[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1450952] [NEW] i915 backlight controls don't cover full range
Public bug reported: Hi. I'm using a Dell XPS 13 QHD+ (2015 version, model 9343), running Ubuntu Gnome 15.04. When I use the brightness control buttons to lower the backlight brightness, the lower end of the range (as reported by cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness) is as follows: 0 (display off), 47, 94 ... However, I find 47 to still be too bright at night sometimes. I discovered that if I do echo 1 /sys/class/blacklight/intel_blacklight/brightness, I end up with a nice level of brightness which feels like it's about two steps down from 47 in terms of brightness. But there's no way to reach this brightness level using the brightness controls on the keyboard. Is it possible to add a couple of lower levels to the standard brightness range, changing [0, 47, 94, ...] to e.g. [0, 1, 24, 47, 94, ...]? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1423276] Re: checking system for stability
Larry Griffin, as per http://support.hp.com/us- en/drivers/selfservice/HP-2000-Notebook-PC-series/5145724/model/5169513 an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (F.48). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status Confirmed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1450911] Re: Xorg freeze
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find. ** Information type changed from Private Security to Public -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1450911 Title: Xorg freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1450911/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1443434] Re: VLC's image is scrambled when using XVideo
Since I've upgrade the intel HD stuff with Oibaf PPA (https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/ubuntu/graphics-drivers), everything is OK for me now. I know it's not a clean solution, but I needed it urgently. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1443434 Title: VLC's image is scrambled when using XVideo To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1443434/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
