Public bug reported: After upgrading to utopic (14.10), neither fglrx (nor fglrx-update) works as expected any more. System starts in graphical mode (X11) but driver is fbdev. This is a Asus E2KM1I based system (e2-2000/Radeon HD 7340). fglrx (and fglrx-update) have worked before upgrading. Work-around: Use open source ATI driver. It seems that there's a problem with how unity handles "stretching/repeating" images, assuming that curved side panel is stored as whole image but Panel and bottom parts are streched or repeated to fit desktop. P. S. Have added xorg edgers ppa repository, and am now using the correct nvidia driver 340.46. (see http://www.binarytides.com/install-nvidia-drivers-ubuntu-14-04/). Problem persists. Graphics ard is NVIDIA GT218 (GForce 210) Tried changing from X. Org X driver to NVIDIA 331.89 (from 331 prop. tested).
