[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1349282] Re: The gpu-manager should allow RandR offloading without bbswitch

2014-09-04 Thread Alberto Milone
** Description changed:

+ SRU Request
+
+ While bbswitch may fail on some hybrid systems (e.g. on the desktop or
+ when the bbswitch module fails to build), this is not a good reason to
+ prevent the system from offloading rendering to the NVIDIA GPU.
+
+ [Impact]
+ * This problem makes it impossible to use the NVIDIA GPU on hybrid systems
with Intel+NVIDIA GPUs when bbswitch is not available (i.e. when it fails to
load).
+
+ [Test Case]
+ * Make sure to be using a hybrid system with Intel+NVIDIA GPUs.
+
+ * Check that bbswitch is not available. You can do so by posting output of
the following command:
+test -e /proc/acpi/bbswitch  echo true || echo false
+
+ * Make sure that the gpu-manager is not disabled (only necessary if you
disabled it manually).
+
+ * Install ubuntu-drivers-common from trusty-proposed.
+
+ * Remove all fglrx and nvidia drivers (keep the nvidia-common and the
nvidia-prime packages):
+sudo apt-get --purge remove nvidia-331
+sudo apt-get --purge remove nvidia-331
+sudo apt-get --purge remove fglrx
+sudo apt-get --purge remove fglrx-updates
+
+ * Restart the system.
+
+ * Install the nvidia binary driver, reboot, and check that the binary driver
is enabled (attach your /var/log/gpu-manager.log)
+ - Expected: the NVIDIA discrete GPU is enabled.
+ - Bad behavior: the system switches back to the intel driver and the
discrete GPU is not used, despite the fact that the system was configured
properly.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ * Low. Systems that currently work will keep working as usual, the ones that
currently fail should finally work.
+
+ [Other Info]
+ * N/A
+
+ ---
+
The gpu-manager should allow RandR offloading without bbswitch. This
would allow desktop systems to make use of offloading even when bbswitch
  is not supported.

Also, nvidia-settings should not complain in such scenarios. See
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-drivers-
  common/+bug/1310023/comments/70

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1365362] Re: EQ overflowing. Additional events will be discarded until existing events are processed

2014-09-04 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Vaclav Cermak, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As
per
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=engFamilyId=36ProductID=3287ProdId=3287
an update to your BIOS is available (0079). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate does it change anything? If it
doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status New.

Thank you for your understanding.

2014-09-04 Thread Paddy Landau
I'm worried that this bug report will be closed due to lack of activity.

There is already a simple solution for this. What needs doing to
implement it? (I'm not a programmer, otherwise I'd do it myself!)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1365594] [NEW] Underscan not working with Nvidia GTX 660 and Ubuntu 14.04.1

2014-09-04 Thread jacinto josé franco
Public bug reported:

In nvidia-settings if I click to save to xorg.conf or simply click in
Apply after rebook the same problem back again. To fix temporarily I use
nvidia-setting after each boot.

I have already tried to use the more updated version of driver and I
have added sh -c '/usr/bin/nvidia-settings --load-config-only' to start
with the session.

I have recorded this video to explain in a better way.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1349282] Re: The gpu-manager should allow RandR offloading without bbswitch

2014-09-04 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Alberto, or anyone else affected,

Accepted ubuntu-drivers-common into trusty-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/ubuntu-drivers-common/1:0.2.91.7 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1365695] [NEW] No longer able to use GUI after update

2014-09-04 Thread Ivo Wever
Public bug reported:

Until yesterday the 14.04 install on this Thinkpad T530 (nvidia Optimus)
with nvidia-331 drivers worked just fine, including excellent multi-
monitor behavior. Yesterday the set of packages below [1] was updated. I
shut down, booted this morning and found out that I was not shown the
lightdm login screen: I was stuck at the purple screen that precedes it
(into which I enter my disk encryption password).

Now the funny thing is that I could hear the lightdm startup sound and
could actually login by typing my password (disk activity and started
processes verify I am actually logged in), but I can't see anything: I'm
still stuck at the puple screen.

Uninstalling the nvidia drivers solved the problem: I'm typing this in a
browser window using the nouveau drivers.

I atttempted switching to nvidia-304, but that doesn't work either.
Using those drivers I am shown the lightdm login screen, but after
logging in I'm stuck with a screen showing only the background image.
Nothing else is available, no keyboard or mouse trickery will reveal any
menu, dialog or terminal to gain access.

Since nouveau doesn't support a multi-monitor setup, it would be great
if I someone could tell me how to get the nvidia drivers working again.

Some things I noticed:
- .xsession-errors reported 'Xlib: extension GLX missing on display :0'
- /var/log/Xorg.0.log reported 'setversion 1.4 failed: Permission denied'

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1360545] Re: [trusty] [drm] HPD interrupt storm detected on connector DP-1: switching from hotplug detection to polling

2014-09-04 Thread Chris Cheney
I forgot to mention in #2 that the reason I tested and uploaded a new
dmesg was due to multiple entries in the 3.13.0-35.62 Ubuntu changelog
relating to i915 dp support. The changes didn't appear to fix my issue
though.

2014-09-04 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Paddy Landau, it wouldn't hurt to test Utopic (live environment is fine)
via http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise if this
would be reproducible in it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 532137] Re: Wacom Intuos2 tablet hotplug only works once after booting

2014-09-04 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
fabien, thank you for your comment. So your hardware and problem may be
tracked, could you please file a new report with Ubuntu by executing the
following in a terminal while booted into the default Ubuntu kernel (not a
mainline one) via:
ubuntu-bug linux

For more on this, please read the official Ubuntu documentation:
Ubuntu Bug Control and Ubuntu Bug Squad:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/BestPractices#X.2BAC8-Reporting.Focus_on_One_Issue
Ubuntu Kernel Team:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies#Filing_Kernel_Bug_reports
Ubuntu Community:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette

When opening up the new report, please feel free to subscribe me to it.

As well, please do not announce in this report you created a new bug
report.

Thank you for your understanding.

2014-09-04 Thread Chris Cheney
So I dug around in fdo intel BZ area and found that adding the following
to the kernel may produce better logs:

drm.debug=0xe log_buf_len=4M

I have attached the resulting log. It looks a lot like the other bugs
for ThinkPad that have been around for a long time now.
