[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1350747] [NEW] Black screen after lock or switch user

2014-07-31 Thread Dmitry Kann
Public bug reported:

This started about a week ago, I started getting very frequent problems
with lockscreen and switching users. After using either of them never
brings the system back. Most of the time I just get a black screen
(sometimes with mouse cursor).

The system seems to respond to keyboard but the display is broken. I
have no clue whether it's xorg, lightdm or anything else.

This never happened until a few days ago.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1247736] Re: [SRU] nvidia-opencl-icd-* should not conflicts/replaces on opencl-icd

2014-07-31 Thread Graham Inggs
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
Users with proprietary Nvidia graphics drivers are unable to co-install CUDA
and OpenCL applications.
The patches in comment #21 and #22 backport the fix from Utopic and resolve
this issue by allowing nvidia-opencl-icd-* (Nvidia's OpenCL ICD) to be
co-installed with ocl-icd-libopencl1 (the generic OpenCL ICD loader).

- [SRU Verification Test Case]
+ [SRU Verification Test Case #1]
+ sudo apt-get remove nvidia-opencl-icd-* nvidia-libopencl1-* ocl-icd-ibopencl1
+
+ sudo apt-get install nvidia-opencl-icd-331
+
+ With the 331.38-0ubuntu7 drivers, the Nvidia OpenCL ICD will be
+ installed without any dependencies.
+
+ With the 331.38-0ubuntu7.1 drivers, ocl-icd-libopencl1 will be installed
+ as a dependency:
+
+ The following extra packages will be installed:
+ ocl-icd-libopencl1
+ Suggested packages:
+ opencl-icd
+ The following NEW packages will be installed:
+ nvidia-opencl-icd-331 ocl-icd-libopencl1
+
+ Repeat the above for nvidia-opencl-icd-331-updates.
+
+ [SRU Verification Test Case #2]
  sudo apt-get install nvidia-opencl-icd-331
  OR
  sudo apt-get install nvidia-opencl-icd-331-updates
(does not require an Nvidia graphics card)

  sudo apt-get install beignet
  (an alternate OpenCL ICD)

With the 331.38-0ubuntu7 drivers, the Nvidia OpenCL ICD will be removed:

The following packages will be REMOVED:
- nvidia-opencl-icd-331
+   nvidia-opencl-icd-331
The following NEW packages will be installed:
- beignet
+   beignet
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 1 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

With the 331.38-0ubuntu7.1 drivers, beignet and nvidia-opencl-icd-331
  (or nvidia-opencl-icd-331-updates) can be co-installed.

  [Test Case]
  sudo apt-get install nvidia-331 or sudo apt-get install nvidia-331-updates
(does not require an Nvidia graphics card)
  sudo apt-get install python-pycuda
  sudo apt-get install python-pyopencl

This will result in the error message below.

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
   python-pyopencl : Depends: libopencl-1.1-1
     Depends: libopencl-1.2-1
Depends: ocl-icd-libopencl1 but it is not going to be
installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

A similar conflict exists between wine and nvidia-cuda-toolkit.

  sudo apt-get install nvidia-331 or sudo apt-get install nvidia-331-updates
(does not require an Nvidia graphics card)
  sudo apt-get install wine
  sudo apt-get install nvidia-cuda-toolkit

This will result in a warning similar to the one below.

The following extra packages will be installed:
    nvidia-libopencl1-331 nvidia-opencl-dev
The following packages will be REMOVED:
    ocl-icd-libopencl1 ocl-icd-libopencl1:i386 wine wine1.6 wine1.6-amd64
    wine1.6-i386:i386
The following NEW packages will be installed:
    nvidia-cuda-toolkit nvidia-libopencl1-331 nvidia-opencl-dev

  [Regression Potential]
This fix only affects the relationships between packages and should not
introduce any new bugs. However, since packages that were previously difficult
to install together will now be co-installable, new bugs in those packages may
be exposed.

  [Other Info]
It is possible to work around this issue by first installing the CUDA
application, then installing ocl-icd-opencl-dev, and finally installing the
OpenCL application. (See comment #7)

2014-07-31 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
SammyA, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per

an update to your BIOS is available (F.13). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate does it change anything? If it
doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report. As well, you don't have to create a new
bug report.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette

Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 800064] Re: touchpad rotation when monitor rotated

2014-07-31 Thread TomasHnyk
(In other words - set it to wishlist and confirmed and let it be. Unless
somebody from xorg is going to develop this feature, this is not going
ot happen. There exists a patch (see here:
http://cc.oulu.fi/~rantalai/synaptics/ ) that enables manual (but
scriptable) way to rotate touchpad's axis, but upstream developers want
something more general that would automatically work for all touchpads,
not just synaptics. But this would need more work thay do not seem to be
interested in doing it.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 800064] Re: touchpad rotation when monitor rotated

2014-07-31 Thread TomasHnyk
Have you read the original report and subsequent comments? This is a
feature request, the specifications of anyone's machine are irelevant,
this does not work for anybody with synaptics (or any other if I am not
mistaken) touchpad. My problem and the original reporter's program are
exactly the same. Please, use some common sense.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1350939] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2014-07-31 Thread Iain Buclaw
Public bug reported:

Screen locks up under certain scenarios.

May be a red herring but mostly seems to occur:

- Running a cpu or memory intensive process (Have 3.5GB RAM, 3.5GB Swap
on SSD. Freezes occur even when swap not in use, also has occurred
within minutes of booting up)

- Shortly after resuming from suspend.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1350985] [NEW] After Attaching Display to Sleeping Laptop and Waking it, Login Manager Crashes

2014-07-31 Thread Peter Novotnak
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 14.04.1

What I expected to happen:

To be able to log in

What happened instead:

Login manager crashed and I was not able to use it.

Background:

The affected machine is a Asus Q501LA laptop with no discrete graphics card.
CPU is a i5-4200U and the on-die graphics is an Intel HD 4400.
External monitor is a PB278Q connected via the HDMI port on the laptop; it's
resolution is 2560 x 1440.

Description of the problem:

The machine recognizes the monitor, flashes black for a moment, and then
displays a tiled copy of the log in screen across both monitors.
Bluetooth touchpad is functional, but clicking any copy of the gear
power management icons does nothing, and I cannot type in the password
prompt. Only workarounds are hard restart, or drop to tty and restart
lightdm.

Misc. Additional information:

Monitor is set up to the right of the laptop, with the monitor adjusted
so that it's bottom edge is flush with the bottom edge of the laptop-
that's mirrored in software. The monitor's vertical resolution is
taller, so there's empty space above the top of the laptop's screen.
In screenshots it's black (example attached.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1349121] Re: Non-existent display detected using nouveau driver (Samsung Laptop Nvidia GeForce GT 520M) (Ubuntu 14.04.01)

2014-07-31 Thread Morten Frisch
I'll have to admit that I was a bit confused in the end there after all
purging, reinstalling and installing. Checked my gpu-manager log now and
it says that neither nouveau nor nvidia are loaded. Just Intel. In the
jockey or 'additional drivers' interface it says nouveau. As I
understand it there is no xorg.conf file like there was in the good old
days where the driver to use is specified. Seems the situation is all
but clear at the moment.

Seems the bumblebee package doesn't have any driver specific
dependencies. The Nvidia package is purged and completely out of my
system though.

sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
