[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1308105]
I would only suggest to prospective testers to first try out Xfce4-Settings GIT (hence with Olivier's recent fix) with *no patch*. At least here it fixes the issue, and maybe this addresses your concerns, too. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1308105 Title: Xfce resets TV mode to NULL when power cycled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+bug/1308105/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1308105] Re: Xfce resets TV mode to NULL when power cycled
With the current git-master (xfce4-settings 8adbd2e2463f5cc46c7ed94c0acf264155476268) and NO patches the issue does not occur for me. That is, neither when powering my HDMI-connected screen off and on again nor when physically disconnecting and reconnecting it. However, I cannot even reproduce the original issue anymore. Weird! My current configuration: Xubuntu 14.04 x64 Kernel 3.13.0-45-generic Intel Core i5-4590S Intel driver 2.99.911-0intel1 Monitor attached with a HDMI-to-HDMI cable Things that indeed changed: - new, different mainboard (the old one died some weeks ago due to a power supply voltage peak) - new but identical CPU (died due to the same reason) - upgraded packages from the official Xubuntu 14.04 sources (got no related PPAs or such, so it's just regular updates) - new kernel version (probably does not matter) Btw, my machine is not a laptop, so I'm down to 0 outputs when physically disconnecting my screen (I kind of remember this being relevant in the source code).
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1420600] [NEW] Vivid liveusb cursor disappears while desktop loads and reappears minutes later (hp mini netbook)
Public bug reported: HP mini 110 netbook, 2gb ram. The daily live for feb 9 and 10 have shown this behaviour. Md5sum verified. When running the liveusb the cursor disappears around when the panel loads and reappears something like 8 minutes later. The install/try window loads about a minute in to the desktop loading. The install/try window can be navigated with the keyboard while the cursor is absent. The boot process follows this approximate timeline: * The desktop loads and the cursor is visible for a few seconds * The cursor goes away and the panel gradually loads * 40-50 seconds later, the try/install window appears * Approximately 8 minutes later (yes, i timed this), the cursor will appear when the mousepad is touched. If the mousepad is not touched, the cursor will not appear on its own. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1308105] Re: Xfce resets TV mode to NULL when power cycled
Hi Everyone, I'm glad to have found this thread (Many thanks to ToZ in forum.xfce.org): https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=9391 My problem is I read so many possible solutions that I really don't know what to do. I have an intel onboard graphics card and if I turn off TV i have blank screen when later I switch it on again (Xubuntu 14.04) What is the procedure you reccomend me to do? From last posts here it seems to be a fixed releaded, how do I install? I've make a recopilation of all the possible solutions I've read here: FIRST - Use this script when problem happends: == #!/bin/sh #Fix TV state when HDMI link is lost. #By Mario Limonciello email address hidden OUTPUT=HDMI-0 BAD_MODE=1280x720 GOOD_MODE=1920x1080 for MODE in $BAD_MODE $GOOD_MODE; do DISPLAY=:0 xrandr --output $OUTPUT --mode $MODE sleep 2 done == My question is: How can I run the script when HDMI link is lost if I've no video signal? SECOND - install gnome-settings-daemon and launch on system boot. It seems too easy to be true, hehe, Do i try? THIRD - killall xfsettingsd In my case I can leave computer on with desktop on screen, so I can't do this on any program boot. Whose are the consequences of killing this application on system boot? I've read it can causes an undesired problem, fonts are unreadable (could cause some problem with image quality) FOUR - Using DVI cable instead of HDMI I could use a DVI to HDMI cable, at last I can get sound from it, althought I'd prefer maintaining the DVI connection. FIVE - downgrade xfce-settings to the 4.11.0 package from Saucy, and locked it at that version (4.11.3 causes the problem). How can I do this? SEVEN - Create xorg.conf and add those lines: Option ConnectedMonitor DFP1 Option UseDisplayDevice DFP1 OR Option ConnectedMonitor DFP-0 Option UseDisplayDevice DFP-0 to the devices section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Only for nVidia cards EIGHT - Install a patched 4.11.3 (from my PPA here: https://launchpad.net/~landronimirc/+archive/ubuntu/collection , includes fix_for_bug11107.patch). The person who told this seems to not have solved with this procedure. How can I do this? I mean, How can I Install this patched version. NINE - Sean's patch, fix_for_bug11107.patch I don't know where to download it from or how to install, it seems to be explained in next option (TEN) TEN - Alexander's patch, also Sean's, explained here: For Ubuntu 14.04, this is how your you can build xfsettings with the patches: sudo apt-get install xfce4-dev-tools libexo-1-dev libgarcon-1-0-dev libxfce4ui-1-dev git clone git://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-settings cd xfce4-settings curl https://bugzilla.xfce.org/attachment.cgi?id=5681 alexander-patch.diff curl https://bugzilla.xfce.org/attachment.cgi?id=5723 sean-patch.diff Choose a patch to Apply: patch -p1 patch ./autogen.sh make sudo make install /usr/local/bin/xfsettings --replace If you wanna to try other patch, first remove what's applied: patch -R -p1 applied patch After playing, remember to remove the installed xfsettings: sudo make uninstall How to test?: - if I do `/usr/bin/xfsettingsd --replace` (4.11.3), then I can easily replicate the crash - if I do `/usr/local/bin/xfsettingsd --replace` (GIT master with Sean's updated patch), the I can no longer replicate the crash Problem: Mirror display is not available. So I would really thank if someone can lend me a hand Regards and thanks in advance -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1308105 Title: Xfce resets TV mode to NULL when power cycled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+bug/1308105/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1269260] Re: 8086:0166 [Lenovo ThinkPad X230] x hangs after standby
oualeju4mhfn, as per http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x230 an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2.62). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status Confirmed. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags removed: bios-outdated-2.59 ** Tags added: bios-outdated-2.62 ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1269260 Title: 8086:0166 [Lenovo ThinkPad X230] x hangs after standby To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1269260/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 49521] Re: Screen locks up black on laptop lid close.
Lenovo W530 Close screen, and the machine locks. No amount of keystrokes can unlock the screen - ctrl/alt/f1 does nothing, neither does c/a/del, c/a/bkspc, reisub... nothing. Oddly though - function key + spacebar will still cycle through the backlight on the keyboard. I see that this bug set to expire in 1 day if no further action takes place... I have already wiped 14.04 off my home machine because of all the issues, and the laptop is next now more so than ever. I would never have bothered posting yet another bug report, but I saw another Lenove W530 in this thread, and I figured maybe somebody will be able to at get this issue fixed if it is hardware related... however, it was working just fine a month ago, so who knows what's causing it now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/49521 Title: Screen locks up black on laptop lid close. Thanusha Rameshwara Irugalbandara, thank you for taking the time to report this and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. The behavior you expected, and 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thank you for your understanding. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1272260 Title: 36 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1272260/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1272300] Re: Problem with fonts and cell settings
john, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal: cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a new report, you would be affected by https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line: sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf and comment out the line: 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], by changing it to: # 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via: ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Please feel free to subscribe me to this new report. Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and reopen it. Thank you for your understanding. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1420643] [NEW] X.Org Server 1.17.1 Released To Fix CVE-2015-0255
Public bug reported: The vulnerability addressed by xorg-server 1.17.1 is CVE-2015-0255, which was made public today. The newest X.Org CVE is described as: Olivier Fourdan from Red Hat has discovered a protocol handling issue in the way the X server code base handles the XkbSetGeometry request. The issue stems from the server trusting the client to send valid string lengths in the request data. A malicious client with string lengths exceeding the request length can cause the server to copy adjacent memory data into the XKB structs. This data is then available to the client via the XkbGetGeometry request. The data length is at least up to 64k, it is possible to obtain more data by chaining strings, each string length is then determined by whatever happens to be in that 16-bit region of memory. A similarly crafted request can likely cause the X server to crash. This issue has been assigned CVE-2015-0255 Hope vivid will soon get that upgrade, as it still has 1.16.2.901 ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bot-stop-nagging upgrade-software-version vivid ** Tags added: bot-stop-nagging upgrade-software-version vivid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1420643 Title: X.Org Server 1.17.1 Released To Fix CVE-2015-0255 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1420643/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Grief, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xorg REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1308105]
Raj, Thanks for clarifying. There might have been several sources of crashes in the same report. Could the people who commented on this report test whether Xfce4-Settings git (hence with Olivier's recent fix) + Alexander's patch work well for them? Olivier, André: would you like to take ownership of this bug and push whichever additional patch is required?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1271975] Re: Compiz related non-specific (Compiz application closed unexpectedly due to error)
honeybuntu, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
