[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1278737] Re: Upgrade to trusty fails from precise backported enablement stacks

2014-02-11 Thread Martin Pitt
Tested with 3:1~ppa7 now. On apt-get update you now get several dozen
warnings:

W: Unknown Multi-Arch type 'no' for package 'libdrm-dev-lts-quantal'
W: Unknown Multi-Arch type 'no' for package 'xserver-common-lts-quantal'

You probably meant "Multiarch: same"?

Other than that these have exactly the same weirdness for the -geode
driver than ~ppa5, but as this is only cosmetical it shouldn't matter.
But can you please fix the Multiarch field again?

Thanks!

2014-02-11 Thread Billy McCarty
Have managed to work around this.
Open Synaptic Package Manager
Remove fglrx 2:13.101-0ubuntu0.0.1
Remove fglrx-amdcccle 2:13.101-0ubuntu0.0.1
Open Update Manager and add fglrx and fglrx-amdcccle to the ignore list
Open terminal
enter
sudo apt-get install fglrx=2:8.960-0ubuntu1
sudo apt-get install fglrx-amdcccle=2:8.960-0ubuntu1
close all windows and restart computer

NOTE!
This worked for me on my Toshiba Satellite with ATI 3100 running Linux Mint 13
Xfce. I make no promise as to working or even being safe for any other
computer. All my 3D apps as well as AMD Catalyst Control Center are again
working.

2014-02-11 Thread mavosaure
** Description changed:

  [Updated description]
+
Update of the fglrx-driver (version 2:13.101-0ubuntu0.0.1 on 2014-02-03)
brought by update-manager (through ubuntu-updates repos) on Precise doesn't
work on some "legacy" devices.
The main symptom is the fallback to unity-2D.
+
+ This bug seems target only Precise with no LTS Enablement Stack activated, in
other words with Linux 3.2.x and XServer 7.6.
+ ==> please : confirm or infirm using:
+ uname -rm
+ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg

It may be in relation with #1058040, about non-support for Radeon [Mobility]
HD 2xxx, 3xxx, 4xxx on Ubuntu 12.10 and higher.

- 3) I expected that the driver will :
+ 3) I expected that the driver :
   - set up
   - work

  4) It did'nt work :
   - Ubuntu was very slow
-  - Unity was in lo-fi
+  - Unity fall in Unity-2d mode
   - when I taped CTRL+SUPER, desktops appears blue
   - fglrx-amdcccle failed
   - fans were turning at a high speed
+ - lots of warning messages as described bellow
+
+ 5) Workaround
+ I had to downgrade manually the driver to the old 8.960, which works without
problem.
+ You could do it using Synaptics our using the CLI
+
+ I tried to do an "apt-get remove fglrx fglrx-amdcccle" but apt-get gaves me
fglrx-updates in replacement , with the same issues. I experimented
fglrx-update some months (a year?) ago with similar problems, but at that time
it was a conscient experimentation.
+ The 13.101-0ubuntu0.0.1 could maybe stay in fglrx-updates, and no fglrx ?

  5) Workaround
I had to downgrade manually the driver to the old 8.960 which works without
problem.

I tried to do an "apt-get remove fglrx fglrx-amdcccle" but apt-get gaves me
fglrx-updates in replacement , with the same issues. I experimented
fglrx-update some months (a year?) ago with similar problems, but at that time
it was a conscient experimentation.
The 13.101-0ubuntu0.0.1 could maybe stay in fglrx-updates, and no fglrx ?

#17 @Colin Law (about Trusty)

Thanks for the report, but it's a different problem for Trusty.

You can't use fglrx-installer on Radon HD [Mobility] 2000-3000-4000
series with Ubuntu ≥ 12.10 out of the box.

See the bug #1058040 : there are workarounds which are explained there
(downgrade Xorg server using a PPA) but I think there's not the the good
place to deal with it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1278737] Re: Upgrade to trusty fails from precise backported enablement stacks

2014-02-11 Thread Martin Pitt
Tests with 3:1~ppa5, the previous two problems are now gone. This new
one appeared now, presumably due to some multi-arch confusion? I tested
lts-{quantal,raring,saucy} → trusty, same error on all of them:

The following packages have been kept back:
  xserver-xorg-video-geode-lts-quantal:i386

Investigating (0) xserver-xorg-video-geode [ i386 ] < none -> 2.11.15-2 > (
universe/x11 )
Broken xserver-xorg-video-geode:i386 Depends on xorg-video-abi-15 [ i386 ] <
none > ( none )
  Considering xserver-xorg-core:i386 1 as a solution to
xserver-xorg-video-geode:i386 1
Holding Back xserver-xorg-video-geode:i386 rather than change
xorg-video-abi-15:i386

It should be noted that the geode driver (neither the original precise
one, nor the -lts-* backport) is installed before the upgrade.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1155819] Re: Plugging in Logitech G930 USB headset breaks mouse click behaviour

2014-02-11 Thread DiegoRivera
The problem has been narrowed down to when the headset is actually
charging - either through to the computer's USB ports or via a wall-
socket charger (any micro-USB charger with 0.5A output will suffice).

When the headset is unplugged (i.e. fully wireless), everything works
fine. But when the headset is plugged in, the symptoms emerge. I will
provide further information later today after I make some time to
investigate more fully.

2014-02-11 Thread Barry Drake
I've put that in and am trying it. Thanks. For the record, gdm is not
istalled in Trusty, so you need to do sudo apt-get install gdm
In my case, I was given the option to make gdm the default during installation.
If not, you need to edit /etc/X11/default-display-manager after installing gdm

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1278871] [NEW] please consider making libgl1-mesa-dri to not be pulled into ubuntu-touch seed

2014-02-11 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Public bug reported:

>From mesa package: libgbm1 depends on libgl1-mesa-dri

>From qtdeclarative-opensource-src: qtdeclarative5-qtquick2-plugin
depends on libgl1-mesa-dri

Mesa is available on our default installations by virtue of
ubuntu-drivers-common, seeds or manual package selection.
Above two dependencies, result in nvidia & radion packages pulled into
ubuntu-touch seed which is undesired.

Talking on IRC mlankhorst provided a solution, which i'd like to try out:
 depend on libgl1-mesa-dri | libgl1
and include libhybris first so libgl1-mesa-dri doesn't end up
being installed

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1278737] Re: Upgrade to trusty fails from precise backported enablement stacks

2014-02-11 Thread Martin Pitt
With https://launchpad.net/~canonical-x/+archive/x-staging it looks much
better, but there are still some problems:

Investigating (0) xserver-xorg-glamoregl-lts-saucy [ amd64 ] <
0.5.1-0ubuntu4.2~precise2 -> 3:1~ppa2 > ( oldlibs )
Broken xserver-xorg-glamoregl-lts-saucy:amd64 Depends on
xserver-xorg-video-glamoregl [ amd64 ] < none -> 0.6.0-0ubuntu3 > ( x11 )
  Considering xserver-xorg-video-glamoregl:amd64 3 as a solution to
xserver-xorg-glamoregl-lts-saucy:amd64 -1
Holding Back xserver-xorg-glamoregl-lts-saucy:amd64 rather than change
xserver-xorg-video-glamoregl:amd64

Investigating (0) libxatracker1-lts-saucy [ amd64 ] < 9.2.1-1ubuntu3~precise1
-> 3:1~ppa2 > ( oldlibs )
Broken libxatracker1-lts-saucy:amd64 Depends on libxatracker1 [ amd64 ] < none
> ( none )
  Considering libxatracker1-lts-saucy:amd64 -1 as a solution to
libxatracker1-lts-saucy:amd64 -1
Holding Back libxatracker1-lts-saucy:amd64 rather than change
libxatracker1:amd64

This can be reproduced really fast without an actual dist-upgrade by
booting the current 12.04.4 live system, moving apt sources to trusty,
enabling the PPA, and doing

  sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -o Debug::pkgProblemResolver=true

You will see that these two packages (xserver-xorg-glamoregl-lts-saucy
and libxatracker1-lts-saucy) are held back instead of upgraded (no need
to actually do the upgrade). I'm not entirely sure how to interpret this
or how it can be fixed, though. Michael Vogt might have an idea.

Thanks, I committed the e-d-s fix to bzr so it should be in the next
upload. Unsubscribing sponsors since there's nothing left here to
sponsor.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1228095] Re: Enable default options for non-seat0 seats (no need of systemd-multi-seat-x wrapper)

2014-02-11 Thread Laércio de Sousa
Hi guys!

As I reported some months ago, my first patch was included in Xorg-
server upstream master git branch:

xserver: enable InputClass option "GrabDevice" by default for non-seat0 seats
(#69478)
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?id=c73c36b537f996574628e69681833ea37dec2b6e

Now I'm pleased to annouce that my second patch was also upstreamed:

xfree86: Keep a non-seat0 X server from touching VTs (#71258)
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?id=46cf2a60934076bf568062eb83121ce90b6ff596

With these 2 patches, xorg-server no longer needs systemd-multi-seat-x wrapper.
Moreover, there's no need to neither pass -sharevts option nor enabling option
"DontVTSwitch" to non-seat0 X servers anymore.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1274779]

2014-02-11 Thread Daniel-ffwll
Assigning to Ville so he can submit the patch. To avoid bikeshedding
this to death: I prefer if we add a new intel_ring_begin_cacheline_safe
or so which encapsulates the logic. And obviously puts a WARN_ON if the
requested length is bigger than 1 cachline ;-)
