As well, have you installed virtualbox-guest-x11 in the guest for
improved integration?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1424491] Re: apt-get fails to install fglrx or fglrx-updates in 14.04.2 and 12.04.5

2015-03-03 Thread Forage
By running sudo apt-get install libcheese* you are basically reverting the
mesa updates of 14.0.4.2. It'll remove all the new packages and give you the
graphic stack compared to before installing the LTS enabled stack. Hence you
can install fglrx again.
You'll still have the new Utopic kernel though. I'm not sure if that's a good
or bad thing. I can imagine some incompatibility issues without the new mesa
stack, but if it works for you for the time being...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1424491] Re: apt-get fails to install fglrx or fglrx-updates in 14.04.2 and 12.04.5

2015-03-03 Thread Balázs Wittmann
The solution mentioned in #24 is working for me. I have a Toshiba
Satellite L750D notebook and an AMD A6-3400M APU in it. Unfortunately
after a fresh Ubuntu 14.04.2 install the default X.Org driver doesn't
work for me since I always get balck screen after Ubuntu having booted.
So after the installation I wanted to change to the AMD fglrx driver to
solve the X.Org driver related balck screen issue, but I also run into
the problem this bug about. The steps worked for me were the followings:

1. A fresh Ubuntu 14.04.2 install.
2. Run the sudo apt-get install libcheese* command in the terminal.
3. After sudo apt-get install libcheese* finished it's work run sudo apt-get
autoremove to remove unneeded packages.
4. Rebot the system (now I didn't get balck screen at the normal boot)
5. On the Ubuntu Software Center's Edit Software Sources ... Additional
Drivers tab select one fo the fglrx related option and hit Apply Changes.
6. After the fglrx driver installation has finished restart the system again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1366876] Re: Xorg freeze

2015-03-03 Thread James Ferguson
Sadly, since this happens typically once every 1-3 days, and on a work
machine, with 14.04 required, so I'm not really able to try out a fresh
install. It might be worth my while trying out the LTS stack, to get a
more recent kernel. Right now I'm having a problem installing the
utopic LTS (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack), but if I
can get past that I'll see if it improves things.

It did happen to me yesterday with no syslog message apart from [drm]
stuck on render ring.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1427668] Re: IT SLOWED MY PC

2015-03-03 Thread Steve Beattie
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

They STILL haven't fixed something as fundamental as this?! It must
affect all AMD graphics users with post Radeon 4000 series. How on earth
do Canonical expect to succeed in any market when something as basic as
installing a bloody graphics driver isn't possible or promptly fixed?
And as always from Canonical, NO communication. So amateurish!

Yes, it is still an issue. I get screen tearing when scrolling, panning

I'm afraid I'm not able to test a development release.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1427924] Re: autopkgtest failures if nvidia dkms module fails to build

2015-03-03 Thread Steve Langasek
Martin, the reason I filed this bug against ubuntu-drivers-common is
that the behavior of this package's tests is at odds with proposed-
migration. There is a new version of perl waiting to reach vivid, which
causes ubuntu-drivers-common's tests to be run and report a failure
because of a regression in a package that is *not* a dependency of
ubuntu-drivers-common. perl, or other dependencies of ubuntu-drivers-
common, shouldn't find themselves blocked because of a regression in an
nvidia driver package; and testing that the nvidia dkms drivers can be
built should happen /when the kernel package is updated/, which didn't
happen here. The tests are currently happening in the wrong place to be
useful for proposed-migration, and that should be fixed.

** Changed in: ubuntu-drivers-common (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1427924] Re: autopkgtest failures if nvidia dkms module fails to build

2015-03-03 Thread Martin Pitt
Right. For the record, the plan is to enable reverse test dependencies,
so that u-d-common can test-depend on the kernel and will be triggered
on new kernel uploads (https://bugs.debian.org/779559)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314367] Re: 10de:0cbc Flickering with Ubuntu 14.04

2015-03-03 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Tom Winterhalder, as the latest version of the driver in the repository
is also the latest one available from nvidia.com, the bug you are
reporting is an upstream one. Could you please report this to them via
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia#Reporting_an_upstream_bug
?

As well, could you please comment to if using nouveau offers a
WORAKROUND?

** Summary changed:

- Flickering with Ubuntu 14.04 and nvidia card reappeared
+ 10de:0cbc Flickering with Ubuntu 14.04

** Description changed:

- As requested in Bug #1310633 I'm opening a new bug.
-
With a previous version of Ubuntu I already had this flickering. With
additional options for the kernel module I was able to fix the
  flickering.

  options nvidia NVreg_RegistryDwords=PerfLevelSrc=0x NVreg_Mobile=3
  NVreg_ModifyDeviceFiles=0

With version 14.04 and the nvidia-331 (331.38-0ubuntu7) driver the
flickering reappeared although the line is still present in
  options.conf.

Using modprobe --resolve-alias nvidia I found the correct driver module
name which in my case is nvidia_331. Changing the module name in
  options.conf to nvidia_331 X doesn't start anymore. Removing the
NVreg_ModifyDeviceFiles option X is starting again, but does not solve
  the issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1427924] [NEW] autopkgtest failures if nvidia dkms module fails to build

FAIL

https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/job/vivid-adt-ubuntu-drivers-
common/57/ARCH=amd64,label=adt/console

This has been failing consistently since Feb 27.

This is a bad test, because a failure of the nvidia dkms module to be
buildable should be captured as a failure on the nvidia package and not
on the ubuntu-drivers package which is testing all of drivers. For
ubuntu-drivers-common, an unbuildable dkms module should be treated as a
skipped test rather than a failed test.

Also opening a task against the nvidia 304 package, which probably needs
a fix for newer kernels or to be dropped from the archive if it's
incompatible with linux 3.19.

On Ubuntu 14.04, xmodmap is not called after resuming from suspend,
making this still broken compared to the old behavior.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1409190] Re: nvidia-331-updates 331.113-0ubuntu0.0.4: nvidia-331-updates kernel module failed to build [error: ‘struct file’ has no member named ‘f_dentry’]

2015-03-03 Thread kary
ROOT CAUSE: In kernel headers, a feature that nvidia code depends on,
has been removed in kernel 3.19:

$ diff linux-headers-3.18.0-13/include/linux/fs.h
linux-headers-3.19.0-7/include/linux/fs.h | grep f_dentry
 #define f_dentry  f_path.dentry

WORKAROUND: Make nvidia code live without that feature:

$ sudo sed -i~ s/f_dentry/f_path.dentry/ /usr/src/nvidia-304-304.125/nv.c
$ apt list --installed 'linux*' | cut -d / -f 1 | grep 3.19 | xargs sudo
apt install --reinstall

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1297144] Re: Invisible cursor after resume from suspend

2015-03-03 Thread Eduardo Rudas
I have the same problem on a Samsung NP305U1A-A05CO, Xubuntu 14.04 with latest
updates.
I want to report that I have installed the propietary ATI Radeon drivers and
the problem has gone (now sometimes it dosn't resume, but that's another
history).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314367] Re: Flickering with Ubuntu 14.04 and nvidia card reappeared

2015-03-03 Thread Tom Winterhalder
I'm using the nvidia driver which is included in the 15.04 version:
340.76-0ubuntu1

ii nvidia-340 340.76-0ubuntu1
amd64NVIDIA binary driver - version 340.76
ii nvidia-340-uvm 340.76-0ubuntu1
amd64NVIDIA Unified Memory kernel module
ii nvidia-opencl-icd-340340.76-0ubuntu1
amd64NVIDIA OpenCL ICD
ii nvidia-prime 0.7
amd64Tools to enable NVIDIA's Prime
ii nvidia-settings 346.35-0ubuntu1
amd64Tool for configuring the NVIDIA graphics driver

I haven't tried any other drivers so far. What I did is try the
workaround with options.conf described in the first post. This
permanently solved the issue in older versions of Ubuntu. Now the screen
goes black and does not boot if the options are enabled.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1377872] Re: Double-buffered compositing performance is very poor (30 FPS) on intel

2015-03-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Can't reproduce this any more.

Mir now has double buffered clients as well as double buffered
compositing so the bug should be more visible, not less. Although vivid
also just got updated to Mesa 10.5 which is where I would expect a fix
to come from. Seems to be fixed, probably by recent Mesa/kernel updates.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1417952] Re: [HP Pavilion 23 AIO] Stuck on the ubuntu loading splashscreen with fglrx installed

2015-03-03 Thread Alberto Milone
The errors in the logs should be marked as warnings, as the fglrx keeps
looking for the same library in different places. The log in comment #6
shows that the library was found in the end:

[19.166] (II) AIGLX: Loaded and initialized OpenGL driver(II) GLX:
Initialized DRI GL provider for screen 0

Something seems to be wrong in the kernel module though:

[ 17.369165] 6[fglrx] ATIF platform detected with notification ID: 0x81
[ 17.535110] 3[fglrx:cf_object_handle_cmd] *ERROR* Can not generate cf
candidates

We should ask AMD what the binary is doing.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1410801] Re: [AMD Richland + Topaz XT ] gpu-manager generated xorg.conf is not compatiable with switchable graphics

If calling amdconfig --initial instead of creating a xorg.conf from
scratch is desirable, I can make that change in gpu-manager. I'll need
testers though, as I don't own a unit with AMD+AMD.
