I just > tested my hardware with various points in the 3.6, 3.7, and 3.7-rc kernels, > and all of those still gave me a non-responsive screen with messages like > the following after resume. e.g., on Linux 3.6: Do you have any reason to believe that you have the same problem? This one was bisected to commit 4f6029da58ba9204c98e33f4f3737fe085c87a6f which appeared in v3.8 (which means that 3.7.x should all be fine). Of course you have the additional problem of having a nva8 (this bug has nv98 hw users, although that doesn't exclude you from having the same issue -- the bisected commit was fairly generic), which is still unstable for some users, but was even more unstable in earlier kernels. As for not seeing a PAGE_NOT_PRESENT -- are you sure that the kernels in question had code to emit the error in the first place? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/884 Title: 10de:0611 nouveau fails at suspend/resume - PAGE_NOT_PRESENT To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/884/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I've been following this ticket and attempting to poke around a bit. I just tested my hardware with various points in the 3.6, 3.7, and 3.7-rc kernels, and all of those still gave me a non-responsive screen with messages like the following after resume. e.g., on Linux 3.6: [ 161.192867] [drm] nouveau :01:00.0: Failed to idle channel 2. [ 164.355897] [drm] nouveau :01:00.0: Failed to idle channel 4. or on Linux 3.7.9: [ 336.337207] nouveau E[3134] failed to idle channel 0x None of these builds give me a PAGE_NOT_PRESENT error, though. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1205643] Re: VIA P4M800 graphics broken in Lubuntu/Xubuntu Saucy & 12.04.4 candidate
@ Andrea, Yes, 12.04.4 ships with the Saucy Hardware Enablement Stack: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack So those images won't work with VIA P4M800 graphics. I prefer using the archived 12.04.1 images because I have too many computers spread out over too large of an area and the original Precise kernel and X-stack is supported until April 2017 whereas the later point releases will require either upgrading to Trusty, or to the Trusty HWE stack by August 2014. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1205643 Title: VIA P4M800 graphics broken in Lubuntu/Xubuntu Saucy & 12.04.4 candidate To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome/+bug/1205643/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1276340] Re: 13.101 on Precise-updates broken on RS880 with HDMI
It occurred to me to point out what may not be obvious. After 8.960, AMD split Catalyst between to anything 4xxx and earlier being legacy (which is not v nice to those with an HP dv7 both 4xxx and 5xxx). A quick search of "fglrx legacy" shows up lots of resulting chaos. I haven't given 13.x Ubuntu releases a go on this hardware, but I suspect there needs to be something around to ensure that the correct fglrx is active. ** Summary changed: - 13.101 on Precise-updates broken on RS880 with HDMI + 13.101 on Precise-updates broken on RS880 (HD4) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1276340 Title: 13.101 on Precise-updates broken on RS880 (HD4) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1276340/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
