboot is the only
way to revive the system. The configuration is,

Intel Core i7 2630QM @ 2.00 GHz
4 GB RAM (2x2) + 2 GB Swap
nVidia GT 540M

During freezes trackpad doesn't work. Some have upgraded kernel from 3.2
to 3.4 and have solved their issues. I am running kernel 3.8 and still
facing issues. The Xorg display drivers seemed to create problems so
running Additional Drivers for nVidia recommended by Ubuntu. Any views
on how to proceed further? Strangest thing is never once a bug report
was generated after hard reset of the laptop. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2014-01-27 Thread Antonio Falk
Hi,

I was running different Nvidia graphic cards with different proprietary
Nvidia drivers (see my previous post).

Changed the Nvidia graphic card to an old HD 5670 Radeon AMD and loaded
the catalyst drivers. *Until now no more system hangups has appeared.*
Will try e newer AMD R9 290 card later on.

This explains why my kids PC did not hang at all, due to running it on the
internal Intel CPU graphic.

So for my system, it seems that the freezes was related to graphic card. I
don't know if the bug is in the proprietary Nvidia drivers or in Ubuntu.
Sad to change from the Nvidia, because it always worked like a dream in
Linux.

   Update: 6/12/2012
   This bug is about a complete system lock-up. No other TTYs can be
 started. Mouse doesn't move. Keyboard doesn't react. The only solution is
 hard reset.

   Seems to happen on a variety of configurations, including nVidia, ATI
   and Intel graphics.

   If you are still able to TTY or SSH into other sessions, move the
   mouse or use the keyboard, file another bug.

   Thx. Joris V. (brains).

   Update: 5/21/2012
   Updating the kernel to 3.3.6 as suggested by Michael in #91, the system
 seems stable, no freezes yet in 5-6 hrs of using and watching videos for
 couple of hrs.

   Original description:
   I recently installed newly released ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit version on
 my desktop. And it is frequently freezing, for the first few hours it ran
 smoothly and when I started watching videos it started freezing randomly.
   I have to use hard restart every time.
   Initially it was only during videos but now even during normal browsing
 it is freezing.

   I am using on board graphics and do not have any graphics card
   installed.

   Can someone please help me here, I really love the new looks of 12.04
   and it bugs me not being able to use :(

   Below is my hardware configuration:
   Processor: Intel CORE i3 processor (2nd generation)
   Board: Intel® Desktop Board DH67BL
   Ram: 4GB
   Graphics: On board
   HDD: 500 GB

   Please let me know if you need more information, or any specific logs
   I can capture (and how).

   Thanks,
   Ketan Patil

Maybe a workaround :
# echo blacklist dell_laptop  /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

It seems that dell_laptop is conflicting with something.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1273246] [NEW] gpu crash dump in i915

2014-01-27 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

I'm seeing in dmesg logs:
[15869.816016] [drm] stuck on render ring
[15869.816022] [drm] GPU crash dump saved to /sys/class/drm/card0/error
[15869.816023] [drm] GPU hangs can indicate a bug anywhere in the entire gfx
stack, including userspace.
[15869.816024] [drm] Please file a _new_ bug report on bugs.freedesktop.org
against DRI - DRM/Intel
[15869.816026] [drm] drm/i915 developers can then reassign to the right
component if it's not a kernel issue.
[15869.816027] [drm] The gpu crash dump is required to analyze gpu hangs, so
please always attach it.

This started sometime in the last couple weeks on trusty.

It is moderately annoying in that apport kicks in and walks me through a
collection process and then (I think) *it* dies, so I was unable to
actually report the bug.

Instead, I reported this bug with:
  ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-video-intel

One thing that might be interesting is that /sys/class/drm/card0/error
is an empty file. (and so is /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state)

2014-01-27 Thread Chris Wilson
Hint, cat /sys/class/drm/card0/error

(It's a psuedo-filesystem where file sizes are not known until the file
is read, so ls which only reads the inode information reports an empty
file.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1273341] [NEW] Sync libxfont 1:1.4.7-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2014-01-27 Thread Logan Rosen
Public bug reported:

Please sync libxfont 1:1.4.7-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * SECURITY UPDATE: denial of service and possible code execution via
stack overflow
- debian/patches/CVE-2013-6462.patch: limit sscanf field in
  src/bitmap/bdfread.c.
- CVE-2013-6462
This security fix is in the new upstream release in Debian.

Changelog entries since current trusty version 1:1.4.6-1ubuntu1:

libxfont (1:1.4.7-1) unstable; urgency=high

  * New upstream release
+ CVE-2013-6462: unlimited sscanf overflows stack buffer in
  bdfReadCharacters()
  * Don't put dbg symbols from the udeb in the dbg package.
  * dev package is no longer Multi-Arch: same (closes: #720026).
  * Disable support for connecting to a font server. That code is horrible and
full of holes.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1259237] Re: Hybrid graphics enablement in 12.04.4

2014-01-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package nvidia-graphics-drivers-304-updates -
304.116-0ubuntu0.0.1

---
nvidia-graphics-drivers-304-updates (304.116-0ubuntu0.0.1) precise-proposed;
urgency=low

  * New upstream release (LP: #1259237):
- Improved compatibility with recent Linux kernels.
- Updated the NVIDIA OpenGL driver to write temporary files to
  $TMPDIR if it is set, instead of unconditionally writing to
  /tmp (LP: #1212425).
- Updated a fallback of writing temporary files to $HOME/.nvidia
  to use $HOME/.nv instead, as the latter path is already used
  for other NVIDIA driver related files.

  [ Alberto Milone ]
  * debian/substvars:
- Add support for lts flavours up to saucy.
  * debian/templates/control.in:
- Depend on lib32gcc1 [amd64], libc6-i386 [amd64]
  (LP: #1236945).
- Drop lpia.
  * debian/templates/dkms.conf.in:
- Drop patche for Linux 3.11.
  * debian/rules:
- Blacklist the opposite flavour.
- Blacklist kernel modules from the other flavours.
  * debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.dirs.in,
debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.install.in,
debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.override.in,
debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.postinst.in,
debian/nvidia-autostart.desktop.in,
debian/ubuntu-nvidia-settings.desktop.in:
- Remove nvidia-settings icon, desktop file, and autostart file.
  This is all provided by nvidia-settings now.
  * debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.prerm.in,
debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.install.in,
debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.postinst.in:
- Disable glamoregl.
- Do not update gmenucache any more.

  [ Andy Dick ]
  * debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.preinst.in:
- Attempt uninstallation of any existing .run file
  installation before installing Debian-packaged
  driver.
  * debian/templates/nvidia-graphics-drivers.postinst.in:
- Add libcuda.so symlinks in /usr/lib*.
  * debian/rules:
- Conditionalize the copying of Makefile.kbuild to
  Makefile. This adds support for newer drivers,
  while maintaining support for packaging older drivers.
- Avoid extracting unnecessary .run files. The 64-bit
  package needs both the 32- and 64-bit .run files, but
  the 32-bit package does not. Change the unpackaging
  rules to unpack only the native package by default,
  and only unpack the 32-bit x86 package on amd64.
  Also, instead of changing the .run file permissions
  to ensure that the .run file is executable, just call
  it as an argument to sh.
- Don't assume that extracted files are writable.
  The package contents extracted from some .run file
  installers may not have write permissions enabled.
  To work around this, move files instead of copying
  them to a temporary location before running sed
  scripts, and add force flags to applicable commands.

This bug was fixed in the package nvidia-settings - 331.20-0ubuntu0.0.1

---
nvidia-settings (331.20-0ubuntu0.0.1) precise-proposed; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/series:
- Do not apply 01_allow_dark_themes.dpatch.
  * debian/patches/07_remove_features_for_legacy.patch:
- Do not expose features that are not available in the legacy
  drivers.
  * debian/patches/08_add_prime_support.patch:
- Add support for PRIME switching. An additional
  tab provides support for switching between GPUs.
  This is only visible if nvidia-prime (= 0.5) is
  installed and reports that the system supports
  hybrid graphics. No hard dependency on nvidia-prime
  is therefore required (LP: #1259237).
  * debian/patches/09_do_not_complain_if_nvidia_is_missing.patch:
- Disable the warning dialog since it suggests to run
  nvidia-xconfig, which we don't need. This would also break
  PRIME.
  * debian/control.in, debian/postinst.in, debian/postrm.in,
debian/prerm.in, debian/rules:
- Drop alternatives and remove templates, as we only have
  one nvidia-settings for all the driver flavours.
  * debian/dirs, debian/install,
debian/nvidia-settings-autostart.desktop,
debian/nvidia-settings.desktop:
- Install the icon and the desktop files.
  * debian/control:
- Add ${misc:Depends}.
- Build depend on libvdpau-dev and depend on libvdpau1.
- Create transitional packages for 319, 319-updates, 313-updates,
  310, 310-updates, 304, 304-updates, experimental-304, updates.
- Remove lpia.
- Depend on screen-resolution-extra (= 0.14ubuntu2.1).
  * debian/rules:
- Pass the destdir argument in uppercase to match the variable.
- Add download-sources target.
- Clean action in rules to target clean instead of distclean.
- Do not compress .c and .mk files.

     - I was on latestest saucy then updated to Trusty.
     - The xord version after upgrade : 1:7.7+1ubuntu7

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1273403] [NEW] XPS 13 9333 Haswell Touchpad not being detected

2014-01-27 Thread Jacob Hemstad
Public bug reported:

The touchpad on my new XPS 13 Developer edition is detected as
DLL060A:00 06CB:2734 when I installed Ubuntu 13.10. The touchpad
previously worked with the default the Ubuntu 12.04 install and further
live boots of 12.04 show the touchpad still working.

There is a similar bug report that was closed found here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-
synaptics/+bug/1263319

The user said reinstalling 13.1 fixed his issues, however, I have made
multiple attempts to clean reinstall 13.1 have failed to fix the
touchpad issues.

The output of xinput list:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 666604] Re: Touchscreen unusual in multi-head system

2014-01-27 Thread matt
Bug is reproducable on current ubuntu development release!
It is also present on Kubuntu 13.10, which is what I work with at the moment.

I think this bug should get some priority, since touchscreens are pretty
common these days. The current state just makes the touchscreen of my
laptop useless, as soon as I attach an external screen an switch to
dualhead...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1273445] [NEW] Monitor does not wake on user input

2014-01-27 Thread Byron Hawkins
Public bug reported:

My display settings specify that the screen should be turned off after
one hour (in Brightness Lock). When I return to the machine after
the screen has been turned off and press keys on the keyboard, the
screen won't come back on. I have tried moving the mouse, clicking the
mouse, unplugging and replugging the USB devices, and attaching another
USB device. The OS is simply ignoring user input. The only way to get a
screen is to unplug and replug the monitor. At that point, all the input
devices work normally, and I see all my keystrokes in the login dialog.
So the OS is failing to do the turn on the screen now thing when it is
most obviously aware of user input.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1040053] Re: 10de:0df4 [Dell XPS 15 L502X] no nouveau HDMI support with dual grafic card in Ubuntu 12.04LTS with 3.2.0-29-generic

2014-01-27 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
asgard2, the fact HDMI doesn't work at all in Precise through Saucy
would be a downstream (Ubuntu) only issue.

However, the issue of low FPS and graphics artifacts in Trusty is an
upstream one. Could you please report this problem through the
appropriate channel by following the instructions _verbatim_ at
http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/Bugs/ ?

Please provide a direct URL to your bug report once you have made it so

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1272781] Re: Often system freezes

2014-01-27 Thread Muhammad Gelbana
I've uninstalled AMD's propriety drivers. I'm using the i915 intel
driver now. This is very frustrating, I thought Linux would be much more
stable and robust !

You can use xdiagnose to collect your logs and open an xorg bug like I
did. I'm not sure if the developers will still care to fix this bug
after I've removed the driver that was installed when I faced this
issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1273013] Re: fglrx 2:8.960-0ubuntu1.1: fglrx kernel module failed to build

2014-01-27 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

** Information type changed from Private Security to Public
