[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1288301] [NEW] NVIDIA Grapics Card seemingly not present
Public bug reported: I'm using an Acer Aspire V5-573G, which should come with an NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M - 4 GB DDR3 . However, it doesn't show under additional drivers and a request in the terminal only shows an intel chipset. I am no technician and very new to Ubuntu, so any kind of help would be appreciated. This is not a bug. You have a hybrid/Optimus GPU configuration and you can't install the nvidia driver directly on such a system because it would break the intel 3D driver. Hi Daniel, tks for your swift reply. Read that article already suspecting something of the kind. So, installing Bumblebee should clear the issue, even if I have no switching option in my BIOS? Tks! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1286162] Re: [gm45] False GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x89800000
FYI, I reported a bug that was just marked a dupe of this one that did not require upstart-app-launch but used aa-exec-click instead. I wonder if it has to do with the environment since aa-exec-click and upstart- app-launch will setup quite a bit of the environment. When launching my blabble app (available in the app store), the following environment is set up by aa-exec-click (I ommitted the env vars that aa-exec-click doesn't set): APP_ID='com.ubuntu.developer.jdstrand.blabble_blabble_0.2.1' LD_LIBRARY_PATH='/opt/click.ubuntu.com/.click/users/jamie/com.ubuntu.developer.jdstrand.blabble/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu' PATH='/opt/click.ubuntu.com/.click/users/jamie/com.ubuntu.developer.jdstrand.blabble/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/bin:/opt/click.ubuntu.com/.click/users/jamie/com.ubuntu.developer.jdstrand.blabble:/home/jamie/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games:/usr/local/games:/sbin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/sbin' QML2_IMPORT_PATH='/opt/click.ubuntu.com/.click/users/jamie/com.ubuntu.developer.jdstrand.blabble/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu' TMPDIR='/run/user/1000/confined/com.ubuntu.developer.jdstrand.blabble' UBUNTU_APPLICATION_ISOLATION='1' XDG_CACHE_HOME=/home/jamie/.cache XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=/etc/xdg/xdg-ubuntu:/usr/share/upstart/xdg:/etc/xdg XDG_CONFIG_HOME=/home/jamie/.config XDG_DATA_DIRS='/opt/click.ubuntu.com/.click/users/jamie/com.ubuntu.developer.jdstrand.blabble:/usr/share/ubuntu:/usr/share/gnome:/usr/local/share/:/usr/share/' XDG_DATA_HOME=/home/jamie/.local/share XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=/run/user/1000 __GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_PATH='/home/jamie/.cache/com.ubuntu.developer.jdstrand.blabble' To reproduce what I did: 1. grab some click app and install it on the desktop with 'sudo click install --user=$user click package 2. adjust /usr/bin/aa-exec-click to do 'set /tmp/foo' just before the call to aa-exec 3. cd to the app directory (ie, what is in Path= in the ~/.local/share/applications/app.desktop 4. run aa-exec-click from this directory. Eg: aa-exec-click -p com.ubuntu.developer.jdstrand.blabble_blabble_0.2.1 -- qmlscene blabble.qml If it is indeed something in the environment, I suggest copying /usr/bin /aa-exec-click somewhere and modifying it for debugging/triaging. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1286162 Title: [gm45] False GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x8980 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1286162/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1288482] [NEW] Graphics freezing
Public bug reported: My symptoms are similar to bug #1184451; I reported this on that thread and was advised to start a separate thread... Following update from XUbuntu 12.04 to 13.10, I have been getting frequent graphics freezes in Minecraft, occasionally in Chrome. Sometimes the mouse moves with everything else on the screen frozen; sometimes the mouse is frozen too. Sometimes I can get to terminal with CTR-ALT-F6, sometimes not. CPU temp is typically in the range of 45C-50C (typical idle temp is 32C). My CPU is Sandy Bridge Celeron G540, with no separate GPU; motherboard is Biostar H77MU3. Also, I am not sure if this is related, when I boot the computer I get a message stating there is a system error detected but apport always crashes. /var/log/kern.log contains this error: [ 3280.805274] ACPI Error: [DSSP] Namespace lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND (20130517/psargs-359) [ 3280.805278] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_SB_.PCI0.SAT0.CHN0.DRV0._GTF] (Node 88011924d960), AE_NOT_FOUND (20130517/psparse-536) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.10 Package: xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu6 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.11.0-17.31-generic 3.11.10.3 Uname: Linux 3.11.0-17-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.12.5-0ubuntu2.2 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: None Date: Wed Mar 5 19:01:06 2014 DistUpgraded: 2014-02-16 07:15:16,909 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistroCodename: saucy DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0102] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Biostar Microtech Int'l Corp Device [1565:110f] InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-01-14 (50 days ago) InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 12.04.3 LTS Precise Pangolin - Release amd64 (20130820) MachineType: BIOSTAR Group H77MU3 MarkForUpload: True ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.11.0-17-generic root=UUID=b6f53d0f-64d5-4400-85b2-4e0ccaef90fb ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xorg UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to saucy on 2014-02-16 (17 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 02/24/2012 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: 4.6.5 dmi.board.asset.tag: None dmi.board.name: H77MU3 dmi.board.vendor: BIOSTAR Group dmi.board.version: 6.0 dmi.chassis.asset.tag: None dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.chassis.vendor: BIOSTAR Group dmi.chassis.version: 6.0 dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr4.6.5:bd02/24/2012:svnBIOSTARGroup:pnH77MU3:pvr6.0:rvnBIOSTARGroup:rnH77MU3:rvr6.0:cvnBIOSTARGroup:ct3:cvr6.0: dmi.product.name: H77MU3 dmi.product.version: 6.0 dmi.sys.vendor: BIOSTAR Group version.compiz: compiz N/A version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.46-1ubuntu1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 9.2.1-1ubuntu3 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 9.2.1-1ubuntu3 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.14.5-1ubuntu2~saucy1 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.7.3-0ubuntu3.1 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.2.0-0ubuntu10 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.904-0ubuntu2.1 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.9-2ubuntu1 xserver.bootTime: Wed Mar 5 12:13:50 2014 xserver.configfile: default xserver.devices: inputPower Button KEYBOARD, id 6 inputVideo BusKEYBOARD, id 7 inputPower Button KEYBOARD, id 8 inputLogitech Unifying Device.
