[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1424491] Re: apt-get fails to install fglrx or fglrx-updates in 14.04.2 and 12.04.5
By running sudo apt-get install libcheese* you are basically reverting the mesa updates of 14.0.4.2. It'll remove all the new packages and give you the graphic stack compared to before installing the LTS enabled stack. Hence you can install fglrx again. You'll still have the new Utopic kernel though. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1424491] Re: apt-get fails to install fglrx or fglrx-updates in 14.04.2 and 12.04.5
The solution mentioned in #24 is working for me. I have a Toshiba Satellite L750D notebook and an AMD A6-3400M APU in it. Unfortunately after a fresh Ubuntu 14.04.2 install the default X.Org driver doesn't work for me since I always get balck screen after Ubuntu having booted. So after the installation I wanted to change to the AMD fglrx driver to solve the X.Org driver related balck screen issue, but I also run into the problem this bug about. The steps worked for me were the followings: 1. A fresh Ubuntu 14.04.2 install. 2. Run the sudo apt-get install libcheese* command in the terminal. 3. After sudo apt-get install libcheese* finished it's work run sudo apt-get autoremove to remove unneeded packages. 4. Rebot the system (now I didn't get balck screen at the normal boot) 5. On the Ubuntu Software Center's Edit Software Sources ... Additional Drivers tab select one fo the fglrx related option and hit Apply Changes. 6. After the fglrx driver installation has finished restart the system again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1424491 Title: apt-get fails to install fglrx or fglrx-updates in 14.04.2 and 12.04.5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1424491/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Sadly, since this happens typically once every 1-3 days, and on a work machine, with 14.04 required, so I'm not really able to try out a fresh install. Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a regular (non-security) bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1427924] Re: autopkgtest failures if nvidia dkms module fails to build
Martin, the reason I filed this bug against ubuntu-drivers-common is that the behavior of this package's tests is at odds with proposed- migration. There is a new version of perl waiting to reach vivid, which causes ubuntu-drivers-common's tests to be run and report a failure because of a regression in a package that is *not* a dependency of ubuntu-drivers-common. perl, or other dependencies of ubuntu-drivers- common, shouldn't find themselves blocked because of a regression in an nvidia driver package; and testing that the nvidia dkms drivers can be built should happen /when the kernel package is updated/, which didn't happen here. The tests are currently happening in the wrong place to be useful for proposed-migration, and that should be fixed. ** Changed in: ubuntu-drivers-common (Ubuntu) Status: Won't Fix = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-304-updates in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1427924 Title: autopkgtest failures if nvidia dkms module fails to build To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-304/+bug/1427924/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314367] Re: 10de:0cbc Flickering with Ubuntu 14.04
Tom Winterhalder, as the latest version of the driver in the repository is also the latest one available from nvidia.com, the bug you are reporting is an upstream one. Could you please report this to them via https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia#Reporting_an_upstream_bug ? As well, could you please comment to if using nouveau offers a WORAKROUND? ** Summary changed: - Flickering with Ubuntu 14.04 and nvidia card reappeared + 10de:0cbc Flickering with Ubuntu 14.04 ** Description changed: - As requested in Bug #1310633 I'm opening a new bug. - With a previous version of Ubuntu I already had this flickering. With additional options for the kernel module I was able to fix the flickering. options nvidia NVreg_RegistryDwords=PerfLevelSrc=0x NVreg_Mobile=3 NVreg_ModifyDeviceFiles=0 With version 14.04 and the nvidia-331 (331.38-0ubuntu7) driver the flickering reappeared although the line is still present in options.conf. Using modprobe --resolve-alias nvidia I found the correct driver module name which in my case is nvidia_331. Changing the module name in options.conf to nvidia_331 X doesn't start anymore. Removing the NVreg_ModifyDeviceFiles option X is starting again, but does not solve the issue. The log in comment #6 shows that the library was found in the end: [19.166] (II) AIGLX: Loaded and initialized OpenGL driver(II) GLX: Initialized DRI GL provider for screen 0 Something seems to be wrong in the kernel module though: [ 17.369165] 6[fglrx] ATIF platform detected with notification ID: 0x81 [ 17.535110] 3[fglrx:cf_object_handle_cmd] *ERROR* Can not generate cf candidates We should ask AMD what the binary is doing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1417952 Title: [HP Pavilion 23 AIO] Stuck on the ubuntu loading splashscreen with fglrx installed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hwe-next/+bug/1417952/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1410801] Re: [AMD Richland + Topaz XT ] gpu-manager generated xorg.conf is not compatiable with switchable graphics
If calling amdconfig --initial instead of creating a xorg.conf from scratch is desirable, I can make that change in gpu-manager. I'll need testers though, as I don't own a unit with AMD+AMD. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1410801 Title: [AMD Richland + Topaz XT ] gpu-manager generated xorg.conf is not compatiable with switchable graphics To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hwe-next/+bug/1410801/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
