[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1381994] [NEW] Display switching no longer works
Public bug reported: Hi, I have an Asus X202E laptop, with i3-2365M CPU and iGPU. I find that the display switching between integrated and external displays no longer works. Steps to reproduce: * Boot laptop without extenal display attached. * Log in. * Connect external, powered-on display to HDMI port * Press fn-F8 Expected behaviour: * Repeated presses of fn-F8 cycles through (in some order I forget): - internal display only - internal display mirrored to external at internal's resolution - external display only, at internal's resolution - desktop extended from internal to external - external only at external's resolution This was the observed and desired behaviour up until a few months ago, before the problem manifested Current observed behaviour: * Internal display mirrored to external at internal's resolution * Mouse motion continue to work, mouse click input ignored * Further presses of fn-F8 are ignored. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1382055] [NEW] optimus stopped working when gpu-manager was introduced?
Public bug reported: I had a working system a month ago, with a lucky xorg.conf that allowed the unity desktop to use gdm as window manager, and the mini-displayport to work (wired to the nvidia card). I hadn't updated for a month (mid-August 2014), because it was a production system, and then on 21 Sep 2014, after a full update and restart, gdm only worked on the built-in screen again, only with the intel card. Nvidia-settings suddenly is much smaller, and has a switch option, that does not work (gives an empty warning box as response, if I try to switch to nvidia from intel). - The result of prime-switch nvidia is Segmentation fault, - The gpu manager log says Has nvidia? no, - Xorg.0.log says Failed to load module nvidia (module does not exist, 0) - sudo modprobe nvidia finishes without error, only, because I added the line alias nvidia nvidia-331 to /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-331_hybrid.conf - The command: sudo prime-select nvidia Error: alternatives are not set up properly Error: nvidia mode can't be enabled lspci output: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 06) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK106M [GeForce GTX 770M] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) - the xorg.conf is constantly deleted, which is annoying, I had a nice working version earlier - the best kernel option, that used to work was nvidia.modeset=1, I tried nomodeset and nothing, but none of them help I'd appreciate some help here, even if it's a revert, I just need to continue work as quickly as possible. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1381914] [NEW] Screen Display goes haywire
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I upgraded to ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr a couple of days ago. There were a few errors/bugs which I automatically reported but I ended up with a usable OS and mostly everything worked fine. Suddenly the display on monitors turned haywire. I have a 2 monitors set up and both monitors started displaying random gray stripes on top of the actual applications that were open on the screens. Both the screens were covered in these gray stripes which were moving around randomly as well. I don't know what package or software/application is responsible for the behavior. It was the first time it happened on ubuntu (14.04, I had been been using ubuntu 12.04 for almost 2 years prior with same hardware) but I have seen this happen on Fedora 20 with a 2 monitor setup multiple times. I have a camera photo of what the screens looked like but the printscreen option on the keyboard failed to save the data on the screens. Let me know if any further information is desired. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bot-comment trusty -- Screen Display goes haywire https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1381914 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1307792] Re: Packages nvidia-libopencl1-* should provide libopencl-1.1-1
@ginggs: Sorry for the confusion. I just checked the problem again with the newest Wine 1.7 PPA package. The package manager is only trying to uninstall nvidia-libopencl1-331, nvidia-opencl-dev, and nvidia-cuda-toolkit, and install in their place ocl-icd-libopencl1 (both amd64 and i386 versions, due to wine depending on both architetures). So yes, I think the only problem here is the unintentional removal of nvidia-cuda-toolkit. I tried installing ocl-icd-opencl-dev in place of nvidia opencl-dev, and the package manager happily accepts that as an alternative, and now lets me keep nvidia-cuda-toolkit installed. So I guess the dependency needs to be changed somewhere so that the package manager knows to install ocl-icd-opencl-dev in place of nvidia-opencl-dev, and keep nvidia-cuda- toolkit as it is. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1307792 Title: Packages nvidia-libopencl1-* should provide libopencl-1.1-1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-cuda-toolkit/+bug/1307792/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1382349] [NEW] I did a test run of X Diagnostics
Public bug reported: I run X Diagnostics to see what information is provided. Ubuntu is slow on booting up in spite of a Intel Core i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz x 8 and 7,7 GiB memory. My knowledge of the OS is far too inadequate to understand what all the information means. I also have a Canon MP540 printer that often hangs in the middle of the last page of printing. I also run a Windows XP VM on Ubuntu using Virtual Machine Manager and find that Windows does not see the printer. I don't have any problem seeing my home folder on Ubuntu from the Windows side and I wonder if it may relate to the problem I have with the printer hanging from time to time. This printer works perfectly when working from a pure Windows environment, ie, I boot directly into Windows XP.
