[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1389215] Re: Brightness controls are not working in Unity / Xorg because of Nvidia proprietary driver.
Ah, I understand. No I cannot test it with the latest version of Ubuntu. I do not have a spare computer to do so. However, it is still relevant to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Thar, which is a LTS and for which I hope this bug will be fixed. Since I use Ubuntu as my main OS, I need stability and thus, I only use LTS versions. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1389215 Title: Brightness controls are not working in Unity / Xorg because of Nvidia proprietary driver. I do not know if this is related to the problem but the www-posted solutions don't help in my case: 1: try install nivdia proprietary drivers - the NVIDIA installer did not find a card 2: remove gfxmode $linux_gfxmode from grub Other attempts: I have set my BIOS to video: UEFI first (as recommended by the support team from GIGABYTE) but that did not change anything, either - still booting with intel HD graphics only I have turned off ontel onboard graphics which makes the system to fail booting at all (BIOS reset required to get back) Other observations: The system is not even recognizing the 1920x1080 resolution for intel HD graphics, I have to add it via xrandr. Strangely, when doing so, i get the 1920x1080, but a monitor-error message pops up (this comes from the monitor hardware directly, not from ubuntu) telling me that I am not using a DUAL link DVI cable (which is not true, I do use a DVI-D Dual Link which was perfectly capable of transmitting all high resolutions) - this looks like an intel HD driver issue - but I can clear this error message by pressing a monitor key... [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1364630] Re: init: Error while reading from descriptor: Broken pipe
I'm also having this. It started on 14.04 but has got significantly worse on the upgrade to 14.10 - it is intermittent. It would happen only occasionally on 14.04 but now happens almost all the time on 14.10. I have nVidia graphics but am using nouveau. What's particularly bad about this in my case (Sony VAIO laptop) is that when it happens my ethernet port completely stops working, it's not even detected (doesn't show up in lspci), making my laptop almost useless. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1364630 Title: init: Error while reading from descriptor: Broken pipe To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/upstart/+bug/1364630/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 946311]
Looking at this bug for the umpteent time, I would suggest closing this one, RESOLVED WESUCK, and starting with a clean slate by filing a new bug against v4.0-rc1 or drm-intel-nightly. There's too much baggage here for anyone to look at this with fresh eyes, or if they were fresh while starting they won't be fresh by comment #136. The new bug can reference this one for historical perspective, but I think it would be best to narrow it down to describing the symptoms running the new kernels only. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314924] Re: Adressbox Entries unreadable: Grey/Black Mask overlaying text
I apologize, I didn't mean to boss anyone around. I'm not in charge, nor am I a maintainer or triager, I am just another user. Please don't take this as representative of the ubuntu community. I talked briefly with a maintainer of xserver-xorg-video-intel, and they suggested the procedure for incorporating the necessary fixes for this issue in the non HWE release. Based on the response to Freedesktop#79165, it didn't seem to be obvious which patch this is, however. Cf. http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2015/02/26/%23ubuntu-x.html : | [20:51] mlankhorst https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates is the procedure | [20:51] mlankhorst bit of paperwork + making a fixed package Unfortunately I will not be able to assist with this issue any further. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1314924 Title: Adressbox Entries unreadable: Grey/Black Mask overlaying text To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1314924/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1416186] Re: [drm:radeon_acpi_init] *ERROR* Cannot find a backlight controller
Tested with the daily-live from March 6, 2015 as well as the image+updates all booting from a live USB as suggested in comment 4. The backlight error still appears in dmesg -l err. The backlight controls work upon boot and I haven't noticed any losses of control. I haven't tracked down the reproducable pattern either. dmesg -l err [0.039901] Ignoring BGRT: invalid status 0 (expected 1) [5.666220] ACPI PCC probe failed.
