[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412602] Re: No live DE in Vivid using nouveau w/GeForce 7025/nForce 630a

2015-01-19 Thread Erick Brunzell
Here's what Ubuntu GNOME Vivid 20150119 i386 boots to when it should
display Try or Install. I was able to enter the advanced boot menu and
run check disc for defects so I know it's not just a bad burn.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1315285] Re: [AMD Richland + Mars] Unable to switch graphics

2015-01-19 Thread Chih-Hsyuan Ho
And in other AMD A+A platforms such as [AMD Richland + Mars], which this
issue was originally reported against, switchable graphics works with
the latter Catalyst driver (14.502, earlier drivers may also work but
not verified) after disabling gpumanager so that the X configuration is
not further overwritten by it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1315285] Re: [AMD Richland + Mars] Unable to switch graphics

2015-01-19 Thread Chih-Hsyuan Ho
According to AMD engineering, the A+A platforms based on Mullings and
Beema chipsets do NOT support switchable graphics. It is made clear that
in their GUI configuration tool (AMDCCCLE), no such option exists for
such platforms.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1387134] Re: when enabled nvidia graphics card, desktop freezes

2015-01-19 Thread Zdenek
I have probably the same issue. System freezes and I have to do hard
power off (did not try ctrl+alt+f1 or external mouse). I tried to switch
of nvidia and seems it works few hours without freeze. If it occurs I
will try to get some logs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412602] [NEW] No live DE in Vivid using nouveau w/GeForce 7025/nForce 630a

2015-01-19 Thread Erick Brunzell
Public bug reported:

I've been testing the Ubuntu GNOME Vivid daily images in anticipation of
Alpha 2 and I noticed that with this specific hardware I get no graphics
at all other than a blank screen (see attached photo):

AMD Sempron Processor LE-1250 @ 2.2 GHz
nVidia C61 [GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a] (rev a2)
nVidia MCP61 High Definition Audio (rev a2)
nVidia MCP61 Ethernet (rev a2)
2GB DDR2 RAM

In fact I never even get as far as the screen offering to Try or
Install, but I can enter the Advanced Boot Options screen and select
either Try or Install from there, but with both options I still get the
same blank screen.

Further testing reveals the same results with Ubuntu and Ubuntu GNOME
but I found that both the Xubuntu and Lubuntu images will boot properly
on this box so I installed Lubuntu and then installed the ubuntu-
desktop, ubuntu-gnome-desktop, and gnome-session-flashback meta-packages
just to try some things.

After doing so I found that the Unity, GNOME Shell, Gnome Classic, and
Flashback w/Compiz sessions produce broken graphics just as the Ubuntu
GNOME and Ubuntu live images do. So basically Compiz and Mutter both
fail to display any usable UI. OTOH both the Lubuntu and Flashback
w/Metacity sessions work just fine.

I next opened the Additional drivers UI and chose nvidia-304.125
(current) and all DE's perform quite well with the proprietary drivers
so I deduced that nouveau might be the culprit.

The last known working Ubuntu and Ubuntu GNOME live images are 14.04.1.
I hadn't tried Utopic on this box yet but it's also a fail. I'll try the
proposed 14.04.2 images ASAP (probably after Vivid Alpha 2 is released).

But I see no point in trying to fix this for Utopic (or even 14.04.2 if
it's effected) because of the 9 month life-cycle for Utopic and the
continued availability of the 14.04.1 images. In fact I'd be cool with
this not being fixed until 16.04 as long as it's documented so people
know what versions will and will not work.

I'm probably forgetting something but that's all I can think of ATM.
Sorry in advance if I did this totally wrong.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412594] [NEW] System hangs when kstart used in autostart script

2015-01-19 Thread Paul Abrahams
Public bug reported:

I was trying to use kstart to start three programs in three different desktops
after login, like this:
  kstart --desktop 1 firefox
  kstart --desktop 2 kmail
  kstart --desktop 3 konsole
After (apparently) executing the script, the system hung solidly. I tried this
more elaborate version of the same thing:
  #! /bin/sh
  kstart --desktop 1 firefox &
  kstart --desktop 2 kmail &
  kstart --desktop 3 konsole &
  exit
but the behavior was the same.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1386721] Re: Graphics Slow After Upgrade 14.04 - 14.10

2015-01-19 Thread svenmeier
I did a fresh install on an empty system without downloads (no internet
connection) and without restricted-extras.

Live-CD Gnome was fast as usual, rebooting into the installed system
left me with a slow desktop.

So this should be a bug in the Linux kernel, Direct Rendering Manager's,
Dinamic Power Management feature.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 881526] Re: AMD graphics hardware hangs with an homogeneous coloured screen or blank screen, and with chirp coming from the graphics card

2015-01-19 Thread Alberto Salvia Novella
Because this normally happens after first boot, but not in posterior
ones, I greatly suspect this is a hardware bug.

Probably this is happening because of the GPU passing from a cold state
to a warm state too fast, under graphic demanding operations as watching
videos are.

And Windows users won't be experiencing this as the GPU doesn't stay in
a maximum power state all the time.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1386721] Re: Graphics Slow After Upgrade 14.04 - 14.10

2015-01-19 Thread Logan Fleur
During upgrading, updates were downloading alongside the image, perhaps an
undocumented bug lies in one of those? Or is it the usual discrepancy
between the live-CD and an installation?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412550] [NEW] After waking up from sleep nouveau fails on start of OpenGl app

2015-01-19 Thread Miro Janosik
Public bug reported:

First I want to say:
Bug was reported on https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=88515
Fix was found, but it is in newer version of kernel (3.19-rc2 or rc3) than is
available in Ubuntu 14.04LTS (3.13.0-43)
So it is up to Ubuntu team if this fix gets into 14.04LTS (I hope it does, I
don't want to live with RC kernel forever :) )

About bug:
After waking up from sleep desktop and everything works. Nouveau has errors on
starting any 3D/OpenGl application (even 3d screensaver or glxgears) and does
not start the application. Application freezes, if it is fullscreen then it is
not possible to do anything. In that case can't switch to alt+f2 console
either. If 3d application was running during sleep then it hangs but keeps
running.
After reboot everything is working again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412441] [NEW] [MIR] libclc

2015-01-19 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
Public bug reported:

Availability:
- Already in universe and available on applicable archs.

Rationale:
- Allows enabling support for OpenCL in mesa.

Security:
- No files installed suid, sgid.
- No binaries installed in sbin.
- Not a plugin to security sensitive software.
- Not a daemon or opening a sensitive port.

Quality assurance:
- Should work without configuration.
- No debconf questions.
- No long-term outstanding bugs and updates by debian.

The status of important bugs in Debian's, Ubuntu's, and upstream's bug
tracking systems must be evaluated. Links to these bug trackers need to be
provided in the MIR report. Important bugs must be pointed out and discussed in
the MIR report.
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?ordering=normal;archive=0;src=libclc;dist=unstable;repeatmerged=0
 - No open bugs found.
1 bug found in ubuntu's bug tracker. Likely a user error because with manual
bug verification it's shown that the bug is invalid.
Package is used for nvidia and r600 opencl support.
Testsuite cannot run, it requires the proprietary nvidia drivers.
debian/watch is empty, but explained in debian/watch why.

UI standards:
Not applicable.

Dependencies:
clang is in universe, but the clang source package llvm is in main.

Standards compliance:
Should meet standard, no lintian overrides or warnings.

Maintenance:
Simple package, low maintenance effort, and maintained well in Debian.

Background information:
Required to enable opencl support in mesa. Mesa will need clang too, so the
added deps will be needed.

** Affects: libclc (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Assignee: Maarten Lankhorst (mlankhorst)
 Status: New

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1246683] Re: Middle button does not work for scrolling

2015-01-19 Thread Julian Kalinowski
Is the suggested patch the same that is included in this ppa?
https://launchpad.net/~bjornt/+archive/ubuntu/evdev

I'm using the above ppa, and it works fine, however, there is no
synclient, which makes on-the-fly reconfiguration difficult.

Please also attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log with gpu-manager enabled and
disabled, so that I can compare the two logs.
