[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1432194] Re: Graphics unstable on Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.10 using Intel HD Graphics 5500

2015-05-28 Thread Ross Grady
@robbel -- I haven't had a chance to sit down with one of the affected
machines to do a deep dive. In #105 @tjaalton references an update that
would have had the effect of reverting the patch but to be honest, when
he talks about 4.3.1 vs 4.4. vs 4.5, I'm not 100% clear on what package
he's talking about.

All I know right now is that I had machines working for 2 weeks
suddenly they're back to corrupted text when they come out of suspend.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1432194] Re: Graphics unstable on Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.10 using Intel HD Graphics 5500

2015-05-28 Thread Ross Grady
OK, having looked at one of the affected machines, I'm stumped. They're
still running the xserver-xorg-video-intel-lts-
utopic_2.99.914-1~exp1ubuntu4.3.1~trusty1_amd64.deb that I
downloaded from Timo's page a couple of weeks ago. This is 14.04.2 on a
Thinkpad X1 Carbon running 3.16.0-38.

The symptoms have returned -- widespread text corruption when resuming
from suspend.

What data, if any, should I collect to assist with this?

found it in additional drivers

happens when browsing the internet, nothing crazy going on that would be
pushing the drivers performance

I can't tell you the last time it worked, because I kept getting
segfaults on older card, thought it was the card. bought new card and
did fresh install, same issue(yes if X were working I could have saved a
video card purchase)

no way to take a screenshot, and even if I did, it would just be a black
screen, because thats what happens.
segfault black screen no terminals at all
no ctrl+alt+F2 terminals access, etc
I have to magic sysreq the system down with REISUB and that causes data loss

please fix this

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1455598] Re: connecting 2x 4k displays in ubuntu 15.04 with daisy chain displayport (MST)

2015-05-28 Thread D
Yes it does. I attached the file to this post.

also, i found out that working with the 2x 4k screens (and the laptop-
builtin-screen disabled), it goes into slumber or powerdown mode. If it
does, i can't succesfully get it out and have to restart the machine.
I'm gonna test some more on that, but it might be related to switching
back to 3 screens afer coming out of slumber.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1455598] Re: connecting 2x 4k displays in ubuntu 15.04 with daisy chain displayport (MST)

2015-05-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
D, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However, your
crash report is manually attached. Please follow these instructions to have
apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the
automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal:
cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade
sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your
/var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash
report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a
new report, you would be affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to
WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via:
ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently.

Please feel free to subscribe me to this new report.

Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and
reopen it.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1432194] Re: Graphics unstable on Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.10 using Intel HD Graphics 5500

2015-05-28 Thread Ross Grady
@tjaalton Your patch from #100 was working great for us, but like some
other folks here, it looks like an update has superceded it and the
problem is back. In #105 you mentioned that you would upload a newer
version -- has that happened? Or perhaps a better question, how close
are we to having the problem resolved within the actual standard distro
repos?

Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1455002] Re: Thinkpad x200t backlight settings

2015-05-28 Thread EricDHH
The bios can only be lifted up to 3.17, if the machine got an original
Lenovo battery for 150 bucks. So i can only point that this bug did not
occur under 14.04 LTS. The system was reverted to Ubuntu Mate 15.04 now
and show the same behaviour, screen brightness turns to highest or
lowest at boot. Last state was not saved like in earlier ubuntu
versions.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1432194] Re: Graphics unstable on Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.10 using Intel HD Graphics 5500

2015-05-28 Thread phitastic
I am on 14.04 and the patch in #100 never seems to have been superseded
in my usual apt-get update/dist-upgrade sessions. @iq-ross: is that
something that only applies to dists 14.04? Thanks!
