[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1265065] Re: Desktop freeze while drag-maximizing window

2014-02-05 Thread CirclingTheSun
I have what I assume is the same problem. This only happens on 2 of my 3
machines that run Ubuntu 13.10. Both of these use the Nvidia
proprientary driver. The one is a GTX 560 while the other is a GTX610M.
I've attached a picture of what it looks like when it freezes. The mouse
pointer sill moves but there is no response to input. I can use ctrl-
alt-f1 to switch to a terminal though and restarting lightdm restores my
computer to a working state.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1276564] [NEW] [Toshiba Satellite Pro N10] Black screen during boot

2014-02-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I helped a user set up his Toshiba Satellite Pro N10 during FOSDEM (so I
cannot easily do further tests).

Default installation of saucy from USB media, after reboot, screen turns
purple for five seconds, then black (backlight off). No logo is shown on
purple background.

Forums suggest that backlight control and kernel mode switching on this
hardware do not work together well. Disabling kernel mode switch and
removing quiet and splash options shows normal boot, but X refuses
to start (Screens present but no usable configuration).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1271558] Re: recent upgrades reset permissions in home file incorrectly

2014-02-05 Thread Susan Cragin
Hi, Maarten, it is a very small world, and good to see you. :)

This bug has been frustrating me because it's a system-stopper for me.
What's more, when I filed it, I assumed it would have dozens of
duplicates. Since it doesn't, I assume it's something specific to my
system or configuration.

The permissions get changed, I believe in an ordinary apt-get update and
apt-get dist-upgrade when the kernel is upgraded.
But I'm not sure. There may be other candidates. But my system is so simple
that I've written down everything I do, hoping that something jumps out.

1. Install plain-vanilla Ubuntu 64-bit on my Lenovo X230 Tablet with the Dvorak
keyboard
2. Enable the Ubuntu wine and libreoffice ppas
3. apt-get update
4. apt-get dist-upgrade
5. apt-get install wine git bleachbit azureus ccal le hnb
6. apt-get build-dep emacs24
7. pull the git repos for emacs and org-mode, compile without sudo and install
emacs with sudo
8. install NaturallySpeaking.
9. run bleachbit. I have enabled every feature except the following: firefox
passwords, System / cache and free disk space.

When I log on, I usually cannot put my password in until I check English
(Dvorak) in that little box in the corner, even though it is option #1 and
already selected.
Every morning I repeat steps 34, then pull the repos for emacs and org-mode,
re-make and reinstall emacs.
Then I re-run bleachbit, and re-boot.
I don't always know right when my permissions have changed because I only work
with a few files, and those are usually TXT. But usually (and this has happened
three times) after a kernel upgrade, I'll try to log on and Unity / Compiz
doesn't come up because the permissions have been re-set.

Usually I CTL-M-F1 for a prompt, change /home/susan/ to my ownership
recursively, and then it'll work again, but not for long. Once I changed
/susan to +rwx recursively, too.

Bleachbit is the obvious screwup candidate, because I run it with sudo and it
looks at a lot of files.
It also gives me this error message when it starts:
(bleachbit:2398): IBUS-WARNING **: The owner of /home/susan/.config/ibus/bus is
not root!

HTH
Susan

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1276875] [NEW] Since upgrade to xorg-server 1.15, touchpad acceleration behaves erratically

2014-02-05 Thread Michael Marley
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to xorg-server 1.15, touchpad acceleration behaves
erratically. Horizontal acceleration is much more pronounced than
vertical acceleration, which makes the cursor difficult to control.

This bug is already fixed by an upstream commit

synaptics/commit/?id=0fb59b3487d57523a03f078a2061e2ea0cacbc7c).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1200829]

2014-02-05 Thread Rocko
IMHO, this is quite an annoying regression.

Just in case it's not obvious what the effect is, there are steps to
reproduce it at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+3.0/+bug/1240957: you just
have to run two apps like gnome-terminal and nautilus and try using the
mouse wheel to scroll them. nautilus no longer scrolls with the mouse
wheel unless it has focus, whereas gnome-terminal always scrolls.
Scrolling without requiring focus has always been one of the nice things
about X desktops, and now it's inconsistent and broken.

After installing xubuntu 13.10 on old computer with Intel 845G graphics

for me it would be impossible to change this if someone wouldn't help.
After creating custom xorg.conf file it became look fine - in 24 bit.
So, if it could be, I think, that must be the default. Also in comments
in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/1173649 it seems that default 15/16 bit instead of 24 is not
the best choice. People doesn't understand why 15/16 is used instead of
24. I also doesn't see much difference, except the fact that 15/16 looks
horrible.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1271483] Re: No display with radeon driver for Display Port on [AMD Radeon HD 8490][1002:6771]

2014-02-05 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
** Description changed:

  CID: 201303-13015 Dell Optiplex XE2

There is one DP port and one DVI port on this video card.
DVI video output works fine, but DP does not.

  Steps:
  1. Boot with DVI port plugged, install 12.04.3 + update (3.8.0-35)
  2. Try to boot with DP port or hot plug the DP cable

  Expected result:
  * DP port video should work.

  Actual result:
- * No video signal detected, monitor will enter idle mode.
+ * The big Dell logo will shows up, then the purple screen without any text,
finally no video signal detected, monitor will enter idle mode.

  Note:
- DP port video output could work with fglrx installed, but the Unsupported
Hardware watermark issue (bug 1224897) with fglrx will make both this bug and
that one become blockers.
+ * If you use a HDMI-DP adapter, it works.
+ * DP port video output could work with fglrx installed, but the Unsupported
Hardware watermark issue (bug 1224897) with fglrx will make both this bug and
that one become blockers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1240957]

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1144232] Re: Applications occasionally stop refreshing the window, with NVidia Graphics

2014-02-05 Thread David Pérez
I'm using Kubuntu 13.10, and I observe exactly the described behaviour.
With KUbuntu 13.04, 12.10 and previous ones it didn't happen to me.

Is there any workaround, apart from restarting Chrome?

I have several Chrome windows (with different profile each one), and
when one window stops refreshing, the other ones opperate normally.
