[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1368392] Re: NV10, NV20 Bad / Missing Graphics and Icons
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 748184 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/748184 as this bugreport exactly fits to the issues i see with my system, i`m posting this mail here for reference. the bug is fixed for 4 months in upstream, so i`m curious why it`s still not fixed in ubuntu. Gesendet: Samstag, 29. November 2014 um 21:25 Uhr Von: devz...@web.de An: maarten.lankho...@ubuntu.com, r...@ubuntu.com Cc: svenj...@gmx.de Betreff: please include important fix for older nvidia gfx card apparently there are five open bugtickets related to this - sorry, did not find them before this mail - and would have reported it there otherwise https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/748184 also see https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+question/254272 Hi, i`m using a ubuntu based distro (mint) and having issues with graphics after installing it on older PC`s. icons or other graphics elements are missing, for example in the file explorer or in the xfce4 welcome screen as i have several older graphics cards, i recognized that the problem only appeared on older nvidia geforce graphics cards i spent two hours digging into this and found, that it`s a known upstream issue and resolved: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51477 http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/nouveau/2014-August/018271.html Could you please consider including this tiny but effective fix into current supported releases, i.e. put that into xf86-video-nouveau ? I have taken a look at the source of 1.0.10 and it seems there is no need for backporting this fix, i.e. the fix should also work for 1.0.10 wihout to much programming effort. I think especially all users of older hardware with nvidia geforce and lighteweight ubuntu based distro like mint xfce, lubunut, xubuntu will be very happy about this... thank you! regards Roland ps: if you are not the right persons to talk to , please tell me how to proceed. i´m somewhat new to ubuntu. ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #51477 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51477 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1368392 Title: NV10, NV20 Bad / Missing Graphics and Icons To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/1368392/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1318202] Re: System won't boot unless nomodeset option is selected [ubuntu 14.04]
We had intermittent boot failures with Radeon 4000 chipsets using the radeon driver. Setting nomodeset cleared the issue, but the box came up in the wrong resolution. Finally it seems to have been fixed by updating to the utopic kernel (at which point it boots without requiring nomodeset), so is this a known kernel bug, that I cannot find? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1390234] Re: Unity desktop misbehaves with applications that use direct rendering with the FGLRX driver
** Description changed: I've been using Ubuntu 14.10 for a while now, and I ended up switching to the FGLRX driver for performance reasons. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5742G-7353 with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 video chip on it. I have noticed that some applications (So far, I've only seen Blender and Chromium do this) displays a little bit (maybe 10-20 pixels?) to the right when maximized. The drivers that are available from the ATI website worked fine, but I had to use the version from the repos since it no longer works with 14.10. Problem only exists in the repo version. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2225451 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2241392 + + Edit: I have switched to KDE and seen it happen in Blender with kwin + compositing on. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1273234] Re: 8086:a011 [HP Mini 110-3100] Can't control screen brightness
Jaime Pérez, just to advise, please do not mark any files as a patch unless they are in their final form, and can immediately be released into the appropriate Ubuntu repository as outlined in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Patches . A patch copied from external location, or possible/test/draft patches wouldn't fix this criteria. However, as the scope of this bug report was only the hardware you originally reported against (HP Mini 110-3140ss PC), this bug report is being closed due to your last comment https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- intel/+bug/1273234/comments/19 regarding you are no longer using it. Please file a new report against your Asus X200LA-CT012H via a terminal: ubuntu-bug xorg Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information. For more on this, please see the official Ubuntu documentation: Ubuntu X.Org Team, Ubuntu Bug Control, and Ubuntu Bug Squad: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/BestPractices#X.2BAC8-Reporting.Focus_on_One_Issue Ubuntu Community: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette When opening up the new report, please feel free to subscribe me to it. For future reference you can manage the status of your own bugs by clicking on the current status in the yellow line and then choosing a new status in the revealed drop down box. You can learn more about bug statuses at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Status. Thank you again for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1400013] [NEW] fglrx_drv.so crashes with HD 5450
Public bug reported: I installed fglrx via jockey (Alternative Drivers). On reboot I got the message that X was running in low graphics mode. Google has several hits for swlDrmAllocateOffscreenMem+0xe so it looks like I am not the only one finding this crash. Can fglrx-updates be switched to a newer driver release?
