[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1384042] [NEW] Synaptic Touchpad 2-finger pinch / expand and 3 / 4-finger gestures are not supported on 14.04

2014-10-22 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Public bug reported:

This is a summary bug, in order to avoid duplicated reports.

For Synaptics touchpad, even if the touchpad is a multitouch-supported model,
the following gestures are still not supported on 14.04
* 2-finger pinch / expand
* 3-finger tap to move a window
* 4-finger tap to open dash

e.g.
$ xinput list
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2[master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointerid=4[slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ ELAN Touchscreen id=10 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPadid=12 [slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3[master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button id=6[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Video Bus id=7[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button id=8[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Integrated_Webcam_HD id=9[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=11 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Dell WMI hotkeys id=13 [slave keyboard (3)]
$ xinput list-props SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad | grep Capabilities
 Synaptics Capabilities (320): 1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1, 1

For the 4th and the 5th 1, indicates that this touchpad supports two-
finger and three-finger detection respectively.

This issue could be traced back to bug 1294515,
mtdev was dropped:
There are no touchpad drivers in the kernel tree that use protocol A, so
using mtdev is just a computationally expensiv and memory-wasting noop.

Note that 2-finger tapping should work as a right click, and 2-finger
vertical / horizontal scrolling should work as expected too.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1181651] Re: ldconfig problem with 64-bit nvidia driver packages

2014-10-22 Thread Alberto Milone
Driver packages are not multi-arch. The 64 bit package provides both 64
bit and 32 bit libraries. The empty alternative is meant to avoid that,
when nvidia is installed, users end up using nvidia's 64 bit libraries
and mesa's 32 bit libraries.

As for the NVIDIA Optimus case, when in power saving mode (which you can
select from nvidia-settings), the alternatives will be set to the
prime option, which will make sure that only Mesa's GL libraries for
both 64 bit and 32 bit are used, provided that you have the 32 bit
version of mesa installed.

This is dealt with automatically, and users shouldn't select
alternatives manually.

For example, when /usr/lib/nvidia-331-prime/ld.so.conf is selected, it will add
the following:
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa

This is what happens when /usr/lib/nvidia-331/ld.so.conf and
/usr/lib/nvidia-331/alt_ld.so.conf are in use:

ldconfig -p | grep GL
libQt5OpenGL.so.5 (libc6,x86-64) =
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5OpenGL.so.5
libGLU.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGLU.so.1
libGLESv2.so.2 (libc6,x86-64) =
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa-egl/libGLESv2.so.2
libGL.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/nvidia-331/libGL.so.1
libGL.so.1 (libc6) = /usr/lib32/nvidia-331/libGL.so.1
libGL.so (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/nvidia-331/libGL.so
libGL.so (libc6) = /usr/lib32/nvidia-331/libGL.so
libEGL.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) =
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa-egl/libEGL.so.1

This is what happens when /usr/lib/nvidia-331-prime/ld.so.conf and
/usr/lib/nvidia-331-prime/alt_ld.so.conf are in use:

when 32 bit mesa is not installed:

# ldconfig -p | grep GL
libQt5OpenGL.so.5 (libc6,x86-64) =
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5OpenGL.so.5
libGLU.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGLU.so.1
libGLESv2.so.2 (libc6,x86-64) =
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa-egl/libGLESv2.so.2
libGL.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1
libEGL.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) =
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa-egl/libEGL.so.1

when 32 bit mesa is installed:

# ldconfig -p | grep GL
libQt5OpenGL.so.5 (libc6,x86-64) =
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5OpenGL.so.5
libGLU.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGLU.so.1
libGLESv2.so.2 (libc6,x86-64) =
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa-egl/libGLESv2.so.2
libGL.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1
libGL.so.1 (libc6) = /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1
libEGL.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) =
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa-egl/libEGL.so.1

Maybe you're missing the libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 package?

NOTE: we do not support Optimus systems with the 304 nvidia driver and we do
not support Bumblebee at all.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1181651] Re: ldconfig problem with 64-bit nvidia driver packages

2014-10-22 Thread Bruno Nova
@Alberto, sorry to confuse you.
I am using Bumblebee, but I have everything working now. The alternatives are
pointing to the Mesa GL libraries, nvidia-331 installed and
libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 installed (though it's not installed by default nor by
bumblebee, so I reported Bug #1383909 there).
But forget what I said in the other comments about Bumblebee. I was referring
to the NVIDIA drivers only.

As I don't have a working computer with NVIDIA only, I can't test this myself.
But the bug reporter and another commenter are/were affected. There are also
several people marked as affected.
And I can see other people in the Web using an NVIDIA card complaining about
Steam and Skype not finding the 32-bit libGL.so.1 or that it has wrong ELF
class (because /usr/lib is listed before /usr/lib32, they say), in Trusty or
previous releases.

Both /usr/lib/nvidia-XXX/alt_ld.so.conf and
/usr/lib/nvidia-XXX-prime/alt_ld.so.conf are empty in my system.
If this is to avoid using 32-bit Mesa libraries, couldn't
/usr/lib/nvidia-XXX/alt_ld.so.conf be pointing to the NVIDIA 32-bit libraries
(like the bug reporter suggested)?
Also, /usr/lib/nvidia-XXX-prime/alt_ld.so.conf could point to the 32-bit Mesa
libraries (but they are not installed by default, so the nvidia-prime could
recommend libgl1-mesa-glx:i386).

But you know more about this than me.

I tried configuring the alternatives to use NVIDIA's ld.so.conf and
alt_ld.so.conf, and ldd ~/.steam/bin/steamui.so | grep GL actually finds the
NVIDIA's 32-bit libGL.so.1. Maybe it's working correctly after all.
Is any Ubuntu 14.04+ user with an NVIDIA card (no Optimus) still facing this
issue?

I applied the patch from Chris Wilson to xserver-xorg-core

It appears that the package's .diff.gz has some changes (why isn't that
a quilt patch?) in the affected file, a patch that applies to the source
package (on top of all the other patches) is attached.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1384289] [NEW] mesa 10.3.1 required for mir

2014-10-22 Thread Andreas Pokorny
Public bug reported:

There is a bugfix in 10.3.1 that will fix dma-buf handling in i915. So
we would like to see the newest minor release of mesa, which is 10.3.1
This will fix:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1275398 and
basically enable i915 devices to run mir.

[Impact]

 * The bug leads to crashes in unity8 on i915 and to crashes or 'black
buffers' on mir clients.

 * This is not a request for back porting but a request to pick the next
minor bugfix release of mesa.

[Test Case]

 * Install mir-demos on a intel atom netbook or a pentium d system
 * sudo mir_demo_server_basic --vt 2 --file /tmp/mir_socket
 * sudo chmod 666 /tmp/mir_socket
 * mir_demo_client_eglplasma -m /tmp/mir_socket
 * then vt switch to vt 1
 * expected yellowish plasma animation, error: eglplasma crashing or just
showing a black buffer

[Regression Potential]

 * Instead of immediately crashing unity8s desktop session it will make
the primary client of unity8: unity8-dash fail to start due to
insufficient GL support on the mesa driver - but that is a different
error.

 * 10.3.1 introduces the bespoke i915 bug fix, and further driver local fixes
to nouveau for the kepler ir, shutdown leak fixes for radeon and a division by
zero fix for llvmpipe. A fix to glsl that first manifested in i965. Apart from
that build system cleanups for building mesa for android and detecting LLVM.
 * the fix to glsl has impact on i965
 * fixes for intel are local to i915 and will not cause regression
 * fixes to radeon should only touch shutdown code
 * fixes to nouveau should be local to kepler gpus

[Other Info]

 * The switch to this mesa release will not enable mir. But it will not enable
unity8 on pentium D and atom, but it will be a step towards that

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1129409] Re: Nvidia and AMD graphics drivers should indicate whether they provide libcuda.so.1, libOpenCL.so.1, etc.

2014-10-22 Thread Alastair Carey
Medium importance? That users can't install fglrx and wine together?
That's a game-breaker for a lot of people, I'd say. A lot more important
than merely medium.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1129409] Re: Nvidia and AMD graphics drivers should indicate whether they provide libcuda.so.1, libOpenCL.so.1, etc.

2014-10-22 Thread Graham Inggs
See: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Bug%20importances

Most bugs are of medium importance, examples are:
* A bug that has a severe impact on a non-core application.
* A problem with a non-essential hardware component (removable network card,
camera, webcam, music player, sound card, power management feature, printer,
etc.)

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1181651] Re: ldconfig problem with 64-bit nvidia driver packages

2014-10-22 Thread Alberto Milone
On 22-10-14 10:28:15, Bruno Nova wrote:
As I don't have a working computer with NVIDIA only, I can't test this
 myself.

It wouldn't change anything, since /usr/lib/nvidia-331-prime/ld.so.conf
already includes both the 32 bit and the 64 bit libraries. Splitting the
two paths into two separate files won't make any difference.

Also, /usr/lib/nvidia-XXX-prime/alt_ld.so.conf could point to the 32-bit Mesa
libraries (but they are not installed by default, so the nvidia-prime could
 recommend libgl1-mesa-glx:i386).

I don't think I can make a 64 bit package depend on (or recommend) a 32
bit package.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver

2014-10-22 Thread Dariusz Gadomski
Hello Elvis,

I have came across something that may interest you, here [1]. The Dell
support person there states that you should have the DSP 1.2 enabled
only on the primary monitor, on the secondary it should be disabled.

Thanks Dariusz,

So yes, I founded that thread too and cleared my doubts about it. I had
my monitors configuration that way while testing the patched kernels
mentioned here.

2014-10-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
goto, bugzilla is legacy, and the wrong venue for this issue, as is noticed
reading through this bug report. If you are having an issue, and so your
hardware and problem may be tracked, please file a new report with Ubuntu by
executing the following in a terminal while booted into the default Ubuntu
kernel (not a mainline one) via:
ubuntu-bug linux

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1074960] Re: [Toshiba L850D-11Z] Backlight keys don't work with fglrx-installer

2014-10-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
bruno pennec, typically bugs are considered fixed when no WORKAROUNDs
are required to have the desired functionality. However, if this works
for you, and you would not like anyone to continue to investigate the
issue as it is in 14.10, please feel free to mark this Status Invalid at
the top of the bug report.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1181651] Re: ldconfig problem with 64-bit nvidia driver packages

2014-10-22 Thread Bruno Nova
Ok, you're right.
I thought that /usr/lib/nvidia-331-prime/ld.so.conf was used only for 64-bit,
but it is indeed used for 32-bit as well.
Same thing for /usr/lib/nvidia-331-prime/ld.so.conf, which point to both 64 and
32 bit mesa libraries.

As I said, you know more about this than me. :)
Sorry to bother you then. You may want to unsubscribe yourself from this bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1384368] Re: slow pc

2014-10-22 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1129409] Re: Nvidia and AMD graphics drivers should indicate whether they provide libcuda.so.1, libOpenCL.so.1, etc.

2014-10-22 Thread Joakim
According to that page, it should be rated as high importance.

* Has a severe impact on a small portion of Ubuntu users (estimated)
Yes, all users who wants to use fglrx and wine.
* A problem with an essential hardware component (disk controller, built-in
networking, video card, keyboard, mouse)
Yes, package conflict for the video card driver.
* Prevents the application or any dependencies from functioning correctly at all
Yes, both wine and fglrx.
* Renders essential features or functionality of the application or
dependencies broken or ineffective
Yes, both wine and fglrx.
* Impacts accessibility of a core application
Yes, fglrx.

You can't even get build-dep for wine.

Nevertheless, fixing this bug should be done before the final release of
Ubuntu 14.10. If it can not be fixed easily, it would be better to
remove the conflicting dependency from wine. Only a few users would be
effected and they can fix it themselves by installing the necessary
packages manually.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1372867] [NEW] Graphics problems on Dell Precision M4800 install

2014-10-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Attempted Ubuntu installation from DVD, version 14.04.1 on a laptop
Dell Precision M4800.

Two scenarios: I and II.

I ) Laptop only. Installation DVD boots but screen remains blank.

II) Second monitor connected on Displayport. Behaviour is then:

1. Bootup animation appears on second monitor
2. Login screen appears on laptop monitor ( IIRC )
2.a ) Login as ubuntu user - Graphical installer goes to reboot loop
2.b) Press CTRL + ALT + F1 - Brings up command line

Two observations:
1. Obviously installer behaviour still needs tweaking on this hardware
2. I could maybe proceed with the install using the command line. I followed
instructions in
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia#Installation_without_X_.2BAC8_from_the_console

and installed nvidia-drivers with
$ sudo apt-get install nvidia-331

Did not yet get a functioning graphical installation environment. Any
tips would be appreciated.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1371834] Re: Chrome causes segfault in i965_dri.so

I can confirm this very annoying bug with i915 driver (on Lenovo x220).

It creates all sorts of graphical difficulties in Chromium (no vsync, no
interpolation of fullscreen videos, and of course no WebGL)

 LIBGL_DRI3_DISABLE=1 is a good fix.
