[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver
Elvis, thank you for checking this. I assume that the multi-display configuration did not work for you as well as the network? Have you tried running utopic kernel backport on trusty before? Maybe just this backport does not work. Does anybody (with the hardware) have utopic (14.10) installation to try the other pure-utopic kernel? I think it is worth trying since it seems less likely to experience unrelated hardware issues than with running utopic kernel on trusty. In the meantime I will check whether it is possible to backport mst support from 3.14 to 3.13. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1104230 Title: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1104230/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1387562] [NEW] Touchpad settings ignored
Public bug reported: Upgraded from 14.04 to 14.10. Have two-finger scroll and tap to click selected in system settings. When I log in these functions work but seems that as soon as an application is started, including the Dash, two-finger scroll and tap to click stop working. Logging out and back in again restores the functionality but then it is lost as soon as an application starts again. as i understand this askubuntu answer ( http://askubuntu.com/a/473649/18422 ) the underlying issue (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=72795 ) is the same that prevents my thinkpad L540 from recognizing 2 monitors on the dock (i on dock and 1 on laptop-vga works though). i am on current updated utopic. can anyone confirm this? if yes it might be good to update title description to be more precise and attract more collaborators.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1386930] [NEW] mouse unresponsive to clicks after changing users
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Using Ubuntu 14.04 with a PS2 mouse. After logging in to regular user, then logging in to admin, logging back out and logging back in to regular user again the top and side menus are unresponsive to mouse clicks. That is, the left menu bar programs do not respond to mouse left clicks (not sure if right mouse clicks do anything to these menus), including the Ubuntu search center, as well as the top right User options. Mouse clicks work on inside applications, such as Firefox, meaning, Firefox must have been previously open before switching to admin and back because otherwise the mouse can't be used to open Firefox! Programs can be opened from Software center by pressing Alt-F2, typing the name and then pressing Enter at the exact match. Clicking the mouse on the search results is unresponsive. This bug doesn't appear when switching between two regular users, only between initial regular user and admin and back again. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: 14.04 bot-comment mouse trusty ubuntu -- mouse unresponsive to clicks after changing users https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1386930 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Dariusz, Would you like me to update to 14.10 as well and try the utopic patched kernel? I want to upgrade soon, anyway. Or do you need my current 14.04 to test trusty stuff? I have an Intel Haswell based NUC connected over mini-displayport to the display containing the hub, then the second display is plugged in that one over DisplayPort. DisplayPort 1.2 is enabled on the display containing the hub and the second display lights up fine but just works as a clone of the first display, without ever showing up in xrandr, dmesg or any other useful logs I could find. My understanding of MST is that the second display should show up as DP2 on my laptop so I can configure it as I would any other display. UPDATE: Updated the bug report after it was pointed out that the original test hardware, a Lenovo x230 isn't DP 1.2 capable. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1058641] Re: No devices detected radeon regression
I believe I'm dealing with this bug on my G4 iBook with radeon driver, I've got about 640 MB RAM??? Now trying to get 14.04 Lu running after having similar screen freeze issues with 14.10 . . . in 14.10 using agp.mode got me into a GUI, but then the screen would freeze . . . although mouse is moving. Lars N has a similar bug report and I may post over there as well. So, back in 14.04 now, tried to read through ojordan's comments, in trying to look at my Xorg.0.log in Terminal . . . shuts the GUI down-- frozen in space and time. I ran 'Xorg -configure' . . . and it shows radeon and the PCI:0:16:0 . . . but on restart I could open the file manager and got some folders to open in the GUI, but when I opened LXTerminal . . . nothing loaded into the Terminal window. . . screen frozen . . . . I guess next step is to to try to cut the Xorg.conf file down to exactly what ojordan has posted here . . . not expecting that to solve the issue . . . I'll post back when I get that done. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1363623] Re: [ASUS-A7K laptop] screen brightness dimmed after kernel update
I did some more testing and I nailed the change to the 3.15.7 kernel update. I must have confused versions in my initial report. Anyways, looking throught the changelog for that kernel version I found this changeset : commit be907c8468c9f47882036109ba550cd2748b86a0 Author: Alex Deucher alexander.deuc...@amd.com Date: Tue Jul 15 09:48:53 2014 -0400 drm/radeon: set default bl level to something reasonable commit 201bb62402e0227375c655446ea04fcd0acf7287 upstream. If the value in the scratch register is 0, set it to the max level. This fixes an issue where the console fb blanking code calls back into the backlight driver on unblank and then sets the backlight level to 0 after the driver has already set the mode and enabled the backlight. bugs: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=81382 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70207 Signed-off-by: Alex Deucher alexander.deuc...@amd.com Tested-by: David Heidelberger david.heidelber...@ixit.cz Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman gre...@linuxfoundation.org This modified the way the radeon module handles default backlight values. Looking through the first bug report I found out about the radeon.backlight kernel option. Surprisingly, pressing a key does *not* unblank the screen! Machine is still alive (I can ssh into it), and typed keys even reach the console: I can type e.g. ls -lR /usr and I see disk indicator blinking, ls process is visible in the ps in ssh session, etc. This does not happen in X. This is observed on Lenovo T60, on RHEL7 kernel and also on recent upstream kernel 3.15.5. Investigation had revealed that VT unblanking code, after all the hard work it done to turn display back on, calls ATOM_LCD_BLOFF (backlight off, numeric value 2) function. Digging further, I discovered that fb_blank(blank=0) almost at its end calls fb_notifier_call_chain(FB_EVENT_BLANK). Which calls backlight.c::fb_notifier_callback(), which tries to set brightness via radeon_atom_backlight_update_status(), which does atombios_set_backlight_level(radeon_atom_bl_level()), but radeon_atom_bl_level() is zero (it's an uint8_t, brightness level). So it's essentially atombios_set_backlight_level(0) and it switches backlight off. In drivers/gpu/drm/radeon/*, bd-props.brightness, surprisingly, is only set in radeon_atom_backlight_init() and radeon_legacy_backlight_init(), all other locations are only reading it. So, if this init code sets it to 0, then VT unblanking code will use this zero value as brightness to restore, causing this bug. And indeed, that's what happens on the machine exhibiting this bug: [2.301563] radeon_atom_get_backlight_level_from_reg: RADEON_BIOS_2_SCRATCH [2.301633] radeon_atom_get_backlight_level_from_reg: bios_2_scratch: [2.301704] radeon_atom_backlight_init: bd-props.brightness=0 [2.301780] radeon_atom_backlight_update_status: atombios_set_back The full dmesg of the RHEL7 boot with many debug printks added is attached. (Sorry, I started debugging it on RHEL7, I believe mainline does not differ significantly). It shows the following: After setterm -blank 1 sleep 60, VT blanking triggers at ~362 seconds, and at ~370 seconds VT is trying to unblank because of keyboard activity. The bug is evident here: [ 370.852058] fb_blank: fb_notifier_call_chain(FB_EVENT_BLANK)... It happens on first blanking (including Xserver screen blankings, which do not exhibit this bug), and never repeats. Google says it's a known issue on Radeon, comes from PCIe lanes reconfiguration. I am unsure how to proceed from here. Maybe init code needs fixing to properly read backlight brightness on this hardware? I think radeon people are more qualified to take it from here.
