[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1408445] [NEW] Wake up and Wired adapter problems
Public bug reported: I had left my computer with my Ethernet connection in and I don't have the correct wireless drivers so I cannot use that, and my computer went to sleep with my Ethernet wired connection still in, and when I tried to wake my computer as normal by pressing the power button it made noises and it stopped glowing as it does when the computer is sleeping, but the screen was still black. I then after waiting for about 30 seconds, pressed it again and then finally the screen came on and it asked me if I wanted to shutdown, restart or suspend, and as I had clicked the power button again to just wake it up properly (it has never happened before that pressing the power button once does not work) I closed that dialog. I then typed my password in in the log-in screen and it logged me in and I was still logged into some online services and I tried to log out of them and it told me that there was no internet connection. I then had a look at my connection status and it said something like "Networking Disabled", and the "Enable Networking" option did not have a tick next to it, so I ticked it, but this made no difference other than adding a tick next to the option in the pull-down menu from the bar at the top right. I went into the "Network" options in System Settings and it said that there was a connection, but that it was "Unmanaged". I was spooked by all this so I restarted my machine and all works fine now. But I thought that I should file a report anyway as this is not normal and not meant to happen. And if it happened permanently then I would have no internet access and would have to start in-depth debugging in the system which would probably take lots of time and effort. It was also a little worrying that it would not wake up immediately. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1400730] Re: libxext fills up .xsession-errors log files
I'm suffering the same problem and I've applied the suggested upstream patch in my personal PPA: https://launchpad.net/~tanty/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+packages However, I don't think this is a proper fix for the problem I'm observing. When the problem was happening and tons of error is "_xgeWireToEvent: Unknown extension 148, this should never happen" messages were spitted, everything was going much slower in the affected application. With the fix, the application now is mute about this problem but it is still clearly slower. Hence, the error is still happening it is just that we are not seeing the error messages any more. Is this error a regression in libXext ? In my case, I'm specially seeing it in a custom compilation of epiphany, the GNOME Browser, from upstream. It seems to be affecting webkitgtk+ ... I've just upgraded from Trusty and I was not suffering this problem before with the same custom compilation of epiphany. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libxext in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1400730 Title: libxext fills up .xsession-errors log files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libxext/+bug/1400730/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
