Do you have any reason to believe that you have the same problem? This
one was bisected to commit 4f6029da58ba9204c98e33f4f3737fe085c87a6f
which appeared in v3.8 (which means that 3.7.x should all be fine).

Of course you have the additional problem of having a nva8 (this bug has
nv98 hw users, although that doesn't exclude you from having the same
issue -- the bisected commit was fairly generic), which is still
unstable for some users, but was even more unstable in earlier kernels.
As for not seeing a PAGE_NOT_PRESENT -- are you sure that the kernels in
question had code to emit the error in the first place?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1111884]

2014-02-07 Thread Brian Norris
I've been following this ticket and attempting to poke around a bit. I
just tested my hardware with various points in the 3.6, 3.7, and 3.7-rc
kernels, and all of those still gave me a non-responsive screen with
messages like the following after resume. e.g., on Linux 3.6:

[ 161.192867] [drm] nouveau :01:00.0: Failed to idle channel 2.
[ 164.355897] [drm] nouveau :01:00.0: Failed to idle channel 4.

or on Linux 3.7.9:

[ 336.337207] nouveau E[3134] failed to idle channel 0x

None of these builds give me a PAGE_NOT_PRESENT error, though. This
makes it hard to bisect, as I can't find any working point to test...

This happens in response to the GPU hanging. X could perhaps handle this
a little more gracefully (e.g. by reporting "GPU hung, committing
suicide"), but the real issue is that the GPU is hanging on resume... Do
you have a dmesg after resuming?

It'd also be worthwhile testing this out with a fresh kernel, e.g.
3.13.2, as this issue may have gotten fixed in the meanwhile.

Oh, I didn't notice you were already running 3.13 -- I highly doubt
3.13.x would help. 3.14-rc1 MIGHT but that's a low chance.

An interesting observation is that your BSP engine refuses MMIO writes
when coming back from sleep, but it was fine on original boot. We're
probably not initializing something we should be... :( [The BSP engine
in itself isn't that important -- it's for h264 decoding, but it's an
unfortunate indicator.]

And then you end up with a bunch of

0x0020ea1200 on channel 0xfc33 [compiz[2007]] PGRAPH/DISPATCH/M2M_IN

Which eventually kill X as well.

It's not super-clear from your report, but did this work prior to Ubuntu
13.04? If so, can you figure out what kernel version you were using back
when it did work?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1277343] Re: xmir crashes on startup

2014-02-07 Thread Stephen Cradock
OK - sounds as if there is a problem - hope it gets fixed soon.

I tried downgrading to the previous versions of xserver-xorg-xmir and
xserver-xorg-core (2:1.15.0-1ubuntu2), but no help.

Then I removed ubuntu-desktop-xmir (and xserver-xorg-xmir) and all is
well again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1275064] Re: cairo-dock crashed with SIGSEGV

2014-02-07 Thread Matthieu Baerts
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1270491 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1270491

Hello and thank you for this bug report!

I also have this crash when quitting the dock. How did you have this
crash? According to the stacktrace, I guess it's also when quitting the
dock. Can you confirm that?

As I didn't have this crash with Mesa 9, I guess it's a regression in
Mesa 10.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 971018] Re: Auto-hide Unity Launcher will not reveal when mouse pushed to left side in VirtualBox or VMware

2014-02-07 Thread Charlie Chrisman
I want to add that this problematic behavior exists with Parallels
Desktop virtualization software as well.

This is running Ubuntu 13.10 with latest updates in full screen on a
Apple MacBook Pro with OS X 10.9.1 and Parallels Desktop 9.0.24172
(latest update as of writing).

I at least can press the command key and bring up the launcher search
window which gives me access to the launcher, but the auto-hide reveal
with mouse on left edge of screen function doesn't work.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1205643] Re: VIA P4M800 graphics broken in Lubuntu/Xubuntu Saucy & 12.04.4 candidate

Thank you very much, Erick! I've read also your past posts here, so now
I have "only" to learn if it's possible to 'downgrade' my X-stack

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1205643] Re: VIA P4M800 graphics broken in Lubuntu/Xubuntu Saucy & 12.04.4 candidate

2014-02-07 Thread Erick Brunzell
@ Andrea,

Yes, 12.04.4 ships with the Saucy Hardware Enablement Stack:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack

So those images won't work with VIA P4M800 graphics. I prefer using the
archived 12.04.1 images because I have too many computers spread out
over too large of an area and the original Precise kernel and X-stack
is supported until April 2017 whereas the later point releases will
require either upgrading to Trusty, or to the Trusty HWE stack by August
2014.

Does this affect also "our" bug?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1274779]

2014-02-07 Thread Enrico-tagliavini
(In reply to comment #20)
> Enrico, if you have the opportunity can you try Ville's patch from comment 8?

Hi Chris, I compiled and run the 3.13.1 kernel with named patch applied.
For now everything is ok, but I still don't yell to victory. This bug is
fairly hard to reproduce in my case. Usually it never happen more then
once or twice a day so a single day without a crash can be a simple
statistical fluctuation. I'll report back on Monday. As I said it
happens mostly (only?) when I use ny dual monitor setup, and during the
weekend I don't use it.

Cross your fingers!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1277559] [NEW] Unknown chipset

2014-02-07 Thread Gerhard Burger
Public bug reported:

I am trying to install Ubuntu on a new laptop and it's giving me a headache :P
On boot I get the message:

[ 9.128711] nouveau E [ DEVICE] [:01:00.0] unknown chipset, 0x108120a1

...
[ 9.128964] nouveau: probe of :01:00.0 failed with -22

After which it boots in some very weird green mode, where the pixels are
very visible.

My system:

Toshiba Satellite L70-A-12W (with Geforce GT 740M with Optimus support)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1276340] Re: 13.101 on Precise-updates broken on RS880 with HDMI

2014-02-07 Thread Neale Upstone
It occurred to me to point out what may not be obvious. After 8.960,
AMD split Catalyst between to anything 4xxx and earlier being legacy
(which is not v nice to those with an HP dv7 both 4xxx and 5xxx). A
quick search of "fglrx legacy" shows up lots of resulting chaos.

I haven't given 13.x Ubuntu releases a go on this hardware, but I
suspect there needs to be something around to ensure that the correct
fglrx is active.
