[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1417850] [NEW] Resume from suspend to black screen with mouse pointer on Thinkpad Helix

2015-02-03 Thread Edward Z. Yang

This is a fresh 13.10 install on a new Thinkpad Helix. The error is

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1417651] Re: Lenovo W520: display for one screen stretched over both when docked

+ Did this problem occur in a version of the nvidia driver prior to 331.113?
+ Does this problem occur with the latest version of the nvidia driver

** Tags added: latest-bios-1.42

** Description changed:

When using the proprietary Nvidia drivers, the output from one window is
- often stretched to cover both by Unity. Other window managers don't
- have this problem, and if you manually configure the display output
- locations and sizes in ccsm, Unity displays it correctly. One thing
- that I noticed is that the standard xrandr-based Displays panel in
- System Settings shows both outputs, but nvidia-settings shows only the
- external monitor.

This is a horrible bug, and no one wants to seem to fix it.
Here's my "version":

Thanks for the VDPAU_DRIVER tip, very appreciated.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1417726] [NEW] After resumnig from sleep, playing videos doesn't work

2015-02-03 Thread zzarko
Public bug reported:

This started a few weeks ago, after some update I guess. When my machine
resumes from sleep, if I try to play video in any player I have
installed (vlc, smplayer, totem), all I get for a picture is a black
screen. Sound is going, just there is no picture. I can get very
flickering and unwatchable picture if I choose some OpenGL-based
renderer (in smplayer). Sometimes, if I turn on or off second monitor,
playing works for a while. The only way to enable playback is to restart
X (logout/login or computer restart), which is geting quite tiresome
because I need to close all my programs and open them again.

I'm not sure if this is xorg, Unity or driver bug, but it really bugs
me.

Re-opening.

ocl-icd (LP: #1382086) and khronos-opencl-headers (LP: #1382091) have both now
been included in main.
There are now many packages in Ubuntu that can make use of OpenCL:
bfgminer, erlang, wine, starpum viennacl, among others

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 135715] Re: X Should Use Logrotate

2015-02-03 Thread Ken Sharp
This isn't a duplicate at all. The other bug is asking for MORE log
files, not for them to be rotated.

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 274870
Xorg should keep more rotated logs

** Description changed:

- Wishlist item!
-
- Sometimes, especially when crashes/reboots are involved, two log files
- (/var/log/Xorg.0.log and /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old) just ain't enough.
-
[Almost] every other log file in /var/log uses logrotate... couldn't
  X.org do likewise?

I understand that this isn't a high-priority item, but it would be
  really great.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1402551] Re: High memory usage of Xorg and kwin after Xorg security updates [nvidia]

2015-02-03 Thread Bernhard
- I have tested a fresh installation (via usb-stick) of Kubuntu 12.04.x
with nvidia driver 331.113-0ubuntu0.0.0.3 and 304.125-0ubuntu0.0.0.1 ,
but I cannot reproduce the problem there (a few hours of testing).

But with a fresh user on the affected installation, the memory leak
occurs.

- On my Office PC (12.04.x) with nvs300 the problem is gone, but I don't know
why. (nvidia driver 304.125-0ubuntu0.0.0.1)
There was a kernel update linux-image-3.2.0-75-generic, but I don't know if
this is connected. I installed and reinstalled several times different kernels.

- On my Home PC (GT 430) the problem is still there;

That's why I have upgraded to the latest Ubuntu LTS version 14.04.x
There I installed the Utopic(14.10) kernel (3.16) with the Utopic xstack
(Xserver 1.16.x) with latest nvidia 346.35 driver (with the default settings),
but still the problem, but now with a crash after growing of kwin and xorg.

Memory consumption after ~ 16 hours of normal working, then after 30 min after
the xrestop measurement => crash and restart of the xserver (log attached)
(Full HD resolution with KDE-effects enabled (on the office pc I have exactly
the same effects with the same settings)).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1417651] [NEW] Lenovo W520: display for one screen stretched over both when docked

2015-02-03 Thread Rockwalrus
Public bug reported:

When using the proprietary Nvidia drivers, the output from one window is
often stretched to cover both by Unity. Other window managers don't
have this problem, and if you manually configure the display output
locations and sizes in ccsm, Unity displays it correctly. One thing
that I noticed is that the standard xrandr-based Displays panel in
System Settings shows both outputs, but nvidia-settings shows only the
external monitor.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1400626] Re: Please backport xtrans, libdrm, x11proto-{fonts, core} packages for 14.04.2

2015-02-03 Thread Timo Jyrinki
I could not reproduce what comment #15 said, only the correct packages
were pulled when I upgraded with:

sudo apt install libgles2-mesa-lts-utopic libglapi-mesa-lts-utopic
linux-generic-lts-utopic xserver-xorg-lts-utopic libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-
utopic libegl1-mesa-drivers-lts-utopic libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-utopic:i386

However, I can confirm comment #13 in that the Mesa packages miss the
Provides: so I lost my qtbase5-dev and can't reinstall it.

Other than that, all seems functioning well.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1417612] [NEW] Why some Fn keys (like PowerOff) are un-mappable (and how to map them anyway)?

2015-02-03 Thread Adam Ryczkowski
Public bug reported:

There are keys, that gets captured by the `xev` or `acpi_listen` and
which does produce a valid entry in keyboard-mapping settings gui when
user is asked to press it for new accelerator key, but the action is not
triggered by pressing them afterwards.

The most irritating example is the `PowerOff` key, but I can list other,
un-named Fn+... keys.

Since the GUI was able to read the key-press event, why the Ubuntu
cannot actually make this key to trigger an event?

I did disable Ubuntu's own PowerOff handler with `gsettings set
org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power button-power "nothing"`.

How to map the PowerOff key?

Actually, I need to map the PowerOff key into the End key, but I guess
being able to map it to *anything* is a first step .

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1388612]

2015-02-03 Thread Janus
Regarding the GPU reset, it is in Linux since 3.19-rc1. So if your GPU
is not resetting after crashing, upgrade your kernel. Ubuntu has
mainline Linux kernel dpkg packages that work well.

This is the patching commit:
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/656bfa3afc14e45e2d9e1624bf60d79b3beb12f2

It sounds like everyone's GPU's are resetting, so I'm wondering if maybe
the Ubuntu guys backported this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1388612]

2015-02-03 Thread shacharr
I can verify that using updated linux kernel (3.19-rc6) and libmesa
(10.5.0~git20150127.5c83a0d2-0ubuntu0ricotz~trusty ), chrome and firefox
do not crash the system. I tried Google Inbox in chrome, where scrolling
for few minutes was crashing the system, and no crash. I tried going to
youtube in google chrome, fiddled around with the videos there, and no
crash.

Going in firefox to google.com/chrome/ causes a GPU hang (will attach
GPU state dump soon), however the new GPU reset code works well and the
system is still functional afterwards. Should I file a new bug on this
crash?

Newbie here. I tried the same thing as Jamie Jackson but it keeps crashing.
I have a freshly installed Ubuntu 14.04
This happens everytime when I try to visit "google.com/chrome" with Firefox and
when I try to watch a YouTube video with Google Chrome.

I'm not sure if this means that you have also not actually upgraded to
the fixed packages as Jamie Jackson indicated. Please dpkg -l libgl1
-mesa-dri and check that the installed version is equivalent to the mesa
version listed on xorg-edgers: https://launchpad.net/~xorg-

Thanks, Ryan. I had high hopes for dist-upgrade; alas, it didn't seem to
work.

Let me know if I did something wrong, or if I'm barking up the wrong
tree, but here's what I got:

# show currently installed version (mine showed 10.1.3-0ubuntu0.3 for amd64 and
i386)
dpkg -l libgl1-mesa-dri
# add edgers repo
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
# get the new package lists
sudo apt-get update
# install the edgers packages
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
# show currently installed version (my packages now show 10.5.0~git20150127)
dpkg -l libgl1-mesa-dri
# reboot
sudo reboot

Not sure if the Chrome/YouTube still persisted after that, because that
was intermittent--I never had a 100% reliable Chrome test case, which is
why I was using the reliable Firefox case.

Thanks for putting the pieces together for me, Ryan. I seem to have
success now. (My package management is probably pretty weird as a
result, but I'm going to ignore that.)

For the other n00bs, here was the final piece:

mkdir -p /tmp/kernel && cd /tmp/kernel
wget
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.19-rc5-vivid/linux-image-3.19.0-031900rc5-generic_3.19.0-031900rc5.201501180935_amd64.deb

sudo dkpg -i linux-image*
# In truth, I did this next one in GDebi, after I ran
# into a problem that "sudo apt-get install -f" fixed
sudo dpkg -i linux-headers*
sudo reboot

uname -a # yields:Linux minty 3.19.0-031900rc5-generic #201501180935 SMP Sun

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1388612]

2015-02-03 Thread Alexsecret
I installed the latest available drivers and Mesa 10.5.0 from xorg-
edgers today (Jan 28, 2015) on my system and the results SO FAR and
after quite extensive and repetitive tests are:

glmark2 : fixed
glmark2-es2 : fixed

Chrome
webstore : fixed
www.google.com/chrome : fixed
youtube videos: fixed

I will continue running tests though, since the new Chrome 40 seems to
have screen drawing issues when I change to a different workspace and
back to the one Chrome is in and every time Chrome is minimized and
restored. Clicking anywhere on the desktop and back on the Chrome
window refreshes it though and it goes back to normal.

Thanks anyway! ;-)

Jamie Jackson, having read you issue with www.google.com/chrome, I've
visited the site at least 10 times using Chrome after yesterday's

Hi.
On Archlinux 3.18.4-1-ARCH, with mesa 10.4.3-1, the crashes caused by chrome
have gone away. However, visiting google.com/chrome on firefox now causes the
same crash that chrome used to cause.

Jamie, your uname -a output indicates that you haven't installed a kernel that
contains the other part of the fix.
Go here: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
Pick a kernel >= v3.19-rc1 and install the proper debs. Then make sure you
choose that kernel at your bootloader.
