@Hai NGUYEN VAN : did you try commnds like * Increase volume : /usr/bin/pactl set-sink-volume 0 -- +20% * Decrease volume : /usr/bin/pactl set-sink-volume 0 -- -20% * Mute : /usr/bin/pactl set-sink-mute 0 toggle If they work then you can create a shortcut yourself. You have been subscribed to a public bug: Did the upgrade from 13.10 to 14.04 yesterday (9-mar-2014). After that, desktop behaviour was strange. I realized that the graphics driver chose the strange resolution for both my display (as DVI-0, std resolution = 1680x1050) and the tv screen on VGA-0 (std resolution = 1920x1080). When i turn on the tv set, graphics driver switches to resoltion 1280x1024. It is not possible to set the position relatively to each other. It always says 'absolute'. One time it was not possible to 'de-unify' the screens. So i experience a lot of strange behaviour. My graphics card is a Radeon 3100. I think base problem is, that the ati-driver cannot be loaded. fglrx driver, can't be loaded, either. But fglrx quit support for my card some time ago. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1290232] Re: kubuntu 14.04: graphics driver not working properly
Hi Jörg, I removed the ati-driver and did a fresh install. After reboot the driver was working well (Blur effect was on, for example). When I plugged the TV screen into the card, resolution somehow messed up, but I was able to start the Display Configuration in System Settings. I did all the adjustments and applied them. The accept dialog did not accept anything and the screen was frozen. It did not revert to the old settings, too. So I killed the X process and after that, it came up nicely and this is what I have till now. If you want to, I'll keep an eye on iy and report into this bug. regards, Hans-Peter BTW: the upgrade to 14.04 was not smooth. It stalled and I had to issue dpkg --configure all manually. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1290342] [NEW] Frequent System Hangs
Public bug reported: bill@WB4ALM-07:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 13.10 Release:13.10 bill@WB4ALM-07:~$apt-cache policy pkgname N: Unable to locate package pkgname I get frequent system hangs... ...sometime xorg restarts itself, many times it does not. Usually I have no keyboard or mouse clicks when it hangs. Sometimes I can move the cursor around the screen, but am unable to click on anything. If I have an active (95 chars by 45 lines) terminal, then it will usually resize the terminal to the default size (80 chars by 24 lines). It does not seem to matter what application software is running. I have seen the problem occur with firefox, system monitor, terminal sessions running REXX scripts, gedit, and th file manager. It does not seem to have an real pattern that I have been able to discover other than SIGABRT eventually showing up in various other routines such as GNOME. My display card is a dual display 8600GTS with 512M onboard. I have been using that card since I first started with Ubuntu 8-04 and 10-04 and it worked exceeding well until I upgraded to 12-04 (12-04, 12-10, 13-04, 14-10) When I first instralled the card I was able to support 4 monitors. One monitor on one port and the other three on the second port connected thru a Tripple-togo external adapter from Matrix. the two seperate sets of monitors were run as separate x-windows and I was very, very happy with that setup. under 12-04 and all successor versions, the seprate x-server mechanism has NOT functioned - resulting in my removal of the tripple-to-go adapter and its three monitors from this system. I now only run a single monitor, and am so severly plaged with XORG failures, that I can no longer use this system as part of my Ham Radio setup, as the system is too unstable to use in digital communications. Please note, ALL system failures have been transmitted to UBUNTU for the past four years. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1284134] Re: Xorg crash
At Barry's request I've tried to reproduce the steps given in comment #5. Caveat: If I type 'alt' and enter 'terminal' I get no completion to launch the terminal, so for the test I launched it using the sidebar. Having done so, launching 'emacs -q ' from the terminal and doing the maximize and minimize steps as stated do not crash X. I'm running VMWare Version 6.0.2 (1398658) on the latest Mavericks. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1284134] Re: Xorg crash
It's quite easy and reproducible to crash. Here are the steps: * Log in * Hit Alt to bring up the launcher * Start up gnome-terminal * In the terminal, type `emacs -q` * In Emacs 24, hit `Ctrl-x Ctrl-c RET` to quit Emacs. * Go back to the terminal and double click on its menu bar to globally maximize the window * Go to the global menu bar and double click on it to de-maximize the terminal At this point, X crashes every time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-vmware in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1284134 Title: Xorg crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1284134/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1284134] Re: Xorg crash
One other note: I am fully dist-upgraded on Trusty (no held back packages), but I cannot run the 3.13.0-16-generic #36 kernel because that exhibits the log in freeze of LP: #1289410. So at grub select Advanced options for Ubuntu and boot the 3.13.0-15.generic kernel. This allows me to log in and reproduce the bug. @Brad thanks for trying to reproduce. Note that when I hit Alt to bring up the launcher, just type enough of Terminal to see it in Applications. Then I use the arrow keys to select the Terminal. I actually don't think it matters *how* gnome-terminal is started though. Same thing happens if you start it with Gnome Do. I just wanted to eliminate one non-standard package from the mix. The problem clearly is that even just starting Emacs 24 corrupts something in X. Emacs doesn't even have to be running when you crash X, hence the suggestion to start it and then immediately kill it before triggering the bug. Also @Brad: you could take a disk snapshot, then dist-upgrade away your held packages. It would then be easy to restore the disk snapshot if things break for you.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1290400] [NEW] External screen turns off randomly
Public bug reported: My external DVI connected monitor turns off randomly. For some reason it can be woken up again by opening the System Settings application. I have not been able to figure out what triggers it to turn off. When I ran the 'ubuntu-bug xorg' to report this bug the problem was triggered (coincidence or not?). If my memory serves me right this started to happen after upgrading to Ubuntu 13.04 (or 13.10)... meaning I have lived with this quite a while. I thought I was alone until I spotted Bug 1239186, which describes the same (or very similar) problem. I was asked (by Chris Penalver) to report this as a separate bug when I added a comment in Bug 1239186. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1289946] Re: Nvidia-prime, Nvidia card turned on(performance) but settings manager shows intel is selected. Can't switch. Laptop heats like hell.
In the system you have, it doesn't appear to be switchable - some outputs are only controlled by Intel, some outputs are only controlled by nvidia. If you want to see anything on the panel, you need to enable Intel. As the igfx is also the one used by the BIOS, it is declared the primary GPU and so will always be active. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1289946 Title: Nvidia-prime, Nvidia card turned on(performance) but settings manager shows intel is selected. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1289946] Re: Nvidia-prime, Nvidia card turned on(performance) but settings manager shows intel is selected. Can't switch. Laptop heats like hell.
It has worked until the latest update. It was switchable. Worked like a charm. When I selected Intel, my laptop was super cool, and could run from battery for 7-8-9 hours. When I selected Nvidia, it was hotter, but I could play windows games through wine with high FPS. Now after latest kernel update I get an error if I try to switch using nvidia-settings. Sorry for lack of answer, i had little free time recently. I have just upgraded to Xubuntu 13.10 about a month ago, and i tested the above error, and found it is still happening. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1289868] Re: fglrx (not installed): fglrx kernel module failed to build
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 891832] Re: video playback blue hue on Oneric 11.10 upgrade
no longer an issue. Upon upgrade to the next version of ubuntu (12.04) issue was fixed. On Wed, Jan 8, 2014 at 7:42 PM, Christopher M. Penalver christopher.m.penal...@gmail.com wrote: Kevin, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-nouveau REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.
