[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver

2015-01-05 Thread Ben Hearsum
Sorry for the long delay response. I just tested the 3.16.0-28 kernel
and unfortunately it doesn't even detect all of my displays correctly --
it only shows 1 external monitor in the display settings rather than
both. I get picture on both of them, but I can't set them up correctly
any more.

2015-01-05 Thread Dariusz Gadomski
Ben, unfortunately this is the default Ubuntu kernel without this
feature.

You need to use version 3.16.0-28.37hf73386v20141212b2 to be able to
benefit from it.

Do install this version you should do:
sudo apt-get install
linux-image-3.16.0-28-generic=3.16.0-28.37hf73386v20141212b2

and then choose this kernel from the GRUB boot menu.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1384515] Re: Laptop screen dims on logout

2015-01-05 Thread Jack Fromm
Per a suggestion on the xubuntu-devel IRC channel, I tested the intel
xorg-edgers ppa driver -- to no avail.

Next suggestion was to try a later kernel. First, I did a fresh install
of the current vivid daily image and confirmed that problem was still
present. Then I installed the latest 3.17 kernel and that did seem to
resolve the problem. So for the heck of it, I then installed the latest
3.19 RC and it's working okay with that one too.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1364630] Re: init: Error while reading from descriptor: Broken pipe

2015-01-05 Thread Paul Abrahams
After poking around I learned that the cure is to install a correction
to the Intel microcode. That in turn requires installing theintel-
microcode 2.20140913.1ubuntu2 source package, which is available from
Launchpad. However, I haven't yet figured out how to actually do that.
The Archlinux folks have some information on this subject. I didn't
realize that Linux actually has the ability to install mods to the Intel
microcode.

If any one else decides to follow through on this, please post your
findings here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1405118] Re: Keyboard layout changes randomly for no reason

2015-01-05 Thread Nikita Yerenkov-Scott
Well it keeps on randomly changing, and this means that I might be
writing an email and I am putting in an at symbol, and I put in the at
symbol using the key on my keyboard with the at symbol picture on it.
And my keyboard layout is set so that pressing that key will give me
that at symbol. But 5 minutes later the keyboard layout may have changed
to US (from UK) and when I press the key which should give me that at
symbol, I get a double-quote. And sometimes it will change back, and
sometimes it won't for a few hours. Sometimes it is after a restart,
sometimes not.

And it is not just the at symbol changing to the double-quote symbol,
but it is true for every key that changes with the new keyboard layout.
And in the menu for changing languages it still shows English (UK) so
I cannot even manually change it back.

This is just something which is really annoying. And it becomes
impossible to touch-type because I don't know which symbol key will give
me which symbol.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1407763] [NEW] System crash Xubuntu 14.10 on i5-3337U CPU

2015-01-05 Thread Christof Löwe
Public bug reported:

System is not running stable, it crashes (freezes) sooner or later.
Sometimes with virtual console on screen, saying

“not syncing: fatal exception in interrupt
drm_kms_helper:: panic occurred, switching back to text console”

 - sometimes without console appearing. No more input possible (no
sysrq), just hard reset.

Apparently this is caused by i915 driver. It always happens with
applications with a bit higher graphics performance requirements, e.g.
watching DVB-T-TV in a little me-tv- or vlc-window and browsing the
Internet at the same time. Initially core temperature and fan speed
rise, and then follows the exitus follows.

Same experience on Xubuntu 14.04 and Kubuntu 14.04. The reason why i
file this against Utopic is that i have altered my Trusty-Systems with
Intel Drivers from 01.org (see below).

The following attempts did not improve the thing:

Trying “Intel Graphics Installer” from 01.org 1.0.7 within the Trusty
Systems.

Trying (alone and with Intel Drivers) Mainline Kernel 3.18.1. But of
course initally with regular Utopic 3.16.

It may be of interest that on the very same machine the OS “Siduction”
(Debian Unstable Rolling Release) runs without any problems or concerns
(currently Kernel 3.18 and xorg-packages from Debian Sid branch). The
computer is the Asus Vivopc VM-60, CPU i5-3337U.
