Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1459799] Re: segfaulting often

2015-06-08 Thread grinch
I tried again and this time it opened in a normal browser, chrome. I
authorized my computer to use my launchpad account. A pop-up came up and so
no additional data

Is there a way to generate the report you need to a file that can be

happens when browsing the internet, nothing crazy going on that would
   be pushing the drivers performance

I can't tell you the last time it worked, because I kept getting
segfaults on older card, thought it was the card. bought new card and
did fresh install, same issue(yes if X were working I could have saved
   a video card purchase)

no way to take a screenshot, and even if I did, it would just be a
black screen, because thats what happens.
segfault black screen no terminals at all
   no ctrl+alt+F2 terminals access, etc
I have to magic sysreq the system down with REISUB and that causes data
 loss

   please fix this

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1463209] [NEW] Ubuntu 14.04 fails to resume afer suspend

2015-06-08 Thread Rohan Henry
Public bug reported:

Since installing Ubuntu 14.04 in December 2014, I have always placed my Lenovo
laptop in Suspend mode for days without shutting down and have been able to
open resume to the login screen without an issue. The past 2 days I have tried
to resume from Suspend and just end up with no video on my screen. The lights
on the laptop show that it is no longer in Suspend mode, but the screen appears
as if the laptop is off. I do a hard restart/reboot and when I log in I am
presented with a Report Bug option (I have reported the 2 times this occurred).
The error is ExecutablePath: /usr/share/apport/apportcheckresume
Failure: suspend/resume

I have apport 2.14.1 I am unsure what is causing this now and how to
repair.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1220652] [NEW] [xmir] Input devices unusable if booting with two monitors attached

2015-06-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Steps:

1. Have both laptop's internal screen on and external screen attached during
bootup
2. Try to login

Keyboard and mouse do not work if external monitor is connected during
the bootup. A workaround is to detach the monitor before turning on the
computer, and only attaching it after logging in.

Switching to VT1 when running Mir has keyboard working. When typing in
VT1, it gets written in lightdm as well.

This didn't happen when Mir had the default mirroring mode, but started
happening when the multi-monitor support landed.

2015-06-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Using XMir, the mouse pointer visually lags behind my movements,
slightly.

It's been observed that using the upcoming bypass branch helps this a
lot. But the proper fix will come later when XMir can use Mir's hardware
cursor.

Prerequisite fix: bug 1204505

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1216564] [NEW] xmir displayPort will funk-ily mirror even tho 2nd display has been turned off in settings

2015-06-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

was running multimonitor in mirror mode. selected the 2nd screen (not the
builtin) and turned off. after a moment or 2...the 2nd monitor begins to
display a mirror but non-scaled, with the original ui behind it
this was reliably reproduceable.

strangely, the shadowed ui on the 2nd display updates/renders...always
in the same waywith the mouse hovering over the apply button of
the settings appbut seems active. on every mouse move or keystroke,
the mouse appears to click the apply button

Attached a picture to help explain

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1420573] [NEW] [enhancement] Missing client function for surface resizing

2015-06-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Missing client API for client-initiated interactive resizing (eg: drag
on the client-drawn resize handles)

Actually there are two types of client initiated resizing we need to
support:

(a) Client specifies new width and height (e.g. video player loaded new file or
System Settings switched panel).
(b) Edge resizing for client-drawn decorations (which is closely related to bug
1420334).

(a) Would be something like:
   mir_surface_resize(surface, width, height);

(b) Could be something like:
   mir_surface_move_resize(surface, delta_top, delta_bottom, delta_left,
delta_right);
which would solve bug 1420334 also, as you can then say:

void mir_surface_move_by(MirSurface *s, int dx, int dy)
{
mir_surface_move_resize(s, dy, dy, dx, dx);
}

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1217271] [NEW] XMir freezes if using more than one monitor and any other Mir clients are running in unity-system-compositor

2015-06-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

XMir freezes if any other Mir clients are running in unity-system-
compositor while multiple monitors are connected.

This is quite strange, because I can run multiple mir_demo_client_* apps
simultaneously in unity-system-compositor. However while any of them are
running, XMir appears frozen.

The bug does not happen if XMir only has a single monitor connected. In
that case X keeps running behind the native Mir clients.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1194384] [NEW] Mir client callbacks are not thread-safe

2015-06-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Mir clients may not be aware, but the callbacks made by libmirclient are
not thread safe in any way.

An apparently simple single-threaded Mir client has 3 threads, which can
execute concurrently:

1. The main thread, where the initial connection was made.
2. The socket thread, where the protocol is handled (mir_connected_callback,
mir_surface_callback, MirSurfaceEvent)
3. The input thread, where input events are received (MirMotionEvent,
MirKeyEvent)

Yes, you could receive a MirSurfaceEvent and MirMotionEvent
simultaneously in different threads. Neither of which are the main
thread.

This is how a Mir client works. Unfortunately the existence of these
threads is not yet documented. I will update the docs. But this bug is
really about finding a way to make the client API more thread safe for
simple toolkits and clients that normally don't care about threads.
UPDATE: Client API docs improved in r789.

To make matters worse, the client API functions are generally not thread
safe either: mir_surface_* mir_connection_*. So libmirclient forces you
to run in multiple threads and yet doesn't protect you at all against
races and corruption that could arise from calling libmirclient from
varying threads. UPDATE: Fixed in r827

** Affects: mir
 Importance: High
 Status: Triaged

** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Wishlist
 Status: Confirmed

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1246872] [NEW] XQueryBestCursor behaviour difference between XMir and X

2015-06-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Testing on Ubuntnu 14.04 with Mir enabled.

The following call to XQueryBestCursor returns a width and height of 0.

XQueryBestCursor(dis, d, 32, 32, width_return, height_return);

Whereas when not using Mir it returns a width and height of 32.

I've attached a simple X11 application that shows the difference. (or it
can be seen here
https://bitbucket.org/hindlemail/x11testapplication/src/adaba4419fcaec3e9031223b43f0e62f6593a578/main.c?at=default)

This difference prevents all mono winforms applications from running.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1462994] Re: 2:1.17.1-0ubuntu4 broke xmir ABI

2015-06-08 Thread Robert Ancell
Since it's unlikely any other driver relied on this there's no point
patching Xorg to have this variable for ABI compatibility.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1462994] Re: 2:1.17.1-0ubuntu4 broke xmir ABI

2015-06-08 Thread Robert Ancell
The old XMir required the drivers to detect they were in XMir by
checking for a global variable xorgMir. Since we dropped the old XMir
we don't need these driver changes for the new glamor based
implementation.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1238886] [NEW] [xmir] Screen flickers black during video playback on Intel graphics in dual screen mode (DPMS mode changes constantly)

2015-06-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I am running unity system compositor on my desktop in dual screen mode
with Intel HD 2500 graphics.

When I play video, even when it's halted and the media player window
(vlc and smplayer) is on another work place, the screen flickers black.

I was able to find the following messages in /var/log/Xorg.0.log:
[ 8967.357] (II) Setting DPMS mode for output 1 to 0
[ 8967.884] (II) Setting DPMS mode for output 3 to 0
[ 8972.730] (II) Setting DPMS mode for output 1 to 0

Watching the file with tail -f gives one or two new lines of these
messages after each flicker.

I experience this only on my desktop in dual screen mode, not on my
laptop that also uses Intel graphics (HD 4000) and is currently running
saucy.

Totem and mplayer run from terminal are not affected.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Up until last week most of my steam catalogue was running well under

and does so dramatically as if going from full brightness to full dim.
I can find no errors in the logs.

grep -i xmir /var/log/Xorg.0.log
[ 22424.891] (II) xmir will be loaded by default.
