[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1295526] [NEW] disable touchpad while typing doesn't work

2014-03-21 Thread Lex Ross
Public bug reported:

Disable touchpad while typing checkbox in System Settings does not
work on my Asus F5N laptop. The button to disable touchpad does not work
as well. As a workaround I use syndaemon -i 1 -K -d command as per
Ubuntu help page https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticsTouchpad/
but it does not fix the issue with the said chechbox and hardware
button. I guess it still needs to access shared memory using SHMconfig
option in xorg.conf in which case it is the same bug that has been
around for 3 years starting from Ubuntu 11.10

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1295526] Re: disable touchpad while typing doesn't work

2014-03-21 Thread Lex Ross
Actually, neither starting syndaemon via rc.local nor enabling SHMconfig
in xorg.conf helped. The only way to disable touchpad while typing was
to start syndaemon from a graphic session as a user. The button to
disable touchpad does not work and the disable touchpad while typing
checkbox in system control panel has no effect as per my original
report.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1295605] [NEW] Left mouse button not working

2014-03-21 Thread Mark Abrahams
Public bug reported:

The left mouse button stopped working a few days ago - was working fine
before then. Tried two different mice. Left mouse button doesn't work
on either. Changed mouse settings (Settings - Mouse and Touchpad) to
left-handed mouse. Button functionality was swapped, but left button
still didn't work. Tried Unity and Xfce, left button not working on
either. Rebooting didn't fix the fault. Using Ubuntu 13.10.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1171342] Re: mouse scroll wheel not working in gedit System Monitor

2014-03-21 Thread Sandro Rettinger
I see the same issue after upgrading (yes, just recently, I'm a slacker)
to 13.10 from 13.04, on evince and nautilus. I too am running XFCE.
(Specifically 4.10)

Hovering over those applications and using the scroll wheel still raises
them, just as if I'd clicked on them, but does not scroll them.

click scrolling (as described above by Willy) does cause the
applications in question to scroll. The click functionality of my
scrollwheel is normal unix middle button behaviour.

I will try the PPA listed above and report back.

Yes.

Tho I no longer need to press enter to close emacs, could this have something
to do with it?

I'm not sure what this means. Did you try the recipe in comment #5 and

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1295689] [NEW] Mouse randomly moves and clicks stuff

2014-03-21 Thread Elijah Lynn
Public bug reported:

More and more in the past month or so I have been experiencing what
appears to be a random takeover of my computer. The mouse just starts
randomly moving around the screen in a spastic kind of way and then
starts clicking stuff.

This is on a Thinkpad W510 Touchscreen and happens when no external
input devices are connected and also with external wired input devices
as well.

Not sure how to even start debugging this. I have a fair amount of
command line experience and can help with a significant amount of the
debugging if I can get a little bit of guidance.

Unfortunately, I do not know how to consistantly reproduce this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1294107] Re: [965gm mesa] XU 13.10 causing frequent laptop (acer 5620) hard lockups.

2014-03-21 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1284134] Re: Xorg crash

2014-03-21 Thread Jakob Bornecrantz
Oh I got it crashing again...

I was trying the steps in update #13 and that did not repro,
trying #5 caused it to crash once, then after several tries it
crashed again for me. Okay sorry for the noise, it looks like
it is there just hard to repro. Thanks again for the info.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1041916] Re: Touchpad of Fujitsu LifeBook AH532 not recognized

2014-03-21 Thread Katjana Edwardsen
Thank you, Jeremie Tamburini - thank you really ever so much!!! Finally
fixed! I write for a living, and having a practically uncontrolled cursor
has been a terrible ordeal. Now my Fujitsu is perfect.

I had seen numerous references to the alps-1.3, but was unable to install
it. Your simple and accurate 6-step guide was crystal clear and made all
the difference!

Thank you again.

 @Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch)

 Here we are: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1294027
 Hope it's OK.

Now I can describe the workaround, which might be helpful for other
 users:

 1- Downloaded drivers here
 http://www.dahetral.com/public-download/alps-psmouse-dlkm-for-3-2-and-3-5/view
 2- Moved the folder psmouse-alps-1.3 into /usr/src/
 3- cd /usr/src
 4- sudo dkms build psmouse/alps-1.3
 5- sudo dkms install psmouse/alps-1.3
6- sudo rmmod psmouse sudo modprobe -v psmouse

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1295860] [NEW] touchscreen calibration spans dual screens

2014-03-21 Thread DrPotoroo
Public bug reported:

I am testing Ubuntu 14.04 on a microsoft surface pro. Touch and pen
input is good out of the box but when a second display is connected the
touch and pen inputs are both calibrated to span both screen. I.e., on
my setup with external display arranged to be above internal display,
both with 1920x1080 resolution, a touch of the top left of the surface
pro touch screen triggers a button press at the top left of the external
display; whie a touch at the bottom left of the surface pro screen
triggers a button press at that location.

What I expected to happen: Touch and pen input could only trigger button
presses on the internal, touch display.
What happened: Touch and pen input spans both displays.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1295900] [NEW] lubuntu screen corruption only on cold boot.

2014-03-21 Thread thom
Public bug reported:

steps:
1) cold boot (power on)
2) choose boot (grub)
3) login (lightdm)

When logging in, the login rectangle doesn't disappear like it should.

4) Xorg starts

Desktop appears but the outline of the login-rectangle is still there.

Also everything else that is drawn on the screen stays drawn (i.e.
closed windows are still visable, a moved window leaves a trail) as if
the system forgets to erase previously drawn objects.

Strangely enough, the mousepointer doesn't seem to be affected.

5) logout (to lightdm)
or: sudo restart lightdm
or: sudo killall -SIGTERM Xorg
or: sudo reboot

6) login again

Everything is suddenly working as it should ( high order magic ?? )

I have had this problem before with kernels newer than 3.13.0-8 but a
kernel header install followed by a kernel image reinstall would always
fix it.

Since kernel 3.13.0-18 this fix doesn't work anymore.

I assume the problem is (partly) in KMS since it appears in lightdm
(before X starts)
