[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1268275] Re: 10de:07e1 [HP Pavilion p6020jp Desktop PC] Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze
Having now upgraded to 14.04, the problem is still present. In fact, it seems to be worse. Now, when the screen goes mad then I am left with whichever window was last in use (normally maximised) and can't do anything else. All menus are unavailable and I can't even open the terminal via CTRL+ALT+T. The only thing I can do is to cycle the power. The trigger for the problem to start seems to be a window being maximised (or at least, it seems to happen often at the same time as a window being maximised). Would appreciate if this bug can be re-opened. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1268275 Title: 10de:07e1 [HP Pavilion p6020jp Desktop PC] Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1268275/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1254131] Re: Lubuntu 13.10 lid close freeze
apport information ** Tags added: trusty ** Description changed: I have a Dell latitude d505 laptop running Lubuntu 13.10. When I close the lid, the screen becomes blank and the mouse cursor freezes and can't be moved. The backlight is still on but the system is completely unresponsive. I can't even ssh into the laptop to shut it down properly but have to pull the plug. When I go to suspend from the logout menu, it suspends fine and I can close the lid and when I lift it it wakes properly. I tried changing the options in xfce-power-manager to disable suspend but to no avail. I also tried editing the /etc/systemd/logind.conf but nothing worked. Whenever the lid is closed system hangs. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1254131] Re: Lubuntu 13.10 lid close freeze
There seems to be a way to avoid laptop lid freeze. I'm using Lubuntu 14.04 and it utilises Xfce power manager. When it is used to monitor power events, lid close always freezes the laptop. However, when you install acpi-support the freeze no longer happens but the screen remains on when the lid is closed. If you just want to power off your screen when closed, go to Xfce power manager settings and choose 'nothing' in the 'when laptop lid is closed' field. If you want your laptop to suspend when the lid is closed, you need to exit Xfce power manager to let acpi-support handle the event. So the key seems to be to install acpi-support to avoid freeze. Good luck and please post what power manager you are using. This bug seems to be related to Xfce power manager rather than xserver-xorg-video-intel -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1254131 Title: Lubuntu 13.10 lid close freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1254131/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1254092] Re: Touchpad not recognised on Acer Aspire 5720 after upgrade to 13.10
A quick update: I upgraded from 13.10 to 14.04 a couple of days ago. This appears to have fixed the problem. Running xinput now shows the touchpad recognised correctly as: AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint The touchpad settings are back in System Settings Mouse Touchpad and I can now (finally!!!) disable Tap to click. Hurrah! Vertical multiple line scrolling works using the physical middle 4-way button below the touchpad and horizontal scrolling works again too, using the same 4-way button. My only frustration is the many, many months it has taken to get to this point but nevertheless I'm happy to say this issue is now resolved, so thank you to whoever was responsible. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1254092 Title: Touchpad not recognised on Acer Aspire 5720 after upgrade to 13.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1254092/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Redge, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-3.15-rc1 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1309919] Re: Xorg causing 100% cpu load
** Description changed: + EDIT3: I'll withdraw this bug report. + Primary problem here was the combination of xfce-compositor with an slow graphics card (mga). + Disabling the compositor setting in xfce did it for me. Disabling showing window content on resize+move makes things faster on this graphics card, too. + EDIT2: it seems that even the cpu graph in the top bar produces enough load to get Xorg with Matrox G450 (PCI) busy. Without cpu graph responsiveness is still far slower than with 13.10. EDIT: after deleting almost every file+directory which starts with . in my home directory, this problem has vanished, but overall performance seems slower than with 13.10. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1310392] [NEW] Hardware screen scaling problems since 14.04 upgrade with Nvidia legacy driver
Public bug reported: Hello, Just upgraded to Lubuntu 32-bit 14.04 from 13.10 on April 18th, 2014. - System is a P4, 2.8Ghz, 3GB RAM, - NVidia GeForce 5700LE AGP graphics card with proprietary legacy video drivers manually installed from Nvidia site (VERSION 173.14.39, RELEASE: 2013.12.6 - the latest possible version available for my graphics card). - Motherboard is ASUS P4P800-E upgraded to the latest BIOS available. Prior to the upgrade, the arcade emulator MAME, the Commodore 64 emulator VICE, and the Commodore Amiga emulator FS-UAE worked fantastically in full screen scaled mode. No delay, smooth performance. Reasonably low CPU usage for a processor of this vintage. After the upgrade to 14.04, all full screen modes (1080x1920) in these emulators bring the system to a crawl. Sound from the emulator is broken up, framerates are terrible (like two frames a second), CPU usage is near or past 100%. I suspect other OpenGL software using full-screen scaling would also be affected, but these are the only three pieces of software I have to test with. I've found that in MAME and VICE, I can work-around this problem but shutting off hardware scaling. Essentially (I think), this takes my graphics card out of the loop and does the scaling in software/CPU. Scaling down the resolution of the emulation helps too. Frame-rates are better, CPU usage is lower by a factor of 30 to 40%. However, because of these work around measure the overall user experience of the emulators is severely impeded. I also ran glxgears as a test and resized the window from its original small size, a little bigger every five seconds, until it was the full height of the screen (1080 lines) and got the following results: Code: brent@Brent-Lubuntu:~$ glxgears 552 frames in 5.0 seconds = 110.342 FPS 593 frames in 5.0 seconds = 118.471 FPS 416 frames in 5.0 seconds = 83.071 FPS 315 frames in 5.0 seconds = 62.810 FPS 287 frames in 5.0 seconds = 57.252 FPS 197 frames in 5.0 seconds = 39.354 FPS 165 frames in 5.0 seconds = 32.789 FPS 130 frames in 5.0 seconds = 25.937 FPS 124 frames in 5.0 seconds = 24.781 FPS 117 frames in 5.0 seconds = 23.274 FPS XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0 after 25689 requests (25666 known processed) with 0 events remaining. I had originally switched to the Nvidia proprietary driver from Nouveau because of slight artifacts and stuttering in the latter. The proprietary driver mentioned above worked like a dream in 13.10. MP4 videos played in VLC VideoLAN player still play well, with low CPU usage. Based on my limited knowledge, this seems to be a problem with the graphics card full-screen scaling to 1080x1920 (desktop monitor screenmode) under 14.04. Might have to do something with OpenGL? The system works very well, other than when these emulators try to go into full screen mode. One way of duplicating this bug (if you are using an NVidia legacy driver and graphics card): 1. Install the latest version of the VICE emulator 2. from terminal type XVIC 3. Under SETTINGS/VIC SETTINGS/ menu, ensure that HARDWARE SCALING is checked 4. start a graphically intensive game (i.e. the GORF cartridge or a shoot-em-up game). 5. Press CTRL-D to engage full-screen mode. 6. CPU usage will be very high compared with HARDWARE SCALING unchecked. ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: legacy lubuntu nvidia opengl -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1310392 Title: Hardware screen scaling problems since 14.04

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1273234] Re: [acpi backlight] Can't control screen brightness
Hello guys, I've solved this problem doing something like this= http://askubuntu.com/questions/76081/brightness-not-working-after-installing-nvidia-driver I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 64bits release in my Vostro 3300 with Nvidia GeForce 310M. I think the problem is about Nvidia/X11 receive the variable passed by Fn+Up/Down, because you can check with 'cat /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness' that the value changes after you press Fn+Up/Down but the backlight bright doesn't. The full proceadure that worked for me: 1. I edited the grub with # nano /etc/default/grub and edited this line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=acpi_osi=Linux 2. After that: # update-grub 3. Installed the Nvidia driver (proprietary-tested) on Ubuntu Software Center, and REBOOT. 4. Checked if my video card was identified: # lspci | grep -i vga 5. Created the X11 conf file with (there wasn't this file there yet): # nano /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-nvidia-brightness.conf and write down on it these lines: -- Section Device Identifier Device0 Driver nvidia VendorName NVIDIA Corporation BoardName GeForce 310M Option RegistryDwords EnableBrightnessControl=1 EndSection -- the most important part is this one: Option RegistryDwords EnableBrightnessControl=1 6. Saved and reboot. Now everything works fine and the values (from 0 to 15 that you can check here /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness) are now equal total darkness to a full bright screen. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1273234 Title: [acpi backlight] Can't control screen brightness To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1273234/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
