[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1242259] Re: Thinkpad x1 Volume up down and mute keys stopped working after upgrade to Ubuntu 13.10

2014-03-10 Thread harrychillboy
@Hai NGUYEN VAN : did you try commnds like
* Increase volume : /usr/bin/pactl set-sink-volume 0 -- +20%
* Decrease volume : /usr/bin/pactl set-sink-volume 0 -- -20%
* Mute : /usr/bin/pactl set-sink-mute 0 toggle

If they work then you can create a shortcut yourself.
If these do not wotk then the issue might be in your sound settings / modules
loaded.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1290232] [NEW] kubuntu 14.04: graphics driver not working properly

2014-03-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Did the upgrade from 13.10 to 14.04 yesterday (9-mar-2014). After that,
desktop behaviour was strange. I realized that the graphics driver chose the
strange resolution for both my display (as DVI-0, std resolution = 1680x1050)
and the tv screen on VGA-0 (std resolution = 1920x1080). When i turn on the tv
set, graphics driver switches to resoltion 1280x1024.
It is not possible to set the position relatively to each other. It always says
'absolute'. One time it was not possible to 'de-unify' the screens. So i
experience a lot of strange behaviour.
My graphics card is a Radeon 3100.
I think base problem is, that the ati-driver cannot be loaded. fglrx driver,
can't be loaded, either. But fglrx quit support for my card some time ago.
Until 13.04 the radeon driver was working very fine.

2014-03-10 Thread Oleg Moiseichuk
I can confirm that upgrading xkb-data package to version 2.5-1ubuntu1.5
in LTS 12.04.4 doesn't resolve the problem. When I disable the mentioned
fix in ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css (F10 is disabled in terminal keyboard
combinations), F10 press still opens context menu as if Shift-F10 was
pressed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1290232] Re: kubuntu 14.04: graphics driver not working properly

2014-03-10 Thread Hans-Peter
Hi Jörg,

I removed the ati-driver and did a fresh install. After reboot the
driver was working well (Blur effect was on, for example). When I
plugged the TV screen into the card, resolution somehow messed up, but I
was able to start the Display Configuration in System Settings. I did
all the adjustments and applied them. The accept dialog did not accept
anything and the screen was frozen. It did not revert to the old
settings, too. So I killed the X process and after that, it came up
nicely and this is what I have till now. If you want to, I'll keep an
eye on iy and report into this bug.

regards,
Hans-Peter

BTW: the upgrade to 14.04 was not smooth. It stalled and I had to issue
dpkg --configure all manually. Maybe the graphics driver thing is a
result of this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1284134] Re: Xorg crash

2014-03-10 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
I've created a clean vm with the trusty daily image using vmware workstation.
I've installed emacs24.3+1-2ubuntu1 and tried running it with emacs -q. It
opens a separate X window which doesn't crash.

In one of my attempts I managed to make it crash, but I can't reproduce
it in any reliable way.

Can you post the steps that get you a reliable crash?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1290342] [NEW] Frequent System Hangs

2014-03-10 Thread Bill Turner, wb4alm
Public bug reported:

bill@WB4ALM-07:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 13.10
Release:13.10
bill@WB4ALM-07:~$apt-cache policy pkgname
N: Unable to locate package pkgname

I get frequent system hangs...
...sometime xorg restarts itself, many times it does not.

Usually I have no keyboard or mouse clicks when it hangs. Sometimes I
can move the cursor around the screen, but am unable to click on
anything.

If I have an active (95 chars by 45 lines) terminal, then it will
usually resize the terminal to the default size (80 chars by 24 lines).

It does not seem to matter what application software is running. I have
seen the problem occur with firefox, system monitor, terminal sessions
running REXX scripts, gedit, and th file manager.

It does not seem to have an real pattern that I have been able to
discover other than SIGABRT eventually showing up in various other
routines such as GNOME.

My display card is a dual display 8600GTS with 512M onboard. I have been
using that card since I first started with Ubuntu 8-04 and 10-04 and it
worked exceeding well until I upgraded to 12-04 (12-04, 12-10, 13-04,
14-10)

When I first instralled the card I was able to support 4 monitors. One monitor
on one port and the other three on the second port connected thru a
Tripple-togo external adapter from Matrix. the two seperate sets of monitors
were run as separate x-windows
and I was very, very happy with that setup.

under 12-04 and all successor versions, the seprate x-server mechanism
has NOT functioned - resulting in my removal of the tripple-to-go
adapter and its three monitors from this system.

I now only run a single monitor, and am so severly plaged with XORG
failures, that I can no longer use this system as part of my Ham Radio
setup, as the system is too unstable to use in digital communications.

Please note, ALL system failures have been transmitted to UBUNTU for the
past four years.

At Barry's request I've tried to reproduce the steps given in comment
#5.

Caveat: If I type 'alt' and enter 'terminal' I get no completion to
launch the terminal, so for the test I launched it using the sidebar.

Having done so, launching 'emacs -q ' from the terminal and doing the
maximize and minimize steps as stated do not crash X.

I'm running VMWare Version 6.0.2 (1398658) on the latest Mavericks.

My version of Trusty is up-to-date but 'apt-get upgrade' shows held-back
packages. I'm running:

Linux trusty64 3.13.0-8-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Tue Feb 11 17:55:27 UTC
2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1284134] Re: Xorg crash

2014-03-10 Thread Barry Warsaw
It's quite easy and reproducible to crash. Here are the steps:

* Log in
* Hit Alt to bring up the launcher
* Start up gnome-terminal
* In the terminal, type `emacs -q`
* In Emacs 24, hit `Ctrl-x Ctrl-c RET` to quit Emacs.
* Go back to the terminal and double click on its menu bar to globally maximize
the window
* Go to the global menu bar and double click on it to de-maximize the terminal

At this point, X crashes every time.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1284134] Re: Xorg crash

2014-03-10 Thread Barry Warsaw
One other note: I am fully dist-upgraded on Trusty (no held back
packages), but I cannot run the 3.13.0-16-generic #36 kernel because
that exhibits the log in freeze of LP: #1289410. So at grub select
Advanced options for Ubuntu and boot the 3.13.0-15.generic kernel.
This allows me to log in and reproduce the bug.

@Brad thanks for trying to reproduce. Note that when I hit Alt to bring
up the launcher, just type enough of Terminal to see it in
Applications. Then I use the arrow keys to select the Terminal. I
actually don't think it matters *how* gnome-terminal is started though.
Same thing happens if you start it with Gnome Do. I just wanted to
eliminate one non-standard package from the mix.

The problem clearly is that even just starting Emacs 24 corrupts
something in X. Emacs doesn't even have to be running when you crash X,
hence the suggestion to start it and then immediately kill it before
triggering the bug.

Also @Brad: you could take a disk snapshot, then dist-upgrade away your
held packages. It would then be easy to restore the disk snapshot if
things break for you.

Note too that there are certainly other surprising ways to crash X, it's
just that the recipe in #13 is completely reproducible every time.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1290400] [NEW] External screen turns off randomly

2014-03-10 Thread Andreas Vinsander
Public bug reported:

My external DVI connected monitor turns off randomly. For some reason it
can be woken up again by opening the System Settings application. I
have not been able to figure out what triggers it to turn off. When I
ran the 'ubuntu-bug xorg' to report this bug the problem was triggered
(coincidence or not?).

If my memory serves me right this started to happen after upgrading to
Ubuntu 13.04 (or 13.10)... meaning I have lived with this quite a while.
I thought I was alone until I spotted Bug 1239186, which describes the
same (or very similar) problem.

I was asked (by Chris Penalver) to report this as a separate bug when I
added a comment in Bug 1239186.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1289946] Re: Nvidia-prime, Nvidia card turned on(performance) but settings manager shows intel is selected. Can't switch. Laptop heats like hell.

2014-03-10 Thread Chris Wilson
In the system you have, it doesn't appear to be switchable - some
outputs are only controlled by Intel, some outputs are only controlled
by nvidia. If you want to see anything on the panel, you need to enable
Intel. As the igfx is also the one used by the BIOS, it is declared the
primary GPU and so will always be active.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1289946] Re: Nvidia-prime, Nvidia card turned on(performance) but settings manager shows intel is selected. Can't switch. Laptop heats like hell.

2014-03-10 Thread Oláh Balázs
It has worked until the latest update. It was switchable. Worked like a
charm.

When I selected Intel, my laptop was super cool, and could run from battery for
7-8-9 hours.
When I selected Nvidia, it was hotter, but I could play windows games through
wine with high FPS.

Now after latest kernel update I get an error if I try to switch using
nvidia-settings. And laptop heats. Can only run 2 hours from battery.

nvidia-settings -q screens -q gpus -q framelocks -q vcs -q gvis -q fans

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1103162] Re: after successful login got black screen, tty works

2014-03-10 Thread Attila Pados
Sorry for lack of answer, i had little free time recently.

I have just upgraded to Xubuntu 13.10 about a month ago, and i tested the above
error, and found it is still happening.
Since i have a workaround now (switch in both monitors before startup,) i can
live with it. Anyone finds this issue can use workaround as well.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1289868] Re: fglrx (not installed): fglrx kernel module failed to build

2014-03-10 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Kevin, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
 /daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

 apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-nouveau REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
 would not be helpful.

I don't think the display is a non-essential hardware component.
In fact, it is THE most important hardware a laptop/netbook can offer. Or do
you think your computer is usable without a display?

This is a regression to previous Ubuntu releases.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1290597] [NEW] mouse doesn't respond well in 14.04

2014-03-10 Thread wolfy1339
Public bug reported:

I use Ubuntu 14.04 on my Surface Pro with a type cover.
I have asked in #ubuntu on irc.freenode.net and they told me to file the bug

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1277343] Re: XMir starts with black screen ([xmir] Failed to set new display config: ... std::exception::what: Invalid format for used output)

2014-03-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package mir - 0.1.6+14.04.20140310-0ubuntu1

---
mir (0.1.6+14.04.20140310-0ubuntu1) trusty; urgency=medium

  [ Kevin Gunn ]
  * Cherry-picked from future release 0.1.7:
- Enhancement: options: Make it easier to customize DefaultConfiguration
- Bug fix: Don't pass a parameter to bash's popd command. It doesn't expect
one and will return an error from cross-compile-chroot.sh. (LP: #1287600)
  * New upstream release 0.1.6 (https://launchpad.net/mir/+milestone/0.1.6)
- mirserver ABI bumped to 16.
- Server API changes:
. Report classes have moved to new namespaces/components. Please
consult the server headers.
. General clean-ups and virtual function changes affecting the ABI
(a rebuild is required for all shells).
- mirclient ABI unchanged, still at 7. Clients do not need rebuilding.
- Add new feature: Screen recording (screencasting) as demonstrated by
  the new mir-util mirscreencast.
- debian: Provide platform packages managed with dpkg alternatives.
- Add new valgrind suppressions (mostly for armhf right now)
- tools: Add new libmirclientplatform.so to install_on_android.sh.
- Add mir_demo_standalone_render_overlays, which is a free-standing
  example of overlay support.
- Proper DisplayConfiguration for the AndroidDisplay to be better
  prepared for multi-monitor Android.
- Commenced/continued simplifying the surface class hierarchy: BasicSurface
  has now absorbed SurfaceData.
- Dynamically load the client platform library.
- Bugs fixed:
. Exceptions thrown from within compositing threads were untraceable,
resulting in a bunch of undebuggable crash reports (LP: #1237332)
. Ensure we close drm device file descriptors on exec. (LP: #1284081)
  . nested render_surfaces fails on N4 [std::exception::what: Failed to
compile vertex shader:] (LP: #1284597)
  . examples: correct fullscreen-surfaces option. (LP: #1284554)
. Fix mutex data race reported by helgrind in integration test:
SwapperSwappingStress (LP: #1282886)
. scene: Return null snapshots for sessions without surfaces
(LP: #1281728)
. tests: Address some raciness in
MesaDisplayTest.drm_device_change_event_triggers_handler.
(LP: #1283085)
. tests: Suppress spurious memory errors occuring when running the
unit tests on armhf with valgrind. (LP: #1279438)
. Mir shows an old frame on client startup (for Mesa GL clients)
(LP: #1281938)
. tests: Add expectation to validate second SessionAuthorizer method
is called wit correct parameter. (LP: #1218436)
. Set field current_format when sending a display config to the
server. (LP: #1277343)
. Fix crash in android devices by working around a subtle threading
bug, use a dummy thead_local array to push the gl/egl context TLS
into a region where the future wait code does not overwrite it.
(LP: #1280086)
  . compositor: calling SwitchingBundle::force_requests_to_complete()
can be a no-op when there are no requests. (LP: #1281145)
. tests: Don't emit an add uevent manually when adding a device
(LP: #1281146)
. config: reduce size of default RPC thread pool. (LP: #1233001)
. Clients freeze on startup if 10 or more are already running
(LP: #1267323)
. Fix Nexus 10 leaking FDs in the hwc prepare/set loop. (LP: #1278658)
. Parallelize page flipping with rendering of the next frame, fixing
stuttering observed in multi-monitor clone mode (LP: #1213801)
. Ubuntu trusty update glm 0.9.5.1-1 broke Mir builds. Work around the
change. (LP: #1285955)
. Screencast feature by compositing to offscreen buffer (LP: #1207312)
