[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1388734] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2014-11-03 Thread float
Public bug reported:

Happens every time I start gnome-do. gnome-do window will alocate some
screen space but not show and only mirror some parts of the background.
Mouse can be moved, even some mouse-over events work. But clicking and
typing is not registered (not even ctrl-alt-f1). Only way to fix the
problem is to ssh in from outside and kill gnome-do. Then everything
works fine again.

If I am right

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1041790]

2014-11-03 Thread Josh Glover
I am also experiencing this, on a Gentoo system running on a ThinkPad
T440s. I'm not doing anything related to XBMC, simply using xrandr for
multihead. The interesting thing is that DRI works fine on my laptop
screen (glxgears reports 60fps, which is the refresh rate of my screen),
but breaks when I move a window trying to use DRI (e.g. Chrome,
glxgears) to the external monitor connected to the mini Display Port
output.

I see this stuff in dmesg:

[ 3561.424762] [drm:ring_stuck] *ERROR* Kicking stuck wait on blitter ring
[ 3561.424770] [drm] GPU crash dump saved to /sys/class/drm/card0/error
[ 3561.424772] [drm] GPU hangs can indicate a bug anywhere in the entire gfx
stack, including userspace.
[ 3561.424774] [drm] Please file a _new_ bug report on bugs.freedesktop.org
against DRI - DRM/Intel
[ 3561.424776] [drm] drm/i915 developers can then reassign to the right
component if it's not a kernel issue.
[ 3561.424778] [drm] The gpu crash dump is required to analyze gpu hangs, so
please always attach it.
[ 3566.422957] [drm:ring_stuck] *ERROR* Kicking stuck wait on blitter ring

[ 3575.423680] [drm:ring_stuck] *ERROR* Kicking stuck wait on blitter ring

Seems like the same issue. I'm trying to downgrade X, mesa, et al., to
try and get the system back in working order.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver

2014-11-03 Thread Dariusz Gadomski
** Description changed:

+ SRU Justification:
+
+ Impact: Many users expect the possibility to use the DP1.2 MST feature which
+ enables them to use a number of different display setups: daisy-chaining
+ DP1.2 displays, some 4K displays appearing as 2 separate displays, 3D
displays.
+ This however is not supported in Ubuntu stable kernel.
+
+ Fix: A series of 18 cherry-picks from v3.17 kernel backported to v3.16 by
+ the original author of the feature: David Airlie.
+
+ Regression Potential: These patches were merged upstream in v3.17 without any
+ reported regressions.
+
+ Original description:
+
  I have two recent DisplayPort monitors, both supporting the 1.2 version
  of the standard and one containing an MST hub (DELL 2913WM).

  I have an Intel Haswell based NUC connected over mini-displayport to the
  display containing the hub, then the second display is plugged in that
  one over DisplayPort.

  DisplayPort 1.2 is enabled on the display containing the hub and the
  second display lights up fine but just works as a clone of the first
  display, without ever showing up in xrandr, dmesg or any other useful
  logs I could find.

  My understanding of MST is that the second display should show up as DP2
  on my laptop so I can configure it as I would any other display.

  UPDATE: Updated the bug report after it was pointed out that the
  original test hardware, a Lenovo x230 isn't DP 1.2 capable. The same
  test on hardware also fails, due to missing support for MST in the
  driver.

2014-11-03 Thread toothbrush
Argh. I am yet another hapless user clamouring for help.

My hardware: Apple MacBook 13 Retina, DPI of 227.
X.Org's infinite wisdom: DPI of 96.

My eyes are now broken, and i find myself tweaking individual apps in
the hope that they'll become usable. Inevitably, proportions become
crooked.

Please please please give us the ability to set DPI to native!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1388647] [NEW] DRI_PRIME=1 has no effect in Ubuntu 14.10

2014-11-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On an Optimus laptop with both GPUs enabled, having run this command so
that the Nvidia GPU can be used to offload 3D work from the Intel GPU:

```
xrandr --setprovideroffloadsink nouveau Intel
```

Then running this command:

```
DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo | grep OpenGL vendor string
```

provides the incorrect output:

```
OpenGL vendor string: Intel Open Source Technology Center
```

when it should actually show that the Nouveau driver is in use for the
program.

This worked previously in Ubuntu 14.04. Apart from only having a 3.16
kernel (instead of 3.17) Ubuntu 14.10 actually supports recent enough
versions of the requisite packages necesarry to get DRI 3 offloading
support, so perhaps this is part of the problem.

Or, more likely, I notice a Nouveau failure after startup, and then
again after running xrandr commands, for example:

```
[  170.912483] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): wlan0: link becomes ready
[  217.550205] thinkpad_acpi: EC reports that Thermal Table has changed
[  831.134832] nouveau E[PBUS][:01:00.0] MMIO read of 0x FAULT
at 0x002140 [ !ENGINE ]
```

Perhaps this is just a regression in either the Nouveau or Intel drivers
for my hardware. I'm using a Lenovo T430. I can confirm that I'm able to
start the laptop without errors when I only enable the Intel GPU or
NVidia GPU separately, and only see this error when both GPUs are
enabled simultaneously.

Extra Info:

1: Description: Ubuntu 14.10
Release:14.10

2: N/A

3: The text 'nouveau' should have appeared in the output of the command.

4: The text 'Intel' appeared in the output of the command.

2014-11-03 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading from 14.04 to 14.10, I sometimes (not sure what triggers
or fixes it) have a double cursor. It persists across applications and
the desktop. When I do a screen capture, the cursor is not visible.

There is one cursor in the right place, and then below and to the right
of it is another cursor, pointing at a different angle, that follows it
around everywhere.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1387562] Re: Touchpad settings ignored

2014-11-03 Thread Captain Zlog
Been looking into this further and found that it only affected affected
one account on the computer - the other accounts worked as expected.
Eventually found that the impacted account had a syndaemon command
running at Startup to disable the touchpad whilst typing, as this
function didn't work in System Settings. However, the setting to Disable
touchpad whilst typing was still set in System Settings. Turning off
this setting seems to have cured the problem. Obviously the original bug
that causes the Disable touchpad whilst typing system setting not to
work still needs to be addressed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1388647] Re: DRI_PRIME=1 has no effect in Ubuntu 14.10

2014-11-03 Thread Pedro Armando
I can confirm the bug with DRI_PRIME
Current setup is Intel Ivy Bridge + AMD Radeon 7730M

Reverting the following packages and their dependencies to their trusty-update
version fixed the issue
(Following packages with their dependencies)
xserver-xorg-input-all
xserver-xorg-input-wacom
xserver-xorg-video-glamoregl
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
xserver-xorg-input-evdev
xserver-xorg-core
xserver-xorg-input-mouse
xserver-xorg-video-vesa
xserver-xorg-video-mach64
xserver-xorg-video-fbdev
xserver-xorg
xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse
xserver-xorg-video-modesetting
xserver-xorg-video-r128

The problem most probably is contained in the package xserver-xorg,
since most of these dependencies shouldn't affect prime (input)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1308105]

2014-11-03 Thread Alexander Schmidt
I'm afraid but Sean's patch, fix_for_bug11107.patch, does not fix the
issue for me. I tried with both git-master
(d532c0f06d4a629aebf11e8bead63617931001d2) and tag 4.11.2
(e329018189663837f2cd9c50807e4376a852cc88). My patch in turn still works
with both said commits.

However, since my patch only addresses the issue's symptoms but not its
actual cause, Sean's patch should be further improved instead of just
using mine.

It's interesting to see that fix_for_bug11107.patch already fixes the
problem for Raj, which makes me think that there's more to this issue
than we understand thus far.

Btw, I tried both enabling and disabling the Configure new displays
when connected feature but that did not have any effect. I'm out of
ideas right now.

My configuration:
Xubuntu 14.04 x64
Kernel 3.13.0-39-generic
Intel Core i5-4590S
Intel driver 2.99.911-0intel1
Monitor attached with a HDMI-to-HDMI cable

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1388928] [NEW] high CPU load and system caught in loop when external monitor connected

2014-11-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When connecting my notebook to a specific projector and changing to the
external display with xrandr (xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1024x768
--output LVDS1 --mode 1024x768), the system is caught in some kind of
loop, with high CPU load and the graphical user interface getting
unresponsive (mouse cursor jumps every few seconds). The problem
disappears when the external display is turned off.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1388430] Re: nvidia-settings closes when pressing 'Apply' button, but changes aren't applied

2014-11-03 Thread Roberto González Correa
1) I have installed driver 304.123 from Nvidia following the
instructions provided at

http://askubuntu.com/questions/451221/ubuntu-14-04-install-nvidia-driver

2) I got the following error message:

The distribution-provided pre-install script failed! Continue
installation anyway?

I chose 'Yes' and the installation process continued and finished,
apparently, successfully.

3) I sent the log file (same file I attach here) to Nvidia Customer Care
support team, and I'm waiting for their feedback now.

4) I was able to change my screen resolution (run gksudo nvidia-
settings, because changing my screen resolution requires root
privileges), so 304.123 seems to solve the issue. If Nvidia technicians
confirm that everything is ok, I think 304.123 should be made available
for Trusty, so any user who need it could install it with the
'Additional Drivers' wizard.

It's all for now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1388647] Re: DRI_PRIME=1 has no effect in Ubuntu 14.10

2014-11-03 Thread Dominic Chambers
That's a clever trick, being able to downgrade dependencies like that.
Any pointers on how one goes about doing it, since even if I add
'trusty' sources to `/etc/apt/sources.list' then I still only see a
single version available to install if I run `apt-show-versions xserver-
xorg`?

Anyway, great work narrowing it down so quickly!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1388738] Re: No cursor while compositing

2014-11-03 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello,

I confirm that I also have this bug. But I don't know if this bug report is a
duplicate of bug #1238410 because I only have this bug after updates on Ubuntu
Vivid.
It seems that the bug #1238410 is an old one and it should be fixed on Ubuntu
Vivid.

PS: thank you for the workaround ;-)

I just removed the duplicated status but I don't know if this bug is
due to xserver-xorg-video-intel.

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 1238410

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1388738] Re: No cursor while compositing

2014-11-03 Thread PeterPall
Thanks a lot!

Since the last bug that was similar was caused by gsettings-daemon was somehow
lost how it is supposed to tell xserver-xorg it wants to be informed reliably
when the mouse pointer moves I honestly don't know if I assigned it to the
right package: I think it was fixed on gsettings-daemon's side.
... and the credits for the workaround doesn't go to me: Found the solution at
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/24970776/the-mouse-works-fine-but-it-does-not-display-in-ubuntu-14-04-arm-beagleboard-xm
 after googling for about an hour without using the mouse.

Kind regards,

Gunter.
