All, As per my above comment, running those commands did fix the issue. Note: as I mentioned, you need to install the depends also.. example: ~# sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg unity-control-center xserver-xorg- video-intel xserver-xorg-core xorg-video-abi-15 libcheese-gtk23 libcheese7 libclutter-1.0-0 libclutter-gtk-1.0-0 libcogl15 libclutter- gst-2.0-0 gstreamer1.0-clutter (I think that's everything but if it pops up with the message Garry mentioned above, just install that package as well.) Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1455598] [NEW] connecting 2x 4k displays in ubuntu 15.04 with daisy chain displayport (MST)
Public bug reported: Hi, I own a Dell XPS12 (9Q33) and recently i have had 2 external monitors hooked to that through the (mini) display ports. The Screens are from the type Dell P2815Q. The screens have the ability to use Daisy chain (MST=>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort#Multiple_displays_on_single_DisplayPort_connector), but it fails if i connect my laptop with 2x 4k external monitors. If i try it, it shows me some quick lines of text and returnes me to the login screen. If i turn _off_ the secondairy screen, it does login with 1 external monitor at 4k. If i setup the resolution to 2x 2,5k on the external monitors, it does work. Both at the office (where there are as well 2 Dell monitors with 2,5k resolution (2500xsomething) but from a different type). I think the problem is with the 4k resolutions. The setup does work on Windows 8.1 Pro, so i can use my main screen at 1920x1080 as 2x 4k external screens (although its on 30Hz, but thats due to the display port 1.2 specification i think). I haven't tried to connect the laptop with the main screen disabled/closed, so im gonna try that soon. But even if that works, i still think it's a bug as it seems to work on Windows. I've researched the fora, askbuntu, launchpad but i can't find a similar bug so i think i found one. I did find one thread that says it should work and is consistent with the MST working; - http://askubuntu.com/questions/369946/displayport-1-2-mst-daisy-chain-dual-monitor-setup-intel-graphics/401614#401614 But i can't find anything similar with the 2x 4k resolution. Although i've tried, im a newbee at linux so excuse me if don't do stuff like it's supposed to. The ubuntu irc channel told me to use ubuntu-bug, so thats what i'm doing here. If i need to do things differenty, let me know. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1432194] Re: Graphics unstable on Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.10 using Intel HD Graphics 5500
I think I'm affected by this bug as well. The relevant bits in dmesg: [55632.090484] i915 :00:02.0: BAR 6: [??? 0x flags 0x2] has bogus alignment [55632.090918] pci_bus :01: Allocating resources [55632.091041] pci_bus :02: Allocating resources [55632.091090] i915 :00:02.0: BAR 6: [??? 0x flags 0x2] has bogus alignment [55632.093607] pci_bus :01: Allocating resources [55632.093746] pci_bus :02: Allocating resources [55632.093798] i915 :00:02.0: BAR 6: [??? 0x flags 0x2] has bogus alignment [55632.093896] i915 :00:02.0: BAR 6: [??? 0x flags 0x2] has bogus alignment [55632.094026] i915 :00:02.0: BAR 6: [??? 0x flags 0x2] has bogus alignment [55632.094136] i915 :00:02.0: BAR 6: [??? 0x flags 0x2] has bogus alignment [55632.094535] pci_bus :01: Allocating resources [55632.094660] pci_bus :02: Allocating resources [55632.094708] i915 :00:02.0: BAR 6: [??? 0x flags 0x2] has bogus alignment This occurs whenever I wake my laptop from suspend. The fonts are grossly distorted and unreadable. I've attached one example screenshot (note: it's a HiDPI setup). I tried using a newer video driver from ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers (which fixed a suspend/resume issue), to no avail. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1079801] Re: applications like Google Earth or Second Life do not work
The Second Life problem should be fixed by this commit in mesa 10.5.4. author Kenneth Graunke committer Emil Velikov commit 597d85c6b761028e00d9a75405afcba7612f9d58 tree 7ef635bfedd4a7c4e47f2d6c4b793da934e0d114 parent ef0e335c1422b8a394073d89a781ed5847da0eb1 drirc: Add "Second Life" quirk (allow_glsl_extension_directive_midshader). Appears to fix shader compilation. Tested by starting the client, dragging the "quality and speed" slider back and forth, and watching the console output - instead of piles of "shader failed to compile", the CPU seems to be busy compiling shaders.
