[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1376760] Re: after a screen rotation we get a double mouse pointer
I'm able to confirm this issue on a fresh/vanilla 14.10 install on a Lenovo Thinkpad X230T. Without installing the modified driver linked above, I'm able to workaround the issue by targeting the cursor on the corner of a detached (non-fullscreen) window such that the two- directional drag-to-resize cursor appears. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1281232] Re: control/capslock key swap lost and (almost) no way to recover it
I'm not sure why this was marked Incomplete, and while I appreciate the pointer to the bios update, I don't think it's relevant. This is really about giving back to the user software remapping of keys and modifiers in a user friendly way. xmodmap can do it all but it's far from user friendly. That the Ubuntu desktop *used* to provide this (likely through Gnome) means that this issue *is* a regression in usability. I think it's entirely valid to reassign this issue away from xorg to a more appropriate package (whatever that might be), but not to close it as incomplete because of a bios issue. This isn't hardware specific, and it does affect multiple people. Thanks! ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1281232 Title: control/capslock key swap lost and (almost) no way to recover it To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1281232/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Pressing ctrl alt backspace starts to restart X (windows decorations are wiped, but the frames are still visible; sound cuts out; the mouse cursor is no longer visible) but then the PC hard lock. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1291460] Re: What did I do wrong?
tlradl...@gmail.com, thank you for taking the time to report this and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. The behavior you expected, and 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thank you for your understanding. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1291460 Title: What did I do wrong? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412602] Re: No live DE in Vivid using nouveau w/GeForce 7025/nForce 630a
OK I did some more testing last night and this AM, so here's a quick recap to reduce any confusion (both for others and myself): Vivid: This is fixed in 3.18.0-13 generic. I verified that this AM by testing the Ubuntu GNOME Vivid 20150215 amd64 iso. Utopic: This is fixed in 3.16.0-31 generic which is in utopic-proposed. No additional problems were encountered. Trusty with the Utopic HWE: This is fixed in 3.16.0-31 generic which is in trusty-proposed. The bug I mentioned in comment #19 was observed and I think it may be bug #1291574. I'll follow up on that separate issue appropriately ASAP. Trusty with the OEM 3.13 series kernel: This remains under investigation. I know that both the 14.04 and 14.04.1 images are affected as well as 3.13.0-45-generic. I'll also follow up on this ASAP. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1412602 Title: No live DE in Vivid using nouveau w/GeForce 7025/nForce 630a To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nouveau/+bug/1412602/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1422165] [NEW] xrandr query resets refresh rate to default setting
Public bug reported: Hi, I faced this problem after upgrading from 14.04 to 14.10. Basically, when I switch display refresh rate using xrandr to some non-default value and then just run xrandr without any arguments, the rate resets to default. I can clearly see it as my TV is able to show current refresh rate. Also TV blinks after second xrandr invocation. So steps to reproduce are: 1. xrandr --output HDMI1 --mode 1920x1080 --rate 24 -- TV switches to 24HZ and stays in this mode. 2. xrandr (or xrandr --nograb) -- TV blinks and switches back to default 60HZ. The original problem was observed in Kodi (ex Xbmc) - it failed to enable (and still fails) 24HZ video refresh rate, I analyzed Kodi sources and found out that above mentioned steps are indeed used by Kodi to switch refresh rate. Note that fore some reason the switch to 50HZ refresh rate does NOT exibit the problem, but only to 24/25/30HZ (on my system). Short summary about my system: - 64Bit Ubuntu 14.10 (everything stock, Unity, all up-to-date) - TV Phillips 47PFL7108 - CPU Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4765T - Video card (builtin) Intel® HD Graphics 4600 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.10 Package: xorg 1:7.7+7ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.16.0-30.40-generic 3.16.7-ckt3 Uname: Linux 3.16.0-30-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.14.7-0ubuntu8.1 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true CurrentDesktop: Unity CurrentDmesg: Error: command ['sh', '-c', 'dmesg | comm -13 --nocheck-order /var/log/dmesg -'] failed with exit code 1: comm: /var/log/dmesg: Permission denied Date: Sun Feb 15 21:14:35 2015 DistUpgraded: 2014-11-29 15:58:09,685 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistroCodename: utopic DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0412] (rev 06) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd Device [1458:d000] InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-01-06 (405 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander - Release amd64 (20131016.1) MachineType: GIGABYTE MSH81TN-00 ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.16.0-30-generic root=UUID=606d0fae-4275-4eb2-ad9b-f730da28cbc5 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xorg Symptom: display UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to utopic on 2014-11-29 (78 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 10/15/2013 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: F2 dmi.board.asset.tag: To be filled by O.E.M. dmi.board.name: MSH81TN-00 dmi.board.vendor: GIGABYTE dmi.board.version: 1.x dmi.chassis.asset.tag: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.chassis.vendor: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.chassis.version: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvrF2:bd10/15/2013:svnGIGABYTE:pnMSH81TN-00:pvr1.x:rvnGIGABYTE:rnMSH81TN-00:rvr1.x:cvnToBeFilledByO.E.M.:ct3:cvrToBeFilledByO.E.M.: dmi.product.name: MSH81TN-00 dmi.product.version: 1.x dmi.sys.vendor: GIGABYTE version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.12+14.10.20140918-0ubuntu1 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.56-1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 10.3.2-0ubuntu0.1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 10.3.2-0ubuntu0.1 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.16.0-1ubuntu1.2 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.9.0-1ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.4.0-2ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.914-1~exp1ubuntu4.2 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.11-1ubuntu2 xserver.bootTime: Sun Feb 15 20:21:04 2015 xserver.configfile: default xserver.devices: inputPower Button KEYBOARD, id 6 inputVideo BusKEYBOARD, id 7 inputPower Button KEYBOARD, id 8 inputAndrey’s TrackpadTOUCHPAD, id 9 inputApple Wireless Keyboard KEYBOARD, id 10 xserver.errors: xserver.logfile: /var/log/Xorg.0.log xserver.outputs: product id 0 vendor PHL xserver.version: 2:1.16.0-1ubuntu1.2 ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug compiz-0.9 ubuntu utopic xrandr -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1422165 Title: xrandr query resets refresh rate to default setting To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1422165/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1285016] Re: Lot of errors with xorg apport and co., after a partial upgrade
Ezeoma Kingsley, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal: cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a new report, you would be affected by https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line: sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf and comment out the line: 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], by changing it to: # 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via: ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Please feel free to subscribe me to this new report. Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and reopen it. Thank you for your understanding. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1295740] Re: just error message
paul a golder, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Tazx, as per http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product- page.aspx?pid=4639#bios an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (307). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status Confirmed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1296315] Re: Displaylink and ASUS MB168B+ not working
Typhoe, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-3.XY-rcZ Where XY and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-3.XY-rcZ Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed.
