The laptop trackpad has ceased its functioning after the steps outlined below.
I have attempted reloading the psmouse module via

to no avail. Ubuntu still responds to the left/0 button, however.

I installed gstreamer 1.0, and (of course, to my chagrin) that did not
solve the dependancy issue. I attempted to install each of the
dependancies with apt-get individually (the ones in this if block, where
i thought the problem was), and found that gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg package
is not available in the standard repositories. I did install the
gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg package from a third party. However, the script
still did not recognize that all of the dependancies were installed!
A clever person on the openFrameworks community forum announced that if
you (fix broken and install the packages freeglut3 freeglut3-dev
freeglut3-dbg) via synaptic install_dependancies.sh runs without errors.
By some freak twist of package manangement abstraction the script only
worked properly after that operation. I did just go ahead and install
synaptic to replicate the experiment accurately: I do not know if I
could have just installed those packages through apt-get without broken
dependancies. If so, openFrameworks should know that freeglut3 et al
should be in their linux/ubuntu/install_dependancies.sh script.

Same problem here. Laptop freezes randomly when using the Nvidia card as primary. Problem can be rectified by Ctrl+Alt+F1 and Ctrl+Alt+F7 combo. But it's so annoying since this process takes about a minute for the display o come back. I have switched to the Inbuilt Intel graphics due to this issue. My problem with my i810 seems to be the same and the crude fix of reinstalling the old version through sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg- video-intel=2:2.99.910-0ubuntu1 and pinning it with sudo apt-mark hold xserver-xorg-video-intel=2:2.99.910-0ubuntu1 is working. Let me tell you some background and guesswork why we have this problem. Because I haven't taken notes and the i810 computer is not at hands I might sound a bit fuzzy... X11 itself is not enough for modern video output. You also need DRI, GLX, MESA and others which are usually seperate from X11 and X11 low level drivers but are still pretty low level themselves. Starting with Ubuntu 14.04 the official DRI/GLX-drivers no longer support i810 (maybe this problem is older but 12.04 definitly does not have the problem, not sure if GLX or DRI, either libgl1-mesa-dri or libgl1-mesa-glx) . This in return means you get no MESA/OpenGL and no accelerated video. This is an Upstream-Decision outside Ubuntu and I was unable to find any explanaition for this though it was hinted that a lack for DRI/GLX means that i810 support itself might not live for much longer in Xorg. So I guess now is the time where i810 not only loses OpenGL and accelerated video upstream but is completely dropped from Xorg. Things look hopeless, already when i810-GLX/DRI got dropped upstream sounded totally uninterested in fixing it. Basically they suggested to compile your drivers manually based on older sources. And they sounded absolutely final on not fixing GLX/DRI. This is a real pitty because I have several of these old, quiet, small computers with i810 around and they worked perfectly good with 10.04. Unfortunately the motherboard was trashed by the incorrect BIOS update. After 2 weeks and quite a bit of money I now have a new system - but using a different motherboard and a different graphics card (Nvidia this time). The guy who fixed the system thought the previous AMD card was broken, although I had seen no sign of that myself. Since my system has changed so much I can no longer provide you with debug info on this issue. So feel free to close it unless you think someone else will have a similar setup and be able to provide you with the relevant info.
