[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1366637] Re: Synaptics' Precision Touchpad misdected as PS/2

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1372409] Re: The monitor won't wake up after going to sleep (initiated by locking, automatic or manual)

2014-09-22 Thread Jan Corazza
** Description changed:

I am using the 3.16.3 kernel and Mesa/drivers/Xorg from the Oibaf PPA -
but this also happens when using drivers from the regular repositories.

I can leave the computer to lock itself, or lock it by pressing
Ctrl+Alt+L, and it power off the monitor after a few seconds (blue LED
turns yellow), and then if I wait a minute - I will not be able to wake
it up by moving the mouse or pressing any key. Switching to a TTY
doesn't work either, but the keyboard is responding (can turn caps lock
  on/off).

I have to restart the computer to get it in a working state after this
  happens.

I would say that this bug is SEVERE, because you can lose important
  work.

On proprietary AMD drivers (fglrx) - this works. Also, it worked on the
  3.13 kernel (default)

- - graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 7790
- - monitor: HP ZR2330w
+ EDIT: interestingly enough, suspending and resuming works fine. Only
+ switching off the monitor doesn't. I will try another monitor model
+ tomorrow and report back - but since the monitor works with other
+ drivers I don't think the monitor is causing these issues.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1084938] Re: evdev settings doesn't work at all

2014-09-22 Thread Trent Piepho
There really isn't any mystery here. 3 button emulation only works for
BUTTON events. This touchscreen generates TOUCH events. It's totally
different kind of event than a mouse button getting clicked. 3 button
emu doesn't exist for touch events.

Meanwhile I tested both i915.semaphores=0 and i915.semaphores=1 neither
of which did help in my case. But with i915.semaphores=0 my system
became much more unstable and even crashed on its own after some days
without stress on graphics (just ran some desktop apps like thunar or
vlc for music only - no movies). With i915.semaphores=1 the system is at
least stable (for some weeks) as long as I don't heavily use desktop
applications.

I was tempted to suggest that if someone volunteered to deal with the kwin
issues, it'd be OK, but given the problems you've had, I think it's just too
late in the cycle.

Testing it just now some problems have occured which I can't definately
say are due to the update but I haven't seem them before. Windows
stopped accepting keys when I did the dist-upgrade to the new packages.
After a reboot the Window Manager Settings -> Desktop Effects dialog
appears frozen when I interact with it. I started dolphin and it didn't
accept mouse input or allow me to resize it. More testing is needed.

2014-09-22 Thread Jonathan Riddell
I'm against this I'm afraid, we have a history of these late mesa
updates causing problems. We can't adequately test it in both KWin 4
and KWin 5 on all the graphics cards in the time left before the
release. Upstream says he has not tested mesa 10.3 and won't be able to
fix problems in KWin 4.

+1 from me, please also pull http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/mesa-
dev/2014-August/064711.html if you haven't already.

Might want to wait on Riddell's okay, if he has time to test, but if
not, I wouldn't block on it either, as you did some basic KDE testing
yourself.

CUDA does not seem to work with any of the drivers supplied from this
PPA, i have tried a couple. Anyone know a fix..? I'm getting a GTX 980
and since i guess the 343.22 driver wont be in the official Trusty
repo's for a while(?) I have to rely on this PPA

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1372425] Re: XTerm CJK punctuation width not correct.

2014-09-22 Thread kaisu_tsuneyama
** Description changed:

I'm not fluent in English but I'll try my best to describe.

I'm using Xubuntu 14.04, and recently came upon this issue using text
editors in xterm. Sometimes the the width of Chinese full-width comma
',' is not correctly displayed(shortened), resulting in charaters
  'overlapping'.

  See the 'overlapping' effect at:
  http://i.imgur.com/G0Qxi40.png

See the shortened full width comma at:
  http://i.imgur.com/Tf2k92W.png
Note that the first line shows 'shortened' full-width comma, second and third
line show the normal full-width comma.

  --
Step to reproduce in Xubuntu 14.04:

  1. Make sure you have these packages installed:
   'xterm', 'nano', 'fonts-wqy-zenhei';

  2. Create/modify ~/.Xresources with the following contents:

  ! = start of .Xresources = !
!mouse selecting to copy, ctrl-v to paste
  XTerm*VT100.Translations: #override \
  Ctrl V: insert-selection(CLIPBOARD,PRIMARY,CUT_BUFFER0) \n\
  : select-end(CLIPBOARD,PRIMARY,CUT_BUFFER0) \n\

  XTerm*utf8Title:true
  XTerm*cjkWidth:false
  XTerm*faceName:Dejavu Sans Mono:pixelsize=12
  XTerm*faceNameDoublesize:WenQuanYi Zen Hei Mono:pixelsize=13
  ! = end of .Xresources = !

  3. execute in bash: xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources

  4. Start nano in xterm;

  5. copy the following string(not including quotation mark):
   '您好,几位?'

  6. In nano, press Ctrl-v to paste.( Previously configured in
  ~/.Xresources )

- 7. Press back arrow key 1~3 times to see the effect.
+ 7. Press left arrow key 1~3 times to see the effect.

Seems that only pasting those characters messes up the display, typing
  them in has no effect.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1372409] [NEW] The monitor won't wake up after going to sleep (initiated by locking, automatic or manual)

2014-09-22 Thread Jan Corazza
Public bug reported:

 - graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 7790
 - monitor: HP ZR2330w

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314367] Re: Flickering with Ubuntu 14.04 and nvidia card reappeared

2014-09-22 Thread zorbish
The workaround of changing the settings "Force full screen redraws
(buffer swap) on repaint" through CCSM, seems to help resolve the issue
for me. I am running Ubuntu 14.04 with NVIDIA 340.32.

Thanks.
