[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1243621] Re: AMD Radeon 6480G[1002:9648] No display after resume from suspend with radeon driver

2014-03-07 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Xorg log attached.
Since brightness control issue (bug 1243508) is now resolved.
I will remove the blocker tags.

** Tags removed: blocks-hwcert blocks-hwcert-enablement

** Description changed:

CID: 201107-8258 Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E525

With the open-source radeon driver, there is no display after resume from
suspend.
But the system still working, I could open a terminal and reboot the laptop
with sudo reboot.

- There is no such problem with proprietary drivers,
- but the brightness control issue (bug 1243508) will make both of these two
bugs become a blocker

Can Peter Yildirim, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't
been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
 http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1284134] Re: Xorg crash

2014-03-07 Thread Barry Warsaw
I've narrowed it down to some interaction between Terminal and Emacs 24.
You can discount Claws and Gnome Do.

I can reproduce this every time with this recipe:

* reboot
* login
* hit Alt to bring up the launcher
* start up a Terminal
* In the Terminal, enter emacs -q to bring up a vanilla Emacs 24
* Go back to the Terminal and maximize it (i.e. hit the third button from the
left in the menu bar, the square)
* Go to the global menu bar and double click as if de-maximizing the Terminal
* X crashes

FWIW, neither gnome-terminal nor emacs24 have been updated in a long
while, so this is clearly a regression in the X stack somewhere.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1289410] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2014-03-07 Thread Barry Warsaw
Public bug reported:

This may be a kernel bug, and I'll add a bug task for that.

Linux anarchist 3.13.0-15-generic #35-Ubuntu SMP Mon Mar 3 15:54:59 UTC 2014
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

With this kernel, I can log in just fine. With -16 however, after I
type my password, the screen flashes but my desktop never comes up.
I've left it like this for a few hours and it's a true hang on login.
However, I *can* ssh into the machine, which is how I reboot it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1284134] Re: Xorg crash

2014-03-07 Thread Barry Warsaw
More fun facts:

If, after you start up emacs -q, you immediate quit it, the recipe in #5
still crashes X.

Starting non-X emacs (e.g. `emacs -nw` in a terminal) does not crash X.

Starting multiple terminals does not crash X.

I'm going to try to rebuild Emacs against the current Trusty package set
and see if that can provoke the problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 795920]

2014-03-07 Thread Dadreggors
I created bug #42867 which is now marked as a duplicate of this bug. I
am glad to see some more movement on this. My laptop (HP Pavilion G6) as
a tiny LED above the mouse pad as well. It is between the mouse pad and
the keyboard.

Neither work in all versions of Fedora I have tested it on (Fedora 16
17).

The mouse pad works as expected, you just can't turn it on or off via
the hot spot button at the top left corner of the mouse pad.

The version of the synaptics driver I currently have installed is:

xorg-x11-drv-synaptics-1.6.2-2.fc17.x86_64

Also, below is the hardware information I posted in the original bug I created
in case it helps.

Hardware info:
My laptop is an HP Pavilion G6 (G6-1B50US).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1184451] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze while Normal OS activites

2014-03-07 Thread Eric Schneider
In case it helps... I'm too lazy to submit a new bug report, sorry...

Synopsis: For me it seems to have been the nvidia-319 driver. No hangs
since changing to nvidia-331 (over a week now).

Symptoms: X hangs, reporting 100% CPU utilization. System is
responsive, can ssh in for diagnostics.

Diagnostic Summary: Profiled system, Xorg seems to get stuck in the
nvidia drivers. See notes below for more details.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1284134] Re: Xorg crash

2014-03-07 Thread Barry Warsaw
Problem still exhibits with a rebuild of emacs24. I'm still going to
upload a new Debian merge of emacs24 even though it doesn't fix this
problem. Makes some sense though: it should never be possible for an
application to crash X (or cause some data corruption just by running
that allows some other application to crash X ;).
