[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1414930] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad 2015 models] Buttons of Synaptics trackpad doesn't work

2015-04-08 Thread Hannes Erven
VirtualBox seems to be a different story. Try adding nosmap to the
kernel command line (see http://askubuntu.com/questions/581301
/virtualbox-stuck-on-starting-virtual-machine ), that worked for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1441570] [NEW] System becomes unresponsive during normal usage

2015-04-08 Thread Jesse Mazis
Public bug reported:

The system becomes unresponsive (including stuttering audio, slow mouse
cursor, freezing) after an hour or so of usage (sometimes more and
sometimes less). Usage at the time was a web browser idling (observed
with both Chromium and Firefox) and a music player (Clementine) in the
background. There were no CPU intensive applications running at the
time.

I was able to capture cpu usage during an episode with the following command
(nice set to -20).:
'while true; do ps -eo pcpu,pid,user,args | sort -k 1 -nr | head -30
logfile; echo -e \n`date` logfile; sync; sleep 1; done'
Attached is an excerpt from the generated log file.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745608]

2015-04-08 Thread petern
I ran into this bug on a fresh install of Debian 8 (Jessie) RC2 on an
EeePC 701 4G with Intel i915GM graphics. Linux kernel 3.16, X.Org
1.16.4, X.Org intel module 2.21.15.

Using SNA instead of UXA, as suggested above, seems to still solve it:

# cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Section Device
Identifier Intel Graphics
Driver intel
Option AccelMethod sna
EndSection

I see that Debian is preparing to move to SNA [1]:

 xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.99.911+git20140529-1~exp2) experimental;
 urgency=medium
 ..
 * Stop overriding default upstream acceleration method (i.e. default to SNA
instead of UXA).

 -- Vincent Cheng vch...@debian.org Mon, 02 Jun 2014 23:47:23 -0700

However, that change is still in Debian's experimental area, not in
the upcoming stable (Jessie) release.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1430888] Re: DRI_PRIME with radeon/intel windows do not draw

2015-04-08 Thread Wolfgang Wallner
In my case, starting steam causes the text 'reporting 9 5 33 271' to be added
to /var/log/Xorg.0.log three times.
It's always printed twice in a row and again a few seconds later.
For example these are two starts of steam:

[ 17002.853] reporting 9 5 33 271
[ 17002.878] reporting 9 5 33 271
[ 17006.628] reporting 9 5 33 271
[ 17021.267] reporting 9 5 33 271
[ 17021.297] reporting 9 5 33 271
[ 17025.236] reporting 9 5 33 271

But this does happen with and without DRI_PRIME=1, so I don't know if it
is related to this bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1430888] Re: DRI_PRIME with radeon/intel windows do not draw

2015-04-08 Thread Wolfgang Wallner
This bug is already present in 14.10.

My system is a HP Pavilion laptop with a muxless Intel/AMD combination
(Intel Sandybridge HD graphics and AMD Radeon HD6770).

A Workaround that works most of the time is to press Win+D again and again to
switch between desktop and game application.
After a few iterations the problem is usually gone: once a game (or steam)
starts drawing, everything works fine.

Hmm... when I removed 2 additional DDR RAM modules (out of 4), being

Interresting on this is that I let memtest+ running overnight with all 4

Weird. Need some more tests.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver

2015-04-08 Thread Justin Standring
I'd like to confirm that Jace's solution (#127) worked for me using a
Lenovo T440s on an Ultra Dock with two displays connected on VGA and
HDMI. I upgraded to 14.10, updated to the 3.17.4 kernel, and rebooted.
Now both external monitors are recognised.

Thanks!

Could you please check your /var/log/Xorg.0.log to see if it contains the

For me it repeats very often if I've started an 3D program with DRI_PRIME where

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1438303] Re: Radeon driver freezes GPU (reproducible)

2015-04-08 Thread tuxator
one of the recent updates changed the behaviour. I can now always see
the ingame screen and sometimes even move around for a few seconds. Also
some new stuff in dmesg.

After some research I was also able to enable sysrq again, so I did a
sysrq L. I also found a Troubleshooting site on the ubuntu wiki that
pointed to the usage of radeontool and the /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0
directory so I copied some files ( that seemed relevant judging by their
name) from there, too.

And I'd appreachiate it if someone with a tiny bit more knowledge could
give me a hand here. Either helping me in obtaining more informations or
even fixing the problem. I mean, this is something like a dream-bug for
a software developer with knowledge of the subsystems involved. It's
100% reproducible. What more do you need?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1430888] Re: DRI_PRIME with radeon/intel windows do not draw

2015-04-08 Thread Wolfgang Wallner
I tried to reproduce the problem with glxgears.
It can happen, but it is harder to reproduce than with steam.
For steam it happens every time, for glxgears it only happened twice out of ~15
tries.

But when it happens in glxgears, no reporting 9 5 33 271 lines are
added to Xorg.0.log, so I think these are two different issues.

The compositing-enable trick also works for glx_gears.

As far as I can tell the problem only happens with certain programs.
I think it depends on whether or not OpenGL is used for drawing.
For me it happens for

*) Steam
*) Games (both Steam and others like e.g. supertuxkart)
*) glxgears

It does not happen for typical office programs that use GUI toolkits
like Qt or GTK, e.g. okular, gedit, etc.

According to [1] Steam uses a custom toolkit called VGUI, which is also uses by
their Source engine.
Thus I would guess that it is also drawn using OpenGL.

Additional note regarding compositing:

*) The problem happens regardless if compositing is enabled or disabled.
*) Enabling compositing fixes the problem (as far as I can tell always).

If I start with compositing on, I need to toggle it for the problem to be gone.
If I start with compositing off, I just need to enable it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1400730] Re: libxext fills up .xsession-errors log files

2015-04-08 Thread Jonathan Riddell
I installed kubuntu plasma 5
I installed kdm and set it as default login manager (so it would output to
.xsession-errors)
I installed libxext6 from utopic-proposed
I rebooted and logged in
.xsession-errors was pleasinly free of spamming error messages

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1414930] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad 2015 models] Buttons of Synaptics trackpad doesn't work

2015-04-08 Thread Jay
mainline kernel 4.0.0-04rc7-generic fixed trackpoint issues for me.
(on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS)

Separate issue but I also use an external Lenovo ThinkPad Compact USB
Keyboard with TrackPoint and middle scrolling did not work out-of-the-
box . set-prop Evdev Wheel Emulation Button to 4 fixed this. The
integrated keyboard was differently set to 2.

I did not directly set this but changed the MatchProduct in
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/11-evdev-trackpoint.conf to be more specific
IBM TrackPoint|DualPoint Stick and the non-matched Compact Trackpoint
Keyboard fallback defaulted to 4 for EmulateWheelButton.

seems to recover afterwards (the background gets messed up as you can
see from the video, but at least the desktop remains usable):
