[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1310489] [NEW] xorg.conf overwritten by booting system
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Release:14.04 Hello, I am using a notebook with a quadcore AMD A10 and hybrid graficcard AMD/ATI Radeon HD 8650G / AMD/ATI Sun XT Radeon HD 8670A/8670M/8690M. After installing fglrx I generated the xorg.conf in the terminal with 'sudo aticonfig --adapter=all --initial' and it looked pretty good. Up to this point I was able to switch between the cards with the commands 'sudo aticonfig --px-dgpu' for the discrete card and 'sudo aticonfig --px-igpu' for the intigrated card to save power. After rebooting I realized that I was no longer able to switch between the cards and found that the xorg.conf will be overwritten whenever I modified it and reboot the system. The new (by boot) generated xorg.conf contains not the relevant information for switing between the cards. I attached both configuration in one file (xorg.conf.comparison). I will also provide the atisysteminfo-report.txt so far I will find the place where to attach. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1309927] Re: LTS upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04 deleted xorg.conf file completely
I had this same thing occur on my main desktop computer as well. Knowing that the xorg.conf file got trounced on my main notebook, I made sure I had a good backup of my xorg.conf file before beginning the LTS upgrade. At the conclusion of the upgrade, the xorg.conf file was still in the directory. Upon IPL, however, it was gone, and X started without the correct settings. I copied from my backup, IPL, and Xubuntu came up with the correct display settings. This desktop system transitioned up to driver package: nvidia-331 during the LTS upgrade. On this system I had already selected: nvidia- current-updates ... not sure if the notebook had the -updates version of the package, might have simply been current on that system. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1309927 Title: LTS upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04 deleted xorg.conf file completely To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-173/+bug/1309927/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 precise referred-by-support ubuntu ** Description changed: Ubuntu 13.10, release: 13.10 xorg: Installed: 1:7.7+1ubuntu6 Have you experienced just one lockup, or have you had a series of these lockups? - I had several lockups. If you've had several, how often does it occur? Every few hours? Once or twice a day? Couple times a week? - Couple times a week. When did you first notice it? - Around a year ago. Shortly after upgrading? - Can't remember, could be after the 12.10 upgrade. After updating? - Don't think so. After changing compositing (Desktop Effects) settings? - Never changed these. Under what conditions does it seem most likely to reproduce? - Undetermined, it happens during normal OS usage. It doesn't seem to happen when the laptop is idle. Only at boot time? - No, it can also happen after, let's say, several hours of working on the laptop. When resuming from suspend or hibernate? - I never suspend or hibernate the laptop. Only when using compositing (Unity, et al) Yes, it never happened when in a tty. When changing resolution or enabling/disabling monitors - I don't change the resolution or enable/disable monitors. When the screensaver (or power saving mode) kicks in - The laptop continues working properly when the screensaver or power saving mode kicks in. Visiting particular web pages or loading particular files - Not a particular web page, but it happens when I use FireFox, Google Chrome or Thunderbird. Switching between desktops - I never do this. When performing a specific sequence of actions (List them!) - I don't have a reproducable situation. + --- + .tmp.unity.support.test.0: + + ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu17.4 + Architecture: i386 + CasperVersion: 1.315.1 + CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' + CompositorRunning: compiz + DistUpgraded: Fresh install + DistroCodename: precise + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 + DistroVariant: ubuntu + ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, + GraphicsCard: + Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI M52 [Mobility Radeon X1300] [1002:7149] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) +Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:2003] + LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS Precise Pangolin - Release i386 (20130820.1) + MachineType: Dell Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1275228] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort()
This is very awful I don't know why this bug is labelled expired I have been having this problem ever since I have started using ubuntu i.e from the release of 10.10 to 14.04 and there is still no change in the errors status I recently installed Ubuntu 14.04 and installed the startup packages like restricted-extras fglrx fglrx-pxpress gimp vlc and added some well know and some other ppas And just like every other time I started getting this Xorg error Sometimes my Ubuntu even opens in Low Graphics Mode I can however be fixed by restarting the system most of the time at other times I have to uninstall my amd drivers and never Install them again I am willing to do anything to fix this. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1310633] [NEW] Mouse and eventually keyboard freeze
Public bug reported: I've tried upgrading and fresh installs of 14.04 several times. This was done on a fresh install. Mouse freezes very quickly after login ( 1 minute or so). Trying ctrl+alt+F1 and does not switch screens and then the keyboard becomes unresponsive (can still use ssh to connect). After some of the upgrades, often also had excessive display flickering (and mouse and keyboard unresponsiveness) and saw NVRM errors in kern.log. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1310632] [NEW] when radeon module is inserted skype, drive manager and audio and video settings hang; vgaswitcheroo does not work
Public bug reported: If I start the system with radeon module blacklisted everything works with the issue of having the discrete radeon card on and a higher cpu temperature. If I insert the radeon module many things hang. In particular: if I start skype before I insert the module I cannot do calls anymore. If I try to start skype after inserting the module it hangs at the login. The same is true for drive manager and audio and video settings from systemsettings. Moreover vgaswitcheroo is unable to switch on the discrete card. More explictly, issuing echo ON /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch the discrete card remains off. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 883319] Re: xrandr --scale restricts area in which mouse moves
I think that the upstream bug is not correct here. The problem is not with panning; the problem is with scaling and the mouse behavior. I have xserver-xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu6 (X.Org X Server 1.14.5), and if I issue xrandr --output LVDS1 --scale 2x2 the screen scales correctly, but then the mouse is restricted to the (original 1x1 viewport) upper left quarter of the screen, making the scaling completely unuseful. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/883319 Title: xrandr --scale restricts area in which mouse moves To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/883319/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 883319] Re: xrandr --scale restricts area in which mouse moves
So basically, the Fix released status is incorrect. The bug referred to the title is still here (at least in Saucy, will test Trusty). Maybe the other problem (panning, mentioned in the upstream bug, not related with this bug title) is fixed, but not this one.
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 883319]
Probably this bug has been marked invalid because there is a mix of two bugs here: one is related to panning (which I do not know if it's fixed or no), and the other one to mouse constraints when scaling. I have X.Org X Server 1.14.5 , and if I issue xrandr --output LVDS1 --scale 2x2 the screen scales correctly, but then the mouse is restricted to the (original 1x1 viewport) upper left quarter of the screen, making the scaling completely unuseful. It is quite easily reproducible.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1310784] [NEW] Workspace animation incorrect with multiple monitors at different resolutions
Public bug reported: There is an issue where the workspace animation zooms to/from the wrong monitor when using multiple monitors at different screen resolutions. This does not happen when the resolutions are the same. Slowing down the animation with compizmanager makes the inaccurate zoom animation more apparent. I've attached 2 screenshots which will help visualise the problem. At the same resolutions, zooming is correct. At different resolutions, zooming flies in/out on both monitors for the left section only, then cuts to the right section on the right monitor. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013881] Re: Right-Ctrl key broken on French OSS keyboard
Hello, I am french, I use the Français (variante) keymap because I like how the keys are arranged (², ³, œ, etc). I also am left-handed and use Ctrl-Up and Ctrl-Down to switch desktops. I do so by using RCtrl + arrows, keeping my left hand on the mouse. Now, on Ubuntu 14.04, I am also suffering from this weird level5 thing. For some reason I don't really understand, I should now use both hands to change desktops (I replaced Ctrl-Alt-Up/Down with Ctrl-Up/Down with to not use both hands, as you understood). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1310824] [NEW] I never installed fglrx-updates but it was installed on 2 computers
Public bug reported: Hello I am not really sure how to report this bug even after reading the page on reporting. I will do my best. On both computers I have I never installed fglrx-updates but none the less the package was installed on both computers. This was not reflected in Additional Drivers either. Below is the specs of the computers: Computer 1 HP DC7100 Pentium 4 3.8GHz HT 4 gigs ram ATI Radeon HD 6450 Computer 2 HP DC5750 AMD Athalon 64 x2 3.0GHz 8 Gigs ram ATI radeon HD 7750 Both computers are under my care and it just so happens they have similar stories. I freshly installed Ubuntu 13.10 on both a little while before 14.04 came out. Well computer 2 had Lubuntu installed, Computer 1 has Ubuntu. On computer 1 I left the mesa drivers from default install on it. On computer 2 I installed fglrx from additional drivers. I updated both to 14.04. I decided to update Computer 1 to the fglrx driver but I noticed it was slower afterwards so I thought mesa drivers were up to par, but things did not make sense, upon checking in additional drivers, it showed only fglrx installed so I switched to mesa and rebooted (this is on both computers). When the reboot was done and I checked additional drivers it showed fglrx-updates was installed, so I switched it to fglrx, rebooted, and check additional drivers again and it showed only fglrx. I got suspicious due to complications and slower speeds on computer 1, so I opened synaptic and typed fglrx. This revealed that both fglrx and fglrx-updates both were installed on both computers. The same result happened when I swicthed both to mesa again, this time only mesa showed in additional drivers but synaptic showed fglrx-updates was still installed. I also found someone on the forums that had the same issue only with nvidia, I fixed my problem and apparently their's by using synaptic to uninstall fglrx on both computers and set additional drivers to fglrx- updates. Both computers are fine however Computer 2 is having other errors but they don't seem remotely related to this issue. Computer 2 sometimes on boot gives USB 7:1 can not enumberate error (wireless card I am sure), and sometimes a end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector0. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1310780] [NEW] 2560x1440@55 with HDMI and HD4000 doesn't work anymore (13.10 - 14.04)
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hi, after upgrading Ubuntu from 13.10 to the latest version, I'm not anymore able to drive my external display with native solution, connected via HDMI-DVI-cable. Using the tweak described in http://www.notebookcheck.com/2560x14...n.89837.0.html this was possible for my ivy-bridge notebook with HDMI-only output. In contrast, when finally triggering xrandr --output HDMI1 --mode 2560x1440 the display gets shortly blanked with the message xrandr: Configure crtc 0 failed. In Xorg.log the following lines can be found: [ 27635.065] (II) intel(0): resizing framebuffer to 2560x1440 [ 27635.067] (II) intel(0): switch to mode 1920x1200@60.0 on HDMI1 using pipe 0, position (0, 0), rotation normal, reflection none [ 27635.099] (II) intel(0): switch to mode 2560x1440@54.9 on HDMI1 using pipe 0, position (0, 0), rotation normal, reflection none [ 27635.496] (EE) intel(0): failed to set mode: Invalid argument [ 27635.548] (II) intel(0): resizing framebuffer to 1920x1200 Any idea for new valid arguments or additional changes required? finally fully upgraded to 14.04LTS and 1280x720 is still not the list of resolutions supported for the laptop's panel, thus certain projectors and displays cannot be mirrored at more than 640x480. when 1280x720 is manually added using xrandr, it works as expected. how can 1280x720 be permanently added without generating a conf?
