2014-09-02 Thread marco.pallotta
I have this problem in 12.04 LTS too, after upgrading to HWE kernel and
always happens when I launch virtualbox (downloaded from virtualbox site
as the one packaged with ubuntu doesn't run anymore after the above
upgrade).

My VGA controller is NVIDIA Corporation G72 [GeForce 7200 GS / 7300 SE]

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1364078] [NEW] Cannot set screen resolution above 1400x1050

2014-09-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Since installing Ubuntu 14.04, I have not been able to adjust the display
resolution to 1920x1080.
My current Ubntu version is Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS.
My video card is an AMD/ATI RV710, which displayed at high resolution with
Ubuntu 12.04.
The Ubuntu 14.04 open-source driver showed options between 640x400 and
1280x1024. I tried the proprietary driver, which set the resolution at
1400x1050 with no other options. I tried to remove the proprietary driver, but
rebooting has me stuck at 1400x1050.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1364292] [NEW] VGA output doesn't work with Intel GM45 chipset

2014-09-02 Thread Oliver Woodford
Public bug reported:

I have just installed Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit on my Toshiba Portege R600-10Q
laptop (a model from 2009). I am now trying to display the desktop on a
BenQ Senseye3 22 monitor, via the vga output, but it's not working -
the monitor says No Signal Detected!.

What I've done:
I have gone into Screen Display, where I can see the monitor is detected by
the laptop.
The monitor has a 1920 x 1080 native resolution, which I have tried to use, but
I have also set it to lower resolutions, e.g. 1024 x 576.
I have tried to use the monitor in dual screen, mirrored and single screen mode
- none work.
I have tried pressing Fn + F5 to get single screen output - the laptop screen
goes blank, but still no output on the monitor.
I have tried several monitors (of the same type, and also of a different make),
so I don't think it's that.

If, and only if, the monitor was plugged in to the PC's vga output
during boot up, then the display outputs to the monitor correctly. But
if I plug the vga cable in after boot up, then the monitor receives no
signal.

The laptop has the Intel® GS45 Express chipset for graphics
acceleration. I installed mesa-utils and ran glxinfo in a terminal.
Amongst the output was:

OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset

Also, in the About This Computer window I see:

Graphics: Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset

I wonder if the problem is that my chipset is GS45 not GM45.

One last thing. The output of sudo lshw -C video is:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1364292] Re: VGA output doesn't work with Intel GM45 chipset

2014-09-02 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Oliver Woodford, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
As per http://www.toshiba.co.uk/innovation/download_bios.jsp?service=UK an
update to your BIOS is available (3.20). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate does it change anything? If it
doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1364522] Re: Firefox crashes sometimes when using webgl with nouveau driver

2014-09-02 Thread Bernhard Übelacker
Problem could be reproduced with following graphic adapters:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation NV40 [GeForce 6800] (rev
a1)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation NV31 [GeForce FX 5600XT]
(rev a1)

(Firefox probably blacklisted the second card for webgl, to be able to
investigate on the issue I had to enable manually.)
But the crash happens for the first card with default settings.

As far as I could observe, Firefox creates 3 contexts, then destroys the
last one but then still accesses the freed memory of the destroyed
context.

I believe this crash got fixed by this upstream commit:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/commit/src/gallium/drivers/nouveau/nv30/nv30_context.c?id=c092c46b27c6f6a6674e8d67fb3afdb684811819
Unfortunately this commit got only into 10.2.2.

But as Trusty Tahr is a LTS release it probably will stay a long time with
users using older graphics cards.
Therefore I ask if this little patch could be added.

--
Building package libgl1-mesa-dri like this makes the crash for me go away:
mkdir -p ~/ubuntu/mesa; cd ~/ubuntu/mesa
apt-get source libgl1-mesa-dri
cd mesa-10.1.3
wget wget
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/patch/src/gallium/drivers/nouveau/nv30/nv30_context.c?id=c092c46b27c6f6a6674e8d67fb3afdb684811819
 -O debian/patches/999-nv30_avoid_dangling_references_to_deleted_contexts.patch
echo 999-nv30_avoid_dangling_references_to_deleted_contexts.patch
debian/patches/series
patch -p1
debian/patches/999-nv30_avoid_dangling_references_to_deleted_contexts.patch
dpkg-buildpackage
cd ..
# sudo dpkg -i libgl1-mesa-dri_10.1.3-0ubuntu0.1_i386.deb

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1355196] Re: compiz fails with intel_do_flush_locked failed: Invalid argument

2014-09-02 Thread Scott Moser
Tim,
I've verified broken in both 3.16.0-031600rc7-generic and
3.16.0-031600-generic

Additionally, I noticed that 'dmesg' on both of those showed:

[1.924049] [drm:i915_gem_init] *ERROR* Failed to initialize GPU,
declaring it wedged

I do not see that in my functional 3.16.0-6-generic . Granted, that is
based on my very non-scientific 1 boot sample.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1242572] Re: xkeyboard-config, console-setup, and ubiquity should use Super+Space for switching keyboard layouts

2014-09-02 Thread Norbert
Bug exists in Ubuntu 14.10 (installed from Ubuntu 14.10 _Utopic Unicorn_
- Alpha i386 (20140902)).

unity-control-center keyboard indicates that Super+Space and Shift+Super+Space
are used for layout switching,
/etc/default/keyboard contains:

XKBMODEL=pc105
XKBLAYOUT=us,ru
XKBVARIANT=,
XKBOPTIONS=grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll

and Alt+Shift switches layouts in terminals (for example Ctrl+Alt+F1)
but does not work in Xorg (for example in Unity session).

So the bug is still here. Please fix it on next install media. It may
confuse Ubuntu newbies. Please fix it before 14.10 final release.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1364317] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT

2014-09-02 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1058040] Re: fglrx-installer not working with AMD Radeon/Mobility Radeon HD 2000-4000 cards in Quantal+

2014-09-02 Thread Janos G. Komaromi
